INCH BY INCH, TO THE TOP OF THE HILL!
LGFA County Intermediate Final
Saturday October 3rd in MTU Inch Rovers 2-17, Bride Rovers 2-07
Top billing this week, despite tremendous excitement at both minor and junior hurling, a comprehensive victory at junior football, and great successes at juvenile level, must surely go to the brave, talented and fantastic females of Inch Rovers who brought home the County Intermediate title to the parish with a scintillating performance against Bride Rovers on Saturday afternoon in MTU GAA Grounds. With multiple crossovers between our adult and juvenile teams and the Inch Rovers panel, it was great to see such a large attendance from our community cheering on our sisters, cousins, wives, partners, mothers, daughters, neighbours and friends. From the 16 and 17-year-old young stars to those who won’t ever again be blowing candles representing four decades or less, these women showed everyone how to bring home the glory! With our Junior A hurlers now set to face the same Bride Rovers for the honour of lifting the Jamesy Kelleher in a few weeks’ time, and our Under 21 hurlers also set to face them imminently, let’s hope we can emulate the resilience and fortitude of the Inch Rovers heroines who put a shaky start behind them to win in convincing style! Well done to all involved – players, mentors, coaches and club stalwarts who have kept the show on the road through good times and bad! Maybe there’s another All-Ireland run to come!
Now over to the men and boys, with lots to report!
O’CONNOR MOTOR FACTORS EAST CORK JUNIOR C FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINAL Saturday September 26th in Carrigtwohill Carrigtwohill 1-14, Glenbower Rovers 0-04
Our Junior C footballers saw their season come to an end in Carrigtwohill on the last Saturday in September, when a strong Carrig side came out on top with home advantage helping their cause. We squandered a couple of early goal chances that might have given us a foothold in this game, but Carrig were better at all the fundamentals and in particular at taking the chances that came their way. Dave Ogbebor, as he has all year in both codes, battled bravely throughout, scoring two fine points in the first half, while Eoin Roche, Cathal Deane and Darragh O’Connor also did well, and Conor Meade kicked the score of the day just before the half time whistle. As has been the case since this group of players began training in early Spring, success cannot be measured purely in trophies or titles, but in the number of players involved, with 25 available for selection on the day. What a pity then that current rules only allow 5 substitutes to be used for championship, which goes against the spirit of what Junior C championship should represent. Thanks again to Colm Crowley and his team for all the great work they have done in 2026.
Team: Eoin Roche, Ian Landers, Ben Budds, Cullen Ryan Hyde, Conor Meade, Dylan Hogan, Michael O’Donovan, Kieran Lane, Cathal Deane, Padraig Leahy, Dave Ogbebor, Diarmuid Buckley, Dermot Motherway, Darragh O’Connor, Olin Hennessy, Harry Connon, Adrian Galvin, Aidan McNamee, Dan Walsh, David Collins.

Saturday September 27th in Cloyne Glenbower Rovers 6-15, Ballinacurra 0-06
Our first team made it four wins in a row in Junior B football championship with an emphatic win against Ballinacurra on Sunday 27th September in Cloyne. From start to finish, this was our most complete performance so far, with excellent performances from Matthew Murphy, Sean Walsh, Robbie Treacy, Seamie Harnedy, Paudie Mackey, Richie Long and Dara Motherway. We had 4-08 in the first half with goals from Matthew (2), Robbie and Richie, while Paudie Mackey raised our two green flags in the second half to finish with a tally of 2-03 in total. Castlelyons are our opponents in the final after they overcame Glenville on penalties in their semi-final, and this match is currently scheduled to be played on Sunday next, October 11th at 1130 hrs, venue TBC. REBEL ÓG PREMIER 2 MINOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
Monday September 28th in Páirc Uí Rinn Killeagh 1-13, St. Finbarr’s 1-13
Bhí slua mór i bPáirc Uí Rinn oíche Dé Luain seo caite agus chonaic gach éinne dhá cluichí iontacha a chríochnaigh ar chomhscór. This was a game we could have won, perhaps should have won, but our battling minors get one more chance on Wednesday evening next, October 7th, to close the deal against the Barrs in Carrigtwohill at 1930 hrs. Scores were at a premium at both ends in the first quarter, with defences on top and Eolann Deane preventing three certain points with his outstanding fielding and blocking sa chúl. Rian O’Connor, Alex Forgarty, Cathal Brennan and Andrew Brenner also stood out in the first half, while the Geary brothers took the plaudits sa dara leath, with younger brother Jay finishing to the net after a super catch, run and pass from Ben, and following it up with an exquisite point from the left sideline. The huge travelling support thought that this would be enough to see us claim the title, but the Barrs had other ideas, finishing strongly with a goal and a point in injury time to force a replay. Let’s go again!
