REBEL ÓG PREMIER 2 HURLING SHIELD FINAL
Saturday September in Carrigtwohill Killeagh 5-12, Mallow 1-13
Top billing this week goes to our fantastic Under 14 hurling squad who defeated Mallow in a cracking Premier 2 Shield Final on Saturday afternoon in Carrigtwohill. Having lost to Mallow in both the hurling league and the group stage of the championship, we were up against it, especially considering that this Mallow squad had just the week previous won the Premier 1 football championship. Our boys were not daunted by the task, and got going from the off. In the first half we played against the strong wind and defended heroically against a strong and physical Mallow side to trail by just three points at half-time. The second half saw us play inspired hurling and get the goals that gave us a thoroughly deserved victory. Every member of this small panel contributed to the brilliant team effort on the day. As is customary, the boys and their even younger supporters paraded the cup through the streets of Killeagh on their journey home, much to the joy of residents and local shoppers who all came out to applaud the boys. Nothing like a bit of manic main street beeping!!

Saturday September 19th in Killeagh Ballinacurra 2-33, Killeagh 3-24 After Extra Time
With our Junior B and Senior A hurlers falling by the wayside, and our Junior A hurlers waiting in the wings for their semi-final bout (against Cobh, we now know), it fell to our CCC (the Colm Crowley Crew) to whet our interest over the past fortnight, and what entertainment they gave us, as they have all year. A Round 3 tie against Erins Own on Monday 8th saw us blitz our opponents in the first half, at the end of which we led by 4-13 to 0-05. A Ciaran O’Rourke double and further goals from Shane Kearney and Diarmuid Buckley were supplemented by points from Dave Ogbebor, Lee Cooney, Padraic Carroll and Diarmuid. Erins Own did make a comeback of sorts in the second half but we had enough in the tank to see it out. This saw us through to a quarter-final, and we won the toss for venue, thereby hosting Ballinacurra in the battle of the green and white on Saturday evening last in picturesque Páirc Uí Chinnéide. A flying start saw us score 1-04 from play in the opening five minutes, with Ciaran O’Rourke clocking 1-02 and Padraic Carroll and Shane Kearney also pointing. Ballinacurra began with three wides before they got off the mark from a free, but Lee Cooney then scored two excellent points from the left wing, where he was excellent all through, to put us ahead by 1-06 to 0-02 after just ten minutes. Our scores then dried up somewhat, as Ballinacurra found their range. We relied on three placed balls from Padraic Carroll and one point from play from Diarmuid Buckley to give us a one point lead at half time – 1-10 to 0-12. Lee Cooney’s goal on 34 minutes stretched our lead to four (2-12 to 0-14) but Ballinacurra kept up the pressure to reduce the margin to one by the 50th minute (2-17 to 0-22). Ciaran O’Rourke then got his second goal of the evening following great work by Dave Ogbebor on 56 minutes, stretching our lead to six points (3-20 to 0-23). However, we failed to add to our total, while Ballinacurra scored three points from play in quick succession and then goaled with the last play to force extra time. We managed to keep the scores level in the opening ten (3-24 to 1-30) but were by now reliant totally on frees from Padraic (11 in total between frees and ‘65s), and in the final ten, Ballinacurra scored three quick points and then their second goal to seal the win. For a Junior C hurling match, this was a game of very high standard, with brilliant scoring by both sides, and real determination throughout. Over the course of these two matches, we used 22 players, with Adrian Galvin and Olin Hennessy becoming numbers 85 and 86 to play championship in 2026. Thanks to all who have been part of the Junior B / C squad in 2026, you have given us great enjoyment, and thanks to the mentors on the line – Colm, Harry, Micheál, Mark and Eamonn. A football semi-final awaits.

O’CONNOR MOTOR FACTORS EAST CORK JUNIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
Saturday September 12th in Ballynoe Glenbower Rovers 3-11, Castlelyons 0-12
Our Junior B footballers secured safe passage to the semi-finals of this year’s East Cork Championship following victory over a gallant Castlelyons outfit who may yet have a big say in the ultimate destination of this prize. Similar to our other matches against Glenville and Bride Rovers, it took us a while to get into our stride, as we kicked three wides in the opening ten minutes before Paudie Mackey opened our account with a free. Three goals in the next fifteen minutes put us in a strong position, with Brendan Delaney, Richie Long and Evan Lane finishing off good team moves. Paudie, Eoin Brenner and Dara Motherway added points, but Castlelyons were very much in the hunt, with their outstanding goalkeeper Stephen Hickey kicking the first of his two two-pointers in the closing minutes to leave us ahead by 3-04 to 0-06 ag leath am. His second effort opened the scoring in the second half before Evan Lane kicked a fine point with his left foot, followed by another fine effort from Paudie Mackey, restoring our seven-point advantage (3-06 to 0-08). The arrival of the hitherto unavailable trio of Rob Sinclair, Barry Walsh and Seamus Harnedy strengthened our on-field presence for the final quarter, with points from Brendan, Rob, Paudie and a pair from our star man on the night, Sean Walsh, rounding off our scoring, although Castlelyons added four points of their own to keep us honest. Next up we play Ballinacurra on Sunday September 27th at 1130 hrs in Cloyne in the semi-final, with Glenville and Bride Rovers on the other side. Our Junior C footballers are in action on the day before, Saturday September 26th against Carrigtwohill at 1700 hrs, venue TBC.

