UNDER 14 HURLERS FINISH IN STYLE
Bride Rovers 4-7 | Erin's Own 1-11
Friday, 30th October 2026 |in Pynes
Rovers brought the curtain down on a hugely successful Under14 Division 4 hurling campaign with a hard-fought five-point victory over Erin's Own in the Shield Final on Friday evening. Played under lights in Pynes, it was an entertaining and closely contested game, with Rovers producing some excellent goals and showing great determination to finish the season with silverware.
Erin's Own made the brighter start, registering two points inside the opening seven minutes. Rovers settled into the game when Oisín Dorgan opened their account with a fine long-range free after nine minutes, before Cian Barry followed up with another free to bring the sides level at two points apiece.
From there, the game developed into a real battle, with both teams exchanging scores. Erin's Own edged ahead again through a free before Cian responded with another placed ball to level matters.
The first big turning point arrived midway through the opening half when Rovers struck for two excellent goals in the space of five minutes.
The first came from Liam Harrington, who collected possession some 45 metres from goal before setting off on a brilliant solo run through the Erin's Own defence. Having worked his way into a shooting position, Liam finished superbly into the bottom corner to give Rovers a three-point advantage.
Rovers continued to press, with Ryan Hogan also getting on the scoresheet from a very tight angle, before the second goal arrived following some excellent vision from Jack Gubbins. Spotting Cian Barry in space across the goal, Jack picked him out with a clever delivery. Cian gathered possession and made no mistake, firing to the net to put Rovers firmly in the driving seat.
To their credit, Erin's Own refused to let the game get away from them. They enjoyed a strong spell approaching half-time, adding a number of points before striking for a goal of their own. By the interval, the sides were level at Bride Rovers 2-4, Erin's Own 1-7, leaving everything to play for.
The second half began with both teams giving absolutely everything. Scores were at a premium, with neither side managing to register for the opening eleven minutes. Much of the play was concentrated between the two 45-metre lines as both sets of players worked tirelessly to gain the upper hand.
Erin's Own eventually broke the deadlock to edge a point ahead, but Rovers responded through another Cian Barry free.
As the half progressed, Erin's Own continued to pick off scores, mainly through placed balls, and with seven minutes remaining, Rovers found themselves two points behind.
What followed was a remarkable few minutes that would ultimately decide the destination of the Shield.
First, Cian Barry stepped up to take a long-range free. His delivery travelled all the way to the net, turning a two-point deficit into a one-point lead and giving Rovers a huge lift.
Moments later, Daniel Fitzgerald produced another decisive moment. As the ball dropped into the Erin's Own square, Daniel reacted quickest, pulling first time on the sliotar and sending it to the net. Suddenly, Rovers had opened up a four-point advantage.
A final score came from Cian Barry, all the way out on the right, almost over his shoulder, as the clock ticked towards full-time.
With the game drawing to a close, Rovers emptied the bench, ensuring that all members of the panel who had contributed to such a successful Division 4 campaign got their opportunity to take to the field. When the final whistle sounded, Rovers had secured a deserved 4-7 to 1-11 victory, sparking great celebrations among players, coaches and supporters. Joint captains Jack Barry and Seán O'Dowd had the honour of collecting the Shield, a fitting reward for a group of players who have given so much throughout the year.
While the goals will understandably grab the headlines, this was very much a team performance. Every player contributed, whether through scores, tackles, hooks, blocks, clearances or simply working hard for the player alongside them.
The victory was a particularly satisfying way to finish the season for a group that has shown tremendous commitment and improvement throughout the year.
And perhaps one of the nicest parts of the evening came after the final whistle. Long after the presentation had finished, families and players remained around the pitch under the lights. There were photographs with the Shield, parents and grandparents celebrating with the lads, and plenty of sliotars still being pucked around on the pitch. It was then onto Rathcormac and Bartlemy for the traditional "beeping" to let the parish know of another piece of silverware for the club.
