Park South 10 Year Anniversary.
Next week (21st September) sees the 10th anniversary of the purchase of c37 acres of land in Park South Midleton for Midleton GAA club. Immediately, following an auction of the 140acres farm, (the entire lot was purchased by Irish Distillers) the club entered into an agreement with Irish Distillers to purchase the grounds we now have in Park South. The land was previously owned by the Buckley family and two members of that family, Michael and William, were members of the Midleton/Cork 1890 football team that won Cork's first All-Ireland senior football title. Since the purchase of the land in 2016 the club has transformed the landscape into four magnificent pitches, 2 with state of the art floodlights, in what is now regarded as one of the best GAA facilities in the country. The grounds now cater for all our club teams, all the schools in the area, Cork teams in hurling and football, ladies and gents, as well as hosting Munster colleges and interfirm GAA fixtures. We are sure Michael and William Buckley would approve. A new walkway around the lower pitches has recently been completed and this will link with the walkway around the 3G pitch in the coming weeks. We would like to thank all those who have, and continue to, help in any way in the magnificent progress made in the development. The next big project will be the erection of the dressing rooms and we hope to commence these sometime in the coming year (2027). We have a substantial debt from all this work and we need everybody's help in ensuring this burden is made as light as possible as ongoing maintenance costs and bank repayments are substantial. An awful lot done but plenty more to do.
CO-OP Superstore Intermediate A Hurling Chanmpionship Q-Final

Parking will be provided in a field adjacent to our grounds with pedestrian access provided from the car park. Junior A Football Championship Round 3: Match Report – Midleton 1-11 V Aghada 1-07
Our Junior A footballers faced Aghada in the third and final round of the Junior A Championship in Ballinacurra on Sunday, September 13th. Having collected three points from a possible four in our opening two games, victory in this final group match would secure our place in the knockout stages.
Conditions were ideal for football, with the Ballinacurra pitch presented in immaculate condition.
Midleton made a bright start and were awarded a penalty during one of our early attacks. Although the penalty was not converted into a goal, Sean McSharry opened our account from the resulting kick. Shortly afterwards, Evan McGrath added a two-pointer to give Midleton an early advantage.
Midleton enjoyed the majority of possession throughout the opening half but found it difficult at times to break down a disciplined and well-organised Aghada defence. On several occasions, Midleton worked the ball into promising scoring positions, only for the final pass or shot to go astray. Points from Aaron Mulcahy, Calum O'Brien and Tadhg O'Leary-Hayes saw Midleton build a five-point lead after 15 minutes.
However, Aghada struck for a goal against the run of play, which gave them renewed momentum and helped swing the contest back in their favour. By halftime, Aghada had edged ahead.

Liam McGrath was introduced at the break, and the second half began with Aghada extending their lead to 2-points. Midleton responded well and gradually regained control of proceedings.
A crucial period midway through the half saw Mathew McSweeney score two important points. His first levelled the game, while his second restored Midleton's lead. The decisive moment came shortly afterwards when Sean McSharry intercepted an attempted short kick-out and quickly set up Evan McGrath, who calmly finished to the net.
Further points from Cian Lambe and Sean McSharry stretched Midleton's advantage to six points. Aghada battled to the end and reduced the deficit late on, but Midleton remained in control and saw out the game comfortably.
This was an outstanding team performance from the entire Midleton panel. Josh Foley was assured in goal, while Cian Crowley, Adam Fay and Darragh Codd remained disciplined and dependable throughout the game.
Darragh Egan and Alan Power made significant contributions to the victory with their tireless work rate, making numerous attacking and defensive runs along their respective wings.
At midfield, Tadhg and Brion continued their excellent run of form, providing a strong platform for the team. Calum O'Brien, Liam McGrath and Jack Fitzgerald also played key roles and made valuable contributions to the win.
A special mention as well to Leo, Colin and Ben, whose efforts and commitment were important factors in securing the victory.