REBEL ÓG PREMIER 2 MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINAL
Wednesday September 9th in Sallybrook Diarmuid Ó Murchú’s 2-13 Killeagh 1-14
Killeagh travelled to Sallybrook, Glanmire for the Semi-final of P2 minor football championship. Our opponents were Diarmuid O’Murchu, an amalgamation of Crosshaven and Shamrocks. In what was a frustrating game, Murchu’s set up defensively and we struggled to break them down. It was tit for tat in the opening exchanges with Andrew (2 frees) and Ruben replying to 3 scores from Murchu’s. John kicked an excellent 2 pointer free outside the 45, which was replied to by Murchu’s free taker. We struck an excellent goal from a great finish by Alex Fogarty and 2 frees from Andrew after fouls on Ben and Ruben. We had a 5 point lead with 2 minutes remaining in the first half, but an excellent 2 pointer, followed by a goal on the stroke of half time by Murchu’s saw us finish level on the short whistle.
Murchu’s had the opening 2 points of the second half which Andrew responded to with 4 pointed frees, after great work from Ben, Ruben and Cormac. Murchu’s kicked 3 more points before Andrew scored again from a placed ball. A late hit on Cormac Deane in the 53rd minute saw the ref produce a yellow card. It was a decisive moment. Ben scored a good point. On the 54th minute a fast break resulted in a converted Murchu’s penalty. They kicked another point to pull 4 points clear. The lads tried valiantly, with Andrew pointing two more frees to leave 2 points between the sides in injury. Try as they might, the lads could not manufacture one final opportunity to save the game. The full-time whistle saw our interest in the minor football championship come to an end, the lads have had a great run, playing some excellent football at times.

REBEL ÓG PREMIER 2 MINOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINAL
Thursday September 17th in Youghal Killeagh 0-25, Kiltha Óg 2-15
We travelled to Top of the Hill, Youghal on 17th September for a local derby with Kiltha Og in the semi-final of the P2 hurling championship. Kiltha had a good start with 2 pointed frees. Ben started brightly and hit 2 early scores before Kiltha struck for a goal and a point. The lads settled, great work by Rian, Dillon and Alex at the back saw us get a foothold and we hit a purple patch with scores from John and Cormac followed by 6 in a row from Ben saw us lead by 4. We were caught for goal by Kiltha and they struck 3 further points in a row before Andrew and Ben replied to leave us trail by 2-8 to 0-12 at the short whistle.
Kiltha struck 2 points straight after half time. Ben continued to punish Kiltha, reeling off 8 in a row. Andrew, Charlie, Cormac, John and Ruben worked incredibly hard around the middle third as Alex drove us forward. Eolann made 2 great saves. Patrick, Rian O’ and Alex Howey started to get on top. Ben added 2 more, to bring his tally to a phenomenal 20 points from 21 shots, Kiltha struck 3 in reply. A late red card for Kiltha saw Cormac drop back to the defence and he was immense for the final 10 minutes. We led by 2 heading toward the full-time whistle. Andrew struck a lovely score, and Jay struck a beauty from the sideline to see us lead by 4 at the full-time whistle.
This was a great team performance. The lads kept going right to the final whistle. It was a hugely competitive game. Our defence and midfield worked so hard. Rian, Alex, Andrew, Cathal, Cormac, John and Ben showed great leadership. We have now qualified to play St. Finbarr’s in the County Final at 6:30pm on Monday, 28th September in Pairc Ui Rinn (TBC).

Well done to the ladies footballers of Inch Rovers who had a fantastic victory over Dohenys LGFA in Sam Maguire Park, Dunmanway on Sunday, thereby qualifying for the County Intermediate Final against Bride Rovers in two weeks’ time. Backboned by an experienced crew of All-Ireland winners and a slew of speedy, talented Under 18s, it’s time to get the red and white bunting out! Go n-éirí libh!
