Glenville U16 Footballers Through to League Final After Hard-Fought Win
U16 (2) Football League Semi-Final
Glenville 4-07 Erin's Own 2-10
Four goals, a superb hat-trick and a battling team performance saw Glenville's U16 footballers secure their place in the League Final following an entertaining three-point victory over a determined Erin's Own side on Tuesday evening last.
In lovely conditions at Glenville, the home supporters were treated to a cracking contest packed with goals, excellent scores, end-to-end football and plenty of late drama. Despite a flying start from the visitors, Glenville showed tremendous character to turn the game around, with James O'Mahony's impressive hat-trick helping the lads secure a hard-earned and well-deserved place in the League Final against Bandon.
Erin's Own were quickest out of the blocks, registering a number of early scores to establish a useful lead. However, Glenville gradually settled into the contest and responded in impressive fashion, striking for three excellent first-half goals.
Donogh McHugh got Glenville's first goal following a superb run, finishing brilliantly into the top corner of the net. James O'Mahony then took centre stage, finishing two well-worked team moves with great composure to turn the game in Glenville's favour.
Alex Downey added one of the scores of the evening with a tremendous long-range point just before the interval, leaving Glenville ahead by 3-01 to 1-05 at half-time.
The second half continued in much the same fashion, with little separating two evenly matched sides and both teams producing some excellent football.
Midway through the half, James O'Mahony completed a superb hat-trick of goals. Another powerful long-range effort from Alex Downey struck the post, but O'Mahony was quickest to react, showing great poacher's instincts to bury the rebound and give Glenville some valuable breathing space.
Erin's Own were far from finished, however, and responded with another goal to keep the contest very much alive. The closing ten minutes were a frantic affair, with both sides battling fiercely for a place in the League Final.
Glenville showed tremendous determination and composure in the closing stages, producing some excellent passages of football and well-worked points through Donogh McHugh, James O'Mahony, Alan Smith, Andrew Welch and Diarmuid Dara.
The lads continued to work hard for one another right to the final whistle, eventually securing a deserved three-point victory on a scoreline of 4-07 to 2-10.
It was a terrific all-round team performance, with some outstanding attacking football, excellent interplay and great determination throughout the field. The lads showed plenty of character, particularly when Erin's Own threatened to get back into the contest, and their ability to respond with important scores proved crucial.
Congratulations to all the players and management on a fantastic victory. The lads can now look forward to a League Final meeting with Bandon, where they will be hoping to finish an excellent campaign on a high.
Thanks to Erin's Own for a very sporting and competitive encounter, and to the referee and everyone who came along to support the team.

A Fantastic Year Comes to an End for Glenville U7s
Glenville's U7 hurlers and footballers brought the curtain down on a fantastic season on Saturday last, October 17, with a thoroughly enjoyable final blitz against Ballymartle in Watergrasshill.
The boys enjoyed a busy morning of action, playing two hurling matches and two football matches, with plenty of competitive football and hurling, excellent skills, great teamwork and determination on display.
It was a fitting way to finish what has been a brilliant year for this enthusiastic group of young players. Their improvement throughout the season has been fantastic to see, with the boys developing their skills, growing in confidence and, most importantly, enjoying their hurling and football.
Following the blitz, the players, coaches and families gathered in The Hut Bar for an end-of-year celebration, where the boys enjoyed some food and a presentation to mark their efforts and achievements throughout the season.
A special word of thanks to Betty and John at The Hut Bar for their wonderful hospitality and for generously providing the food, helping to make the occasion so enjoyable for everyone.
Thanks also to Ballymartle for taking part in the blitz and providing excellent opposition for the boys in their final outing of the year.
Great credit must go to the U7 coaches and parents for their tremendous commitment, encouragement and support throughout the season. Their dedication has played a huge part in making the year such a positive and enjoyable experience for all the players.
Finally, congratulations to every one of our U7 boys on a fantastic year. They have made tremendous progress, shown great enthusiasm and provided plenty of memorable moments along the way.
The future of Glenville and Watergrasshill GAA certainly looks bright, and we look forward to seeing these young stars continue their development next season.

Dads & Lads Going Strong in Glenville
Glenville's Dads & Lads football continues to go from strength to strength, with another fantastic turnout on Sunday night as the lads gathered for an enjoyable hour of football on the club's astro pitch.
Following a great response to the return of the sessions last week, the numbers were excellent once again, with plenty of football, good-natured competition, a few laughs and no shortage of enthusiasm on display.
The sessions are all about getting out, enjoying a bit of exercise, meeting people and having some fun, with the footballing ability very much secondary. Whether you played football years ago, haven't kicked a ball in decades or have never played before, everyone is more than welcome.
Dads & Lads takes place every Sunday evening from 8pm to 9pm on the Glenville GAA astro pitch. New faces are always welcome, and there's no pressure or commitment involved. Just come along, enjoy the football and the bit of craic.
It's great to see such strong numbers and a fantastic atmosphere around the sessions. Long may it continue!

The Countdown Is On to the Great Glenville Run 2026!
With just over four weeks to go, the countdown is well and truly on to the Great Glenville Run 2026, and preparations are gathering pace for what promises to be another fantastic morning of running in Glenville on Sunday, November 22, at 11.30am.
Runners are clocking up the training miles, entries are coming in and excitement is building as Glenville GAA and Watergrasshill AC prepare to welcome participants from across Cork and further afield for this popular four-mile road race.
The event sold out last year, and with no entries available on race day, anyone hoping to take part is strongly encouraged to register early to avoid disappointment.
For anyone who has been thinking about taking part but hasn't quite made up their mind, now is the time to get involved. Whether you're a regular runner chasing a personal best, someone returning to running after a break or taking on your very first road race, the Great Glenville Run offers a challenge worth aiming for.
With race day now firmly on the horizon, the next few weeks are a great opportunity to get some miles into the legs, build confidence and prepare for the big day. You don't have to be the fastest runner on the road to enjoy the occasion. Taking part, challenging yourself and crossing that finish line are achievements worth celebrating.
The Great Glenville Run has built a reputation as an enjoyable and well-organised event, combining competitive road racing with a fantastic community atmosphere. The course is accurately measured by Jones Counter, the race is chip-timed and an AAI permit has been granted. Individual and category prizes will also be on offer.
Of course, anyone who has taken part in previous years will know that the Great Glenville Run is about much more than the race itself. The encouragement along the route, the friendly atmosphere and the welcome awaiting runners at the finish all help make it such a special occasion.
And no mention of the Great Glenville Run would be complete without the famous post-race refreshments! The fantastic selection of homemade cakes, along with tea, coffee and plenty of other refreshments, has become one of the highlights of the event. After four miles on the roads around Glenville, there's certainly no better way to reward yourself!
A huge amount of work is already taking place behind the scenes, with volunteers from Glenville GAA, Watergrasshill AC and the wider community preparing to make this year's event another success. Their commitment and enthusiasm are what make occasions like this possible.
Entries are now open through Eventmaster, with registration costing €17.50. There will be no entries taken on the day.
With last year's event selling out, runners are reminded not to leave registration until the last minute. Why not encourage a friend, family member or training partner to join you? Having someone to train with and share the experience can make the occasion even more enjoyable.
Whether you're hoping for a fast time, aiming to complete the four miles or simply looking forward to being part of a great local event, we'd love to see you on the starting line.
Sunday, November 22, at 11.30am — the Great Glenville Run 2026. Four miles, a great atmosphere and plenty of cake waiting at the finish!
