REBEL OG Under14 4B Football Championship Final
Friday, 18 September 2026
Our U14 footballers suffered the narrowest of defeats in a cracking 4B Championship Final against Blarney, losing by a single point after a hugely entertaining contest that went right down to the wire. There was very little between the sides throughout, with both teams enjoying spells on top and the result still in the balance in the closing minutes. Cian Barry opened our account with a well-taken free in the second minute, before Blarney struck for the game's opening goal. Blarney added a point from play, but our lads responded well. Eoghan Croke kicked a fine point before Cian Barry added another from a free. The game really came to life in the closing stages of the first half. Eoghan Croke found the net to put us in front, and Cian Barry followed with another goal as we began to build momentum. However, Blarney responded with a goal of their own before the break, leaving the sides level at 2-3 apiece at half-time. Blarney started the second half strongly, kicking two early points before their number 10 struck for a goal. Suddenly, we had a five-point deficit to overcome. To the lads' credit, they refused to let the game get away from them. Cian Barry kicked a point from play before Eoghan Croke broke through the Blarney defence and played in Aidee Carr who finished to the net to bring us right back into contention.
Blarney continued to find scores, but our lads kept battling. Cian Barry struck for his second goal of the evening to keep the pressure on, only for Blarney to respond with another goal as the game entered its final ten minutes.
With time running out, Daniel Fitzgerald was introduced for Seán O'Dowd. Within seconds of coming onto the pitch, Eoghan Croke found Daniel, who found the net to give us another lifeline and set up a tense finish.
The lads pushed hard for an equaliser, and Cian Barry converted a late free to reduce the gap to the minimum. Unfortunately, the final whistle arrived before we could find another score, with Blarney holding on for a 4-9 to 5-5 victory.
It was a heartbreaking way to finish, particularly after the effort the lads put in to get themselves back into the game on several occasions.
There were some excellent individual contributions, with Cian Barry finishing with 2-4, Eoghan Croke contributing 1-1, and Aidee Carr and Daniel Fitzgerald also getting on the scoresheet with important goals.
While the result didn't go our way, the lads can be very proud of their efforts throughout the championship and the year itself. They have showed great character, keep fighting right to the end and gave everything in this final.

EAST CORK JUNIOR B HURLING. Our Junior B hurlers made the short trip to Castlelyons on Sunday morning where we took on Lisgoold in the East Cork quarter final. We drew with Youghal, lost to Aghad and then defeated Killeagh to qualify for a quarter final spot. It was our Third team v Lisgoold’s second string. Lisgoold started brightly with the opening point but with 3 white flags in a row, two from William Finnegan and one from Ryan O Callaghan we grew into the match to take an early lead. Lisgoold got the next two to level the game before Frank O Flynn got his first point in the opening ten minutes followed by another from Lisgoold.
We enjoyed a real purple patch in the next then and our defence were really on top and points from William (2) and one each for Liam Forde and Seamus Ahern saw us into an 8 points to 4 lead at the twentieth minute mark.
Lisgoold rallied and outscored us 1-4 to 3 points over the next 10 minutes with all three of our points coming from William and it looked like the sides were going in at half time all square until Sean Dowling managed to win a breaking ball in the square and finish it to the back of the net to give us a 3 point lead at half time.
We started the second half brightly and points from Frank, William John O Sullivan saw us into a 6-point lead at the 35th minute mark 1-14 to 1-8. Both sides were defending ferociously and scores where hard to come by. Lisgoold did get 3 of the next 4 points to leave the score 1-15 to 1-12 at the 50th minute setting up grandstand finish.
Twice William extended our lead to 4 points before Lisgoold responded both times with a point, so the margin was still 3 going into injury time. Lisgoold were throwing everything at our defence but time after time we seemed to get the ball out one way or another. With time up Lisgoold had one more chance with a free from around 25m out but a fine save on the line and the resulting clearance was meet with the final whistle and we had hung on to win by three points . Well done lads on a great display.
We now advance to meet Castlelyons in the semi-final on the first weekend in October but no time or date has be confirmed for this fixture yet. Youghal will meet Midleton in the other semi. Likely dates for these games are weekend of October 3rd/4th

BRIDE ROVERS 100, 1928-2028.A committee has been formed and plans are afoot already for a range of events to showcase and celebrate our club during 2028, the centenary year of our club.
It is hoped to showcase a range of club photos in a meaningful way.
The committee seek photos that predate social media and camera phones. You may have photos buried away in cupboards that may have captured rarely seen images of our club's rich history. Many people kept photos in the ’Envelopes’ that came back from the Chemist after Development- check everything out!
All help would be appreciated. Contact Betty Cahill on 0861540902 or Arlene O'Callaghan on 086 408 0522 for further info.

MINOR HURLING FINAL. On Sunday next we meet Youghal in the East Region Rebel Og Minor Hurling Final. The teams met in the Round Robin section in August at Pairc na Bride- the game ended in a draw. Since hen we’ve lost heavily to Youghal in two football games. The serious injury last Saturday to Oliver Harris is a huge blow to our hopes. We wish Oliver a speedy recovery from his hand injury. Youghal are chasing a Minor Double on Sunday next so it’s a huge task for our side. We have some great young hurlers so we wish them and their mentors all the very best on Sunday the game is fixed for 4 o clock in Glenville. St Catherines play Castlelyons in the Minor B final, also in Glenville, at half one.
CORK PREMIER SENIOR & A HURLING. It’s down to semi final stage now at County level. In our Grade, the premier Senior the two teams in our Group are still involved. Midleton meet Glen Rovers while St Finbarr’s meet Kanturk. In the SAHC semis it’s an East Cork Deby between Erins Own while Blarney meet Carrigtwohill -will it be an ‘All Red Final’ between Blarney and the Hill?
JUNIOR A & B in SEMIS. With our Junior A team already in the JAHC semi final we now know our opponents. Carrignavar had an easy win over Fr O Neill’s last Saturday so we meet Carrig in one semi. Cobh beat Carrigtwohill and will face Killeagh in the other semi.
