MIDLETON 1-18 NEWCESTOWN 1-17
The Midleton senior hurlers made it two championship wins from two games on Saturday at Pairc Ui Rinn when they struck late to seal a one point win over Newcestown in round two of the Premier Senior Hurling Championship. This is the second year and row that these teams have met at this juncture of the championship and on both occasions there was nothing between the teams. Last year the game ended in a draw and this time around we needed an injury-time white flag to collect the points. The West Cork men were quick out of the traps and they led by 0-3 to 0-1 (Conor Lehane) after four minutes. The Magpies hit three of the next four points and when goalkeeper, Brion Saunderson, sent over a monster of a point from play we took the lead for the first time, 0-5 to 0-4 after 12 minutes.
Newcestown soon levelled but two cracking points from championship debutant, Conor Morley, saw the Magpies lead by 0-8 to 0-6 after 22 minutes. But back came Newcestown with two in a row to level matters at 0-8 apiece before Midleton points from a Conor Lehane free and a beauty from play from Tommy O’Connell saw us lead by 0-10 to 0-8 at the halfway stage.
A Mikey Finn white flag in the 40th minute put us three ahead (0-12 to 0-9) but Newcestown hit a purple patch soon after and scored a quick 1-2 to go back in front, 1-11 to 0-12.
A point from play and one from a ‘65 from Conor Lehane put the men in black and white back in front but Newcestown wrestled back the lead on a score of 1-13 to 0-14 with eight minutes to play and soon after their lead became three, with now just three minutes to play.
Cormac Beausang cut the deficit for the Magpies before Ross O’Regan got a lovely goal to put us back in front, 1-17 to 1-16, with two minutes to play but a Newcestown free had the sides level in injury time and a second draw between the two teams in two years looked the most likely outcome.
But thankfully Davy Cremin had other ideas as he popped up with a beauty of a point to put us one ahead deep into stoppage time and the victory was sealed by a fantastic hook by Killian McDermott when Newcestown looked certain to level once more.
Our final group game takes place on Sunday week, September 6, when we take on Bride Rovers in Caherlag at 4pm.

CO-Op Superstores Intermediate Hurling Championship 21/08/2026
Our Intermediate hurlers got back on track on Friday night with a 2-19 to 1-19 victory against Blackrock. The city side got off to a fast start but a goal from long range from Killian Burke got us back into the game. A close first half followed and ended with Blackrock leading 0-13 to 1-9 at the break. The close encounter continued after half time when there was never more than 3 points between the sides but a red card midway through the half for Blackrock allowed us to gain control. This was followed by a goal from Daragh Egan with 53 minutes on the clock which saw us push 5 points clear. This lead stretched to 6 into injury time before a late goal from Blackrock saw them close the gap to 3 but the referee called time on the game. This result now puts us back in contention for a knockout place when we play Kildorrery in two weeks time.

Facitilites
Over the past number of weeks we have hosted a number of Championship games in Clonmult Memorial Park, many thanks to all our volunteers who helped prepare the pitch and the grounds. Huge work was done cleaning, painting, watering the pitch, etc by our club members and our CES and SECAD staff.
On Bank Holiday Sunday 2nd we hosted a Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship doubleheader where Castlemartyr defeated Lisgoold in the first game and Cloyne with a late goal defeated Dungourney in the second game before a large crowd.
We concluded the evening with music in the lounge from Tony Mac , a draw for club members and some shapes on the dance floor, thank God for the rest on Bank holiday Monday!
The following Wednesday evening we hosted Imokilly and UCC in the Division/ Colleges Hurling Championship with the local team winning by a comfortable margin 4-26 to 0-19.
Saturday the 15th saw us host Aghada against Lisgoold in the East Cork Junior A Football Championship with the men from Lisgoold taking the honours by 3-12 to 1-11.
Last Sunday afternoon the 23rd in glorious weather and amidst all of our own championship games we hosted Blackrock and Fr O’ Neills in the Senior Hurling Championship with the city team progressing on a score line of 3-29 to 2-23.
Well done to some of the O’Neills supporters who cycled in from Mogeely along the Greenway and indeed to some of the Rockies lads who travelled down by train allowing them to avail of our hospitality.
We are looking forward to hosting Killeagh and Na Piarsaigh on Saturday week 5th in the Senior A Hurling Championship final group game at 5.30pm where a large crowd is expected again.
Once again we will look to call on the regular fantastic support from 70 odd of our members to oversee this game for gate duties, car parking, stewarding, etc….
In the coming weeks we will see the development of the old dressing room area taking place, detailed notice of the construction will follow as soon as possible.
At Park South our walkway is almost complete with the final stone laying currently taking place along with some landscaping work throughout the site.
The area behind the sand based has now been rotavated, harrowed and the grass seed has been sown just as the much sought after rain arrived.
With the evenings closing in we expect to see an increase in training and games under lights, we ask that all teams please park sensibly and to lock up dressing rooms and gates as we go.

