A commanding display from start to finish saw Youghal finish comfortable winners over Castlelyons to take the East Cork Oil Junior B Hurling Championship title on Wednesday night.
A James O’Mahony brace inside the first 15 minutes gave Youghal a 2-4 to 0-3 lead early on. They had stretched further clear with O’Mahony in fine form while Finn Coleman and Devon O’Donoghue also raised white flags.
Scores from Brian O’Donovan and Robbie Feeney helped Castlelyons back into the game shortly before the interval, and they reduced arrears to four points at the break, and would head into the second period with the support of the breeze.
However, Youghal picked up where they left off, scoring the first three points of the half, and while Castlelyons fashioned one white flag in reply, Brian Lynch broke through to find the net and fire Youghal 3-12 to 0-12 ahead after 46 minutes.
With the contest well and truly settled Seán Smiddy blasted home their fourth major on 58 minutes, leaving no doubt around the outcome. Brian Lynch and Brett Moloney added further scores, leaving the margin at 15 by the finish, securing a first Junior B title for the club since 2014.