A lovely way to finish the year. Well done to all the lads!

Saturday Oct 31st | Under14 Munster Super 10 Hurling Finals | U.L.
On Saturday, the Rovers U14 hurlers travelled to the University of Limerick to compete in the Munster Super 10s Finals. Drawn in a group with Moycarkey-Borris (Tipperary) and Abbeydorney (Kerry), the lads dropped their opening game by eight points to a sharp Moycarkey side that had already played a game under their belt. Despite not playing at their best, Rovers stayed competitive for long stretches and kept battling right to the end. The squad bounced back brilliantly in their second match with a convincing win over Abbeydorney, before wrapping up the trip with another strong victory in a friendly against Waterford's Ballyduff. Overall, it was a great experience for the team and a valuable opportunity to test themselves against new opposition.
Panel: Oisín Dorgan, Cameron Hoare, Darragh Feeney, Denis Skillington, Tommy Conway, Conor Healy, Alex McCarthy, Tiarnán Lyons, Adam Hackett, Matthew Finn, Eoghan Croke and Dara Murphy
SCIATH NA SCOIL FINALS. Bishop O Brien NS Bartlemy took part in the Sciath na Scoil Final in Pairc Ui Chaoimh in brilliant sunshine last Monday. They came up against a very strong Rusheen side who were the winners. It was disappointing to lose but a great honour and thrill for the girls and boys to play in the Park. Best of luck to Scoil Bhride Rathcormac who play Kilcredan in their Final on next Monday November the 9th.
EAST CORK U21 FOOTBALL. The semi-final of the East Cork C Football Championship was played in Castlelyons on Sunday morning. There was a slight breeze that favoured the host club in the first half, and they opened the scoring with two points. Cormac O’Sullivan replied with a two-pointer, which was kicked in from distance before bouncing over the bar. Castlelyons used the breeze to score four two-pointers, three of which were long-range frees from their goalkeeper. Bride Rovers responded with some good play to bring the ball up the field, resulting in points from Shane O’Dowd and Kieran Cotter, and a well taken goal by Conor O’Riordan. A Castlelyons counterattack resulted in a goal, which they followed up with a point. Bride Rovers rallied well and finished the first half with a fisted goal from Kieran Cotter, leaving the half-time score 2.4 to 1.11.
The second half started unfortunately for us, as we lost a player within a minute to a second yellow card. Even with the aid of the breeze, this made it a difficult task, but the players responded well. There were four goals in the second half, two for each side. Bride Rovers had some good passages of play and also used the breeze to launch some long-distance attacks. Cillian Barry scored a fine two-pointer, and both Shane O’Dowd and Micheál Walsh scored from the penalty spot. Overall, it was a spirited performance, but we went down on the scoreline of 4.9 to 3.16.
Both Luke Harrington and Cillian O’Sullivan had to come off with injuries, and we wish both of them well in their recovery.
Team: Jack Lynch, Ronan Barry, Cillian O’Sullivan, Sean Dowling, Adam Hayes (C), Luke Harrington, Cormac O’Sullivan (0.2), Gearóid O’Connell, Conor O’Riordan (1.0), Ryan O’Callaghan, Kieran Cotter (1.1), Shane O’Dowd (0.3), Cillian Barry (0.2), Denis Cashman, Micheál Walsh (1.0), Ciarán O’Dowd, Louie Roche, Garry Quirke (0.1).

CIARA MAGEEAN. We were all shocked and saddened last weekend when the death of Ciara Mageaan was announced -just a few weeks after her wedding. Just two years ago Ciara’s name was known world wide after her great 1500m win in the European Athletic Championship. Ciara was a great camogie player in her teenage years with her club Portaferry. After coming from behind in one big race to win Ciara was asked how she did it having been ‘boxed in’ by several other runners. She replied that when playing camogie with Portaferry she learned how to get out of tight corners!. Deepest sympathy to her husband and her family. Ciara was truly an inspirational figure.
