U14 Division 4 League Champions

Glenville’s U14 footballers were crowned Division 4 League champions on Sunday evening following an impressive victory over Kilworth.

Despite the wet and difficult conditions, the Glenville lads produced an excellent team performance, displaying great determination, skill and teamwork throughout the contest to secure a well-deserved victory and round off their league campaign in style.

The victory was a fitting reward for the hard work and commitment shown by the players and coaches throughout the season.

Congratulations to all the players and their coaches on a fantastic achievement. Thanks also to the parents and supporters who braved the rain to cheer on the team, to Kilworth for the game and to the referee for officiating.

A fantastic achievement for this talented group of young footballers, who have done themselves, their families and Glenville GAA proud. The future is certainly bright for Glenville football with young players like these coming through the ranks.

Division 4 League Champions — a title richly deserved and memories to last a lifetime! Enjoy every minute of the celebrations, lads. You've earned it!

U18 Footballers Battle Hard in League Final

U18 Division 4 League Phase 2 Final

St. Finbarr's 3-12 Glenville 1-12

Glenville's U18 footballers put in a battling performance against St. Finbarr's in the Division 4 League Phase 2 Final in Togher on Saturday, October 10, but ultimately came up short against a strong home side.

The opening eight minutes saw Glenville go toe to toe with their opponents, with both sides competing fiercely. However, a decisive two-minute spell saw St. Finbarr's register 2-02, opening up a lead that would ultimately prove the difference between the teams.

To their credit, the Glenville lads responded superbly, tightening up defensively and holding the home side scoreless for the next 15 minutes. During this period, Glenville produced some excellent attacking football, kicking five well-worked points to bring themselves right back into contention.

St. Finbarr's managed to add a few more scores before the interval, leaving Glenville trailing by six points at half-time.

The second half was a much more evenly contested affair, with every kick-out fiercely fought and possession at a premium. Glenville continued to battle for every ball, working hard for their scores and producing some excellent passages of team play.

The highlight of the second half was a superb team goal, reflecting the determination and teamwork shown by the Glenville players throughout the contest. Despite their best efforts, St. Finbarr's managed to maintain their advantage and secured victory on a final scoreline of 3-12 to 1-12.

While the result was disappointing, there were plenty of positives for Glenville to take from the performance. The game provided valuable experience for next year's Minor players, who were ably assisted by members of the U16 and U15 panels.

Great credit is due to all the players for their commitment, determination and willingness to battle right to the final whistle. Thanks also to the coaches and mentors for their work with the team, to the parents and supporters for their continued encouragement, and to the referee for officiating the final.

Although the league title proved just out of reach, the effort, teamwork and character shown by this young group provide plenty of encouragement for the future. Well done to everyone involved, and congratulations to St. Finbarr's on their victory.

U7 Footballers Shine at Páirc Uí Chaoimh

Glenville's U7 footballers enjoyed another fantastic evening at Páirc Uí Chaoimh, making their third visit to the famous stadium in just one week.

This time it was football, as the young Glenville lads took part in an excellent blitz under the lights, with the chilly conditions doing little to dampen their enthusiasm.

The standard of football on display was superb, with all the boys producing excellent performances throughout the evening. There was some fantastic skill on the ball, great scoring and, most importantly, outstanding teamwork.

It has been wonderful to see the progress made by this group over the past year. Their skills, confidence and understanding of the game have developed enormously, and they are growing into a very promising young team.

A huge well done to every one of the players, who can all be extremely proud of their efforts. With such enthusiasm, talent and teamwork already on display at this young age, the future of Glenville football is certainly in good hands.

A special word of thanks to our fantastic coaches, whose time, patience and encouragement make evenings like this possible, and to all the parents and families who continue to support the boys every step of the way. Your dedication and enthusiasm play such an important part in making these experiences so enjoyable and memorable for our young players.

Most importantly, well done to every one of the lads for representing Glenville with such pride, enthusiasm and great team spirit. Seeing the smiles on their faces and the friendships being built is what underage Gaelic games are all about.

Great memories for a brilliant group of young footballers, and plenty more exciting days ahead in the Glenville jersey!

Dads & Lads Make a Welcome Return

Glenville GAA's Dads & Lads football returned on Sunday evening following the summer break, with a fantastic turnout for the first session back.

There was plenty of football, lots of laughs and a few tired legs as the lads enjoyed a great evening in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

A special welcome goes to Adam, who played his very first game of Gaelic football on the night. It was great to see him getting involved, and hopefully it will be the first of many appearances.

The Dads & Lads initiative is all about providing an opportunity for men of all ages and abilities to enjoy Gaelic football in a fun, welcoming and social environment. Whether returning to the game after many years or trying it for the very first time, everyone is welcome.

Sessions continue every Sunday evening from 8pm to 9pm on the Glenville GAA Astro, and new participants are always encouraged to come along. No previous playing experience is necessary.

Anyone interested in joining can contact John on 085-7102290 for further information.

It was fantastic to see such a great turnout for the return of Dads & Lads, and we look forward to welcoming even more new faces over the coming weeks.

The Great Glenville Run – Will You Be on the Starting Line?

The excitement is building in Glenville as preparations continue for the Great Glenville Run 2026, which takes place on Sunday, November 22, at 11.30am.

With just under six weeks to go, now is the perfect time to set yourself a challenge, get the running shoes on and start preparing for what promises to be another fantastic morning of running and community spirit.

Organised jointly by Glenville GAA and Watergrasshill AC, the Great Glenville Run has become a firm favourite on the local sporting calendar, attracting runners from across Cork and beyond. Each year brings a wonderful mix of experienced athletes, recreational runners and those taking on the four-mile distance for the very first time.

One of the great things about the event is that you don't have to be a seasoned runner to take part. Whether you're hoping to improve on last year's time, working towards your first road race or simply looking for a reason to get active, there's a place for everyone on the starting line.

For anyone considering taking part, the coming weeks provide a great opportunity to build up the training gradually. Four miles is an achievable and rewarding challenge, and having a race to look forward to can provide that extra bit of motivation to get out and put in the miles.

The race itself promises plenty of competition, with individual and category prizes on offer. The course is accurately measured by Jones Counter, the event is chip-timed and an AAI permit has been granted, ensuring a professionally organised race for everyone taking part.

Of course, the Great Glenville Run is about much more than finishing times and personal bests. The atmosphere around the village, the encouragement from supporters along the route and the warm welcome awaiting runners afterwards are all part of what makes the event so special.

And then there are the cakes! The famous post-race hospitality has become something of a tradition, with a fantastic selection of homemade cakes, tea, coffee and refreshments waiting for participants after they cross the finish line. For some runners, that alone might be enough motivation to tackle the four miles!

Behind the scenes, a huge amount of work goes into making the event possible, with volunteers from Glenville GAA, Watergrasshill AC and the wider community coming together to ensure everything runs smoothly. Their efforts help make the Great Glenville Run a real celebration of local sport and community involvement.

Entries are now open through Eventmaster, with registration costing €17.50.

So whether you're chasing a personal best, taking on a new challenge or simply looking forward to a great morning out, we'd love to see you in Glenville on Sunday, November 22.

There's still time to get those training miles in, so don't leave it too late. Get your entry in, encourage a friend to join you and make the Great Glenville Run 2026 a date in your diary.

We look forward to welcoming everyone to Glenville for another memorable race day!
