SEASON-DEFINING CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND
A hugely important weekend lies ahead for Glenville GAA, with all three of our adult football teams entering their final championship group games with an opportunity to qualify for the knockout stages.
It is a situation that gives the club plenty to look forward to. Three teams will take to the field across Friday and Sunday knowing that their respective seasons remain very much alive. A successful weekend could provide tremendous momentum for the club heading into the closing stages of the championship.
PREMIER JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP
The action begins on Friday evening when our first team faces Inniscarra in the final round of the McCarthy Insurance Group Premier Junior Football Championship in Ovens at 7.30pm.
Glenville has shown considerable resilience in the opening two rounds, earning draws against Urhan and Cobh. The dramatic late goal against Cobh demonstrated the determination and fighting spirit that have characterised this group throughout the season.
The position ahead of Friday is clear: victory over Inniscarra will secure Glenville’s place in the knockout stages. It is win or bust, and the players will enter the game determined to produce the performance required to continue their championship campaign.
This is a major game for the club, and we wish the players and management the very best of luck. We encourage as many Glenville supporters as possible to travel to Ovens and give the team the strong backing they deserve.
JUNIOR B CHAMPIONSHIP
Attention then turns to the East Cork championships on Sunday, when both our Junior B and Junior D footballers conclude their respective group campaigns.
The Junior B team faces Ballinacurra in Glenville at 4pm. Despite defeats in its opening two matches, this young side remains in contention for qualification due to the cross-group format used in the competition.
The final positions could be determined by scoring difference and the outcome of Bride Rovers’ game against Cobh. Glenville will therefore approach Sunday’s contest knowing that every score could prove important.
The team produced a greatly improved performance against Cobh in the previous round, losing by only a single point, and will hope to build on the effort, creativity and determination shown that day.
Best of luck to the players and management in this important game. We encourage supporters to come along and get behind the team.
JUNIOR D CHAMPIONSHIP
Later on Sunday, our Junior D footballers travel to face Cobh at 6.30pm.
Glenville enters the game knowing that a draw will be enough to secure qualification for the East Cork final. Should they progress, Cobh would again provide the opposition in the decider.
The Junior D team has put itself in an excellent position through its performances earlier in the competition and now has an opportunity to complete the job.
We wish the players and management every success as they seek to book their place in the final.
Having all three adult teams still competing for qualification on the final weekend of the group stages is a positive reflection of the commitment shown by Glenville’s players and management teams throughout the year.
Friday and Sunday could represent a defining weekend in the club’s season. We wish the Premier Junior, Junior B and Junior D teams the very best of luck and encourage supporters to get behind all three sides.

PROUD DAY FOR GLENVILLE DUO
Congratulations to Paudie Cahill and Clíona Cotter, who were both involved with the Cork Masters football team in Saturday’s All-Ireland Challenge Cup final against Galway.
Cork produced a tremendous performance in a thrilling contest, with Galway eventually prevailing after extra-time. Although the result was heartbreaking, reaching an All-Ireland final and pushing Galway all the way was an achievement of which the entire Cork panel and management team can be extremely proud.
Paudie played brilliantly when introduced and contributed several excellent points in what might be described as the team’s “Peter Canavan role”. He made a major impact on the game and represented Glenville with great distinction on the national stage.
Clíona also played an important role as the Cork team’s physiotherapist, helping to prepare and support the players throughout their journey to the All-Ireland final.
Everyone at Glenville GAA warmly congratulates Paudie and Clíona on their involvement and the valuable contributions they made to a memorable Cork Masters campaign. Both did themselves, their families and the club extremely proud.
UNDERAGE
U11
Our U11s produced an exceptional performance away to Kilworth, showing tremendous skill, teamwork and determination from the opening whistle until the end.
The players worked extremely hard across the field, supporting one another at every opportunity and displaying great composure on the ball. Their passing, movement and decision-making were particularly impressive, while the effort they made to win possession and help their teammates reflected the excellent spirit within the group.
There was some outstanding football played, with the Glenville players putting many of the skills they have been developing in training into practice. Every member of the team made an important contribution, and the players can be extremely proud of both their individual performances and the way they played together.
Kilworth also contributed greatly to a very enjoyable, competitive and sporting contest.
Well done to all the Glenville players on an excellent performance and to the mentors for their continued work and encouragement. Thanks to Kilworth for hosting us and to all the parents who travelled to support the team.
U8 BLITZ
Our U8 footballers enjoyed a great morning at a football blitz in Midleton on Saturday.
There was some fantastic football and teamwork from the boys across all their matches. They performed particularly well when they found themselves facing teams with an extra player or two, showing great determination and continuing to work hard for one another.
Well done to all the boys and their coaches. Thanks to Midleton for hosting a very enjoyable morning of football and to all the parents who travelled and supported the team.
U6
Our U6 footballers welcomed Erin’s Own to Glenville for a morning of football on Saturday.
There was plenty of excellent play, enthusiasm and enjoyment from both teams throughout a series of entertaining and sporting games.
Well done to all the boys who took part. Thanks to Erin’s Own for travelling to Glenville and to all the coaches and parents for their continued support.

GLENVILLE GAA LOTTO
The numbers drawn in the latest Glenville GAA Lotto were 8, 13, 23 and 24. There was no winner of the €14,200 jackpot.
The four €20 lucky-dip winners were Brian O’Connell, Ava Coakley, Veronica O’Connell and Dan Lenihan. Congratulations to each of the winners.
The jackpot will now rise to €14,300, with the next draw taking place in Kades Kounty on Friday, September 11th.