Team: Eolann Deane, Patrick Dineen, Rian O’Connor, Alex Howey, Dillon McCarthy, Alex Fogarty, Cathal Brennan, Andrew Brenner, Billy Guerin, John Farquhar, Cormac Deane, Jack Farquhar, Cormac Delaney, Ben Geary, Jay Geary, Ruben O’Riordan, Charlie Lawton, Adam Barry, Sean O’Leary, Cathal Murphy, Eoghan Murphy, Seanan McDonnell, Liam Lynch, Oscar Power, Oisin Conlon, Tom Power, Ronan O’Riordan.
EAST CORK OIL EAST CORK JUNIOR A HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINAL
Sunday October 4th in Shanagarry Killeagh 1-20, Cobh 2-16
A game we might have lost or drawn, but actually won! How many of those have finished in our favour in recent years – not too many! Our Junior B hurlers against Youghal, and our Junior C hurlers against Ballinacurra, both fell in the last few weeks when victory seemed within our grasp, so it was deeply satisfying to eke this one out, with the last four scores turning a three-point 58th-minute deficit into a one-point 63rd-minute victory. In truth, we should never have allowed ourselves to be in that deficit position, as we tallied sixteen wides to Cobh’s seven, but our team showed great resilience to keep battling even when the shooting and perhaps the free count were not going our way. In the opening half, Cobh began strongly with the opening three points, while we had three wides before Richie Long got us off the mark with a free. Sean Walsh, outstanding once again, struck over two points, while Colm Leahy levelled matters (0-04 each) on 12 minutes with a mighty first-time pull from 40 metres out. Richie added three more frees before Cobh got the first goal of the game on 25 minutes, one that our video analysts may reflect on and wonder if this was a goal we could have prevented. Fortunately, we replied almost immediately, with Sean Meade’s delivery caught expertly by Colm Leahy, who scored a typical Colm Leahy cracker low past the Cobh cúl báire, to reduce the margin to one (1-08 to 1-07). Colm then turned provider, setting up brother Andrew for our final point of the half. We came storming out of the blocks in the second half, with four points from Matthew Murphy, Mikey Fitzgerald and a pair from Colm putting us in to a three-point lead (1-12 to 1-09). Cobh scored their only point from play in the second half on 39 minutes, (Timmy Wilk scored six frees from there to the end) but their goal on 46 minutes after Philip Yank’s initial save saw them regain the lead (2-12 to 1-13). The introduction of our minor quarter of Cormac Deane, Ben Geary, Andrew Brenner and Cathal Brennan gave our team a new impetus, with Cormac and Ben scoring from play, added to scores from Andrew Leahy and Sean Walsh, leaving us two adrift (2-15 to 1-16) on 56 minutes. At the other end of the pitch, Keane Budds, Ciaran Leahy and Robbie Treacy manned the barricades as the last line of defence. Another Wilk free on 57 minutes stretched the gap to three before the late, late show saw us finish with a flourish, with points from Richie Long, Ben Geary (free), the equaliser from Sean Walsh on 62 minutes and the winner from Richie in the game’s final play giving us a sweet victory. Two years ago, Carraig na bhFear were our final opponents when we lifted Jamesy after a replay; this year we will play Bride Rovers, who defeated Carraig after extra time in the other semi-final. Drive on boys!
Team: Philip O’Neill, Keane Budds, Robbie Treacy, Ciaran Leahy, Gary Leahy, Jack Coleman, Jack O’Rourke, Mikey Fitzgerald, John Ogbebor, Matthew Murphy, Andrew Leahy, Sean Walsh, Richie Long, Sean Meade, Colm Leahy, Cormac Deane, Ben Geary, Andrew Brenner, Cathal Brennan.