This result secures Midleton's place in the East Cork Junior A Football Championship semi-final, which is scheduled to be played in October.
Junior C Football Report: Midleton v Carrigtwohill – Midleton 0-12 V Carrigtwohill 2-14
Our Junior C footballers played their final game of the season on Saturday, September 12th, on our excellent sand-based pitch in Park South.
With player numbers tight for the fixture, we would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who made themselves available. It was particularly pleasing to welcome Johnny Comer back to the football panel after taking a short break from the game. Special mention must also go to Daniel O'Donovan and Bradley O'Brien, whose late availability helped ensure we fielded the required fifteen players. Both went on to deliver outstanding performances.
Midleton made a very positive start to the game. The midfield partnership of Colin Dowling and Padraig O'Brien dominated early exchanges and created several scoring opportunities. Daniel Garde, Liam McSweeney, and Odhran Dennigan also settled well into the contest. Thanks to Johnny Comer's accuracy in front of goal, including an excellent two-point score, Midleton raced into a four-point lead.
At the other end of the field, Josh Foley in goals, along with defenders James O'Sullivan, Luke Deane, and Brendan Ferriter, produced excellent defensive displays to keep Midleton firmly in contention heading into the break.

Eoin Ferriter took over goalkeeping duties for the second half, and Midleton again started brightly. In defence, Alex Moloney, Daniel O'Donovan, and Bradley O'Brien impressed with some determined play, while Ben O'Neill, Colin Sunderland, and Johnny Comer continued to lead the attack with great energy.
A Carrigtwohill goal midway through the second half created a gap between the sides. However, Midleton never gave up and continued to battle until the final whistle. Ultimately, goals proved decisive, with Carrigtwohill's two major scores making the difference on the scoreboard.

This was the final game of what has been a very successful season for our Junior C football panel. Your commitment, effort and dedication have been greatly appreciated, and we look forward to building on this year's progress in the seasons ahead.

Cork 1985
Following on Cork’s All-Ireland victories in 1966 and 1976 this September marks the 40th anniversary of Cork’s 26 All-Ireland title in 1986. Cork, with Tom Cashman as captain, had five Midleton players in the starting line up, one of the highest representations from any Cork club in a starting All-Ireland final. The players were Denis Mulcahy, Pat Hartnett, John Fenton, Kevin Hennessy and Ger Fitzgerald (RIP). For the Fitzgerald family it marked a unique father/son achievement, Paddy and Ger winning All-Ireland senior medals twenty years apart. For the record three of the players, Denis Mulcahy, John Fenton and Kevin Hennessy also won All Star awards, again one highest representations from any club in any Allstars awards night.

