U13 TEAM 2 FOOTBALL LEAGUE SHIELD FINAL
Glenville 5-8
Bandon 4-10
Glenville U13 Team 2 enjoyed a fantastic Shield Final victory in Glenville on Friday evening, overcoming a strong Bandon side in a dramatic contest that went right to the final moments of extra-time.
A heavy shower before the match made conditions difficult, but the Glenville lads settled well and produced some excellent football to lead by three points at half-time. Glenville started the second half brightly and built up a commanding advantage, but Bandon responded strongly and a burst of late goals brought them level at the death, sending a thrilling final to extra-time.
Extra-time ebbed and flowed, and when the game looked to be slipping away, Glenville dug deep once again. A late surge left the lads two points behind as the match entered injury time, with time remaining for one final attack.
That last push brought the ball into the Bandon square, where Glenville were awarded a penalty. Up stepped Dylan, who showed tremendous composure to calmly slot the penalty home and secure a memorable one-point victory, sparking huge celebrations among the players, coaches and supporters.
Following a tremendous final, captain Danielius proudly lifted the Shield to cap a fantastic performance from the entire team. Huge credit goes to every player for their teamwork, determination and never-say-die spirit, and to the coaches for all their work with the group throughout the season.
Thanks to Bandon for a hugely exciting and sporting final, to the referee for officiating a tremendous contest and to all the parents and supporters who got behind the lads throughout the game.
Little did they know that the celebrations would continue less than 24 hours later, when Glenville’s U13 Team 1 faced St Michael’s with an opportunity to complete a memorable Shield double for the squad.
U13 1C FOOTBALL LEAGUE SHIELD FINAL
Glenville 3-13
St Michael’s 4-9
Following the Team 2 U13 Shield Final victory the previous evening in testing conditions, the Glenville lads regrouped to take to the field in the sun-drenched surroundings of St Michael’s on Saturday afternoon, looking to complete a remarkable Shield double for the squad.
Winning the toss and opting to play with a light breeze at their backs, Glenville suffered an early setback as St Michael’s struck for 1-1 inside the opening three minutes. The lads responded brilliantly, quickly settling into the game and beginning to establish a foothold around midfield. With quality ball moving forward, the Glenville forwards soon found their rhythm.
Glenville went on to dominate much of the remainder of the first half, producing a series of excellent scores. The highlight came from Ronan O’Connell, who showed superb skill with a brilliant soccer-style chip over the advancing St Michael’s goalkeeper. By half-time, Glenville had turned that early deficit into a seven-point advantage, leading by 3-7 to 2-3.
St Michael’s came roaring back after the restart, picking off two fine points before striking for two quickfire goals. By the 50th minute, the sides were level and a thrilling finish was in store.
The closing stages were a real battle of nerves, with both teams trading scores as the game hung in the balance. Glenville managed to find the vital extra point to edge ahead before St Michael’s threw everything forward in search of an equaliser. They came agonisingly close, striking the post from a tight angle, but the Glenville lads showed tremendous determination and defended superbly under intense late pressure.
The final whistle was greeted by huge celebrations as Glenville held on for a dramatic 3-13 to 4-9 victory. Captain Finnán Lawlor had the honour of lifting the Shield, surrounded by his delighted teammates, coaches and supporters.
It capped a fantastic 24 hours for Glenville’s U13s, with both teams winning their respective Shield finals. It was a brilliant achievement for the entire squad and a wonderful reward for all the work put in by the players and coaches throughout the year.
Congratulations to every player involved across the two teams on a weekend to remember. A huge thank-you also goes to the coaches, parents and supporters for everything they have done for the group throughout the season. Thanks to St Michael’s for a tremendous and sporting final and to the referee for officiating an exciting and closely contested match.
U15 PREMIER 2 FOOTBALL LEAGUE SEMI-FINAL
Glenville 2-8
St Nicholas 3-12
Glenville’s U15 footballers hosted St Nicholas in the Premier 2 Football League semi-final in Glenville, with both sides serving up an exciting and fast-paced game of football.
An action-packed opening half produced five goals. St Nicholas made the stronger start and built up a significant advantage, with Glenville going into the half-time break trailing by 3-8 to 2-1.