Fé13 Boys
On Saturday, September 12th, our Fé13 boys hosted the annual Br. Cunningham Hurling Tournament at Park South.
Br. Cunningham (1934–2024) served as Principal of Midleton CBS Primary School for over 20 years, from the late 1970s to the late 1990s. During that time, he instilled a great love of Gaelic games in generations of pupils and also gave many years of service to Midleton GAA, including as manager and coach of the club’s U12 hurling team. The annual tournament is a fitting way to remember his contribution to both the school and the club.
This year we were delighted to welcome teams from Doora-Barefield (Clare), Doon (Limerick), Roanmore (Waterford), Erin’s Own and Carrigaline (Cork). The participation of Doon and Doora-Barefield was particularly fitting, with Doon being Br. Cunningham’s home club and Doora-Barefield also having strong connections. It was an early start for coaches and parents, who arrived in Park South in fairly miserable conditions to set up gazebos, shelter and food for the day ahead. The action got underway at 11.30am and continued non-stop throughout the day, right up to the Cup Final throw-in at 4.30pm. Thankfully, the rain cleared as the day progressed and conditions improved for what turned out to be a great day of hurling.
Midleton began their campaign with victories over Erin’s Own and Doora-Barefield, earning a place in the Cup semi-final against Carrigaline. Here, it was the Carrigdhoun side who had the better of the opening half, leading 1-02 to 0-02 at the break. However, a couple of early Midleton goals proved decisive after the restart, and the lads pushed on strongly to secure a 3-05 to 1-03 victory and a place in the Cup Final.
That set up a rematch with Doora-Barefield, who had impressed throughout the tournament. The pattern of the previous game continued into the final, with Midleton again finding themselves behind at half-time. However, as the lads have shown throughout this year, they dug deep when the need was greatest. Two crucial second-half goals brought Midleton right back into the contest and, in a nail-biting finish, they held on to claim the Cup by the narrowest of margins on a final scoreline of Midleton 3-07, Doora-Barefield 1-12. In the Shield Final, Erin’s Own defeated Roanmore following another closely contested game.
A huge thank you to all the travelling players, coaches and supporters from the five visiting clubs who made the journey to Midleton and contributed to such an enjoyable and sporting tournament. Thanks also to Dave Butler and Niall O’Neill, who refereed the matches fairly and consistently throughout the day. Finally, a special word of thanks to all the Midleton parents and coaches who helped with the organisation in the run-up to the tournament and who gave their time from early morning until late afternoon on the day itself. From setting up pitches and gazebos to providing food, refreshments and general assistance throughout the day, it was a fantastic team effort.

U14
Under lights on the Astro on Fri 11th Sept our U14’s took part in our first game of U14B championship.
Captained by Aisling Kelly, girls from our U12,U13 & U14 age groups took to the pitch against Carrigaline. It was a very closely contested battle and the girls in every position on the pitch fought hard to edge ahead. Their efforts paid off in the end, our girls took the lead and came away with the win. Up next in this competition is Ballincollig away.
U16 Camogie Championship
A fantastic evening of camogie as Midleton travelled away to Castlemartyr for their second championship game on Saturday 11th of September . It was a very exciting and competitive game, with Midleton playing exceptionally well all over the pitch. The girls worked hard from start to finish and came away with a well-deserved win on a scoreline of Midleton 1-19, Castlemartyr 3-6.
A big thank you to the girls who played up from the younger teams and contributed so well on the night. Well done to all the girls, and to our captain Saoirse.
Premier Junior Championship Semi- Final
Midleton V Mallow Friday Sept 4th in Park South , Midleton
Midleton 2-10 Mallow 1-12
Our Premier Junior team qualified for the Championship County Final after a nail biting semi final win over an excellent Mallow side on Friday night last. Midleton got off to a good start with an early goal from Rachel Ryan. First half points from Faye Dunlea 0-3fs, Sadhbh Beausang , Sarah Goulding and Rachel Ryan again saw us lead at HT on the score of 1-06 to 0-06. 2 points early in the 2nd half saw our lead extended to 5 points midway through the half. But Mallow came roaring back into the game and a goal from a deft flick, following a long delivery , saw them into a 1 point lead as we entered the last 10 mins but a brilliant goal by Sadhbh Beausang, which came from some quick thinking by Lucy Wallace put us 2 in front again. Even though Mallow cut the lead to 1 point Midleton held out for a well earned win and a place in the Final on Sunday Sept 27th. This was a really hard fought win with everyone playing their part. Sorcha Cronin was rock solid at full back, Kate O'Sullivan outstanding at centre back with her 2 wing backs Rebecca Cronin and Julie Murphy prominent throughout. Molly Beausang and Lucy Wallace were always in the thick of a busy midfield area while Vivienne Gleeson and Faye Dunlea got through an amount of work on the 40. Rachel Ryan likewise worked hard throughout and added 1-01 to the scoreboard. Sadhbh Beausang was a constant threat on the edge of the square and was rewarded with the decisive score late on.
We look forward to the Final now on Sept 27th in Castle Road V Bishopstown.