The Glenville lads produced a much-improved performance after the restart. They made better use of possession, were more patient with the ball and defended strongly as a unit. Their determination and work rate were rewarded on the scoreboard as they outscored St Nicholas during the second half and continued to battle right to the final whistle.
Ultimately, the first-half deficit proved too much to overcome, with St Nicholas progressing on a final score of 3-12 to 2-8.
Despite the result, there was plenty for the lads to take from the performance, particularly the fight, commitment and improved second-half display. A competitive game such as this will stand the team in good stead as attention now turns to the upcoming championship.
Thanks to St Nicholas for a sporting game, to the referee for officiating, to our coaches for their continued work with the team and to all the parents and supporters for their encouragement.
UPCOMING FIXTURES
There are three big juvenile football finals to look forward to over the coming week as the season reaches an exciting stage for Glenville.

It promises to be another exciting week for our juvenile teams. Reaching three finals is a tremendous achievement for the players and coaches involved.
We wish all three Glenville teams and their management the very best of luck. As always, we encourage as many supporters as possible to get behind the lads in their respective finals.
DADS & LADS RETURNS
After a well-earned summer break, Glenville GAA’s Dads & Lads is back this Sunday, October 11th, from 8pm to 9pm on the Glenville GAA Astro.
The boots may have gathered a little dust over the summer, but we are looking forward to getting everyone back together for another season of football, exercise and, most importantly, plenty of craic.
Dads & Lads is part of the GAA’s Social Gaelic Games initiative and is aimed at anyone who would like to play football in a relaxed and enjoyable environment. Whether you played for years and have been away from the game for a while, played a little in the past or have never kicked a Gaelic football before, you will be very welcome.
It is also a great opportunity for anyone who has recently moved to Glenville or the surrounding parish to get to know people and become involved in the local community. You do not need to have any previous connection with Glenville GAA, as coming along to Dads & Lads can be a great first introduction to the club.
The emphasis is firmly on the social side. There are no trials, no pressure and no expectations regarding fitness or ability. Nobody needs to worry about whether the legs are as quick as they once were. It is simply a chance to get out for an hour, enjoy some exercise, play football and have a laugh with a good group.
The group has been a great way for people to reconnect with Gaelic football and the club, while also giving those who may never have played the game before an opportunity to give it a try in a friendly setting.
We are always delighted to welcome new faces. If you have been thinking about getting back playing, are new to the area or simply fancy trying something different, come along, dust off the boots and give it a go.
For more information or to join the group, contact John on 085 710 2290.
GET READY FOR THE GREAT GLENVILLE RUN
The countdown is on. The Great Glenville Run is fast approaching, and on Sunday, November 22nd, at 11.30am, runners will once again take to the roads around Glenville for one of the highlights of the local sporting calendar.
The runners are starting to clock up the miles, preparations are gathering pace and entries are already coming in as Glenville GAA and Watergrasshill AC prepare to welcome runners from across Cork and further afield for the 2026 event.
The popular four-mile road race has something for everyone. Whether you are a regular road racer chasing a personal best, getting back into running after a break or simply looking for a challenge to aim towards over the coming weeks, the Great Glenville Run welcomes runners of all abilities.
With the race now just a number of weeks away, there is still plenty of time to dust off the runners, get a few training miles into the legs and join us on the starting line.
The course is accurately measured by Jones Counter, the race will be chip-timed and an AAI permit has been granted. There will also be individual and category prizes on the day, with entry costing €17.50.
Of course, anyone who has taken part before will know that crossing the finish line is not quite the end of the Great Glenville Run experience. The post-race hospitality has become a big part of the occasion, with tea, coffee, refreshments and the famous selection of homemade cakes awaiting runners afterwards.
The event is always a great community occasion, bringing together Glenville GAA, Watergrasshill AC, local volunteers, supporters and runners for what is traditionally a brilliant morning in the village.
Set yourself the challenge, get the training underway and make sure you are on the starting line for the Great Glenville Run on Sunday, November 22nd, at 11.30am.
Entries are now open through Eventmaster and are priced at €17.50.