Having beaten Carrigtwohill and lost to Blackrock in their opening two games, Midleton’s minor hurlers travelled to Riverstown on Wednesday night last knowing that nothing other than a win would ensure their passage to the semi-finals of the championship, while a draw would suffice for the home side.
This was a cracking game from start to finish played in front of a huge crowd, who really got into it from the first whistle.
There was nothing between the teams early on and the sides were level on numerous occasions throughout the first half before the home side edged ahead in the second quarter to lead by three at the half-time break, 0-10 to 0-7.
Sars hit the opening point of the second-half to stretch their lead but then Midleton really began to hurl well and five unanswered points saw them strike the front.
There was nothing in it from here to the 56th minute when Adam Dunlea goaled to put Sars in the driving seat and Midleton’s championship aspirations looked in big trouble but this team is made of stern stuff and they never threw in the towel.
The home side looked set to cling on to victory when leading by a single point deep in injury-time but a brilliant delivery from a Max Murphy free was excellently flicked to the net by Jack Cahill and after the referee consulted with his umpires, the goal was given and the Midleton support went wild.
The final whistle sounded soon after and Midleton had fashioned a famous win over their great rivals on their home sod. An outstanding effort by each and every player in black and white.
Midleton will now face Glen Rovers in the County semi-final on Wednesday, September 2 at a venue to be confirmed. Na Piarsaigh and Blackrock will contest the other semi-final.

Another busy week for the Fé13 boys. On Tuesday last they defeated Watergrasshill away in the third round of the 1B hurling league. The panel for the match was: Luke Dunlea, Kalvin O'Brien, Sean Fitzgerald, Dylan Cashman, Odhran Murphy, Olan Connolly, Darragh Grant, Oran Byrne, Conor Cantwell, Ben Walsh, Conall Cody, Tiernan Carroll, John Murphy, Matthew Greene, Luca Oosthuizen, Harry Corcoran, Dylan Daly, Finn Harringotn.
Then on Friday, the Fé13 boys were victorious away to Bishopstown in the fourth round of the 4B hurling league. The panel for that match was: Dylan Cashman, Lochlann Thomas, Olan Connolly, Harry Corcoran, Shay O'Sullivan, Tiernan Carroll, Karl Fitzgerald, Sean Fitzgerald, Conall Cody, Daithí Thomas, John Murphy, Luca Oosthuizen, Tadhg Lane, Finn Harrington, Dylan Daly, Conall O'Dalaigh, Cian Fitz, Tom Cahill.

Intermediate Championship Round 2 23/08/2026
Midleton 10-16 Valley Rovers 3-07
Midleton delivered a masterclass in attacking efficiency at Park South to secure a commanding victory over Valley Rovers in Round 2 of the Cork Ladies Intermediate Football Championship. From the opening whistle, the Magpies' forwards showed relentless sharpness, ruthlessly punishing the Valley Rovers defense to rack up an astronomical 10-16. The game initially looked like a one-sided affair as Midleton dominated the early exchanges. The very impressive Sadhbh Beausang was in spectacular form, finishing the day with a massive personal haul of 2-07. She set the tone early by tormenting the Valley Rovers backline, registering 1-05 of her total in a blistering first-half performance. Backed by solid defensive work, Midleton built what seemed to be a comfortable 2-06 to 0-04 lead at half-time.
The second half, however, brought a dramatic shift in momentum. The Magpies will undoubtedly be worried about a precarious 15-minute spell where they completely took their foot off the gas. Valley Rovers battled courageously and took full advantage of the lapse, exploiting defensive gaps to fire home three soft goals in quick succession. This spirited comeback completely re-ignited the contest and brought Rovers right back into the mix. Despite the scare, Midleton's lethal attack found its rhythm just in time to weather the storm. Rachel Quirke caused endless problems from the full-forward berth, showing great aerial presence and netting a brilliant hat-trick to contribute 3-01 to the scoreboard. The ever-consistent Faye Dunlea also heavily played her part in the victory, chipping in with a vital personal tally of 1-02 to keep the scoreboard ticking over at crucial moments. Viv Gleeson was another notable standout, working tirelessly to link play and keep the pressure firmly on the opposition.
In the middle of the field, former Cork star Orla Farmer put on a clinic. Showing all her trademark inter-county fitness and experience, she marshalled the transitions and dominated the breaks, completely controlling the tempo during the final stretch to rightfully earn the Player of the Match accolade.
By the final whistle, Midleton's powerhouse finish settled any remaining nerves. The emphatic strong finish suggested to the large attendance that this side possesses serious resilience. This crucial Round 2 win means they stand every chance of heading down to West Cork in two weeks' time and taking the spoils. With both teams in fine form, that upcoming fixture is already shaping up to be the game of the championship so far.
Camogie
U12
Our U12 Midleton Camogie teams had two great friendlies against Carrigaline last weekend. The Black and White teams were led out by captains Clodagh and Hannah at Park South. There was lots of skill, enthusiasm and teamwork on display from all the girls. A fantastic run-out and great preparation as we look forward to our upcoming matches in September.
U13
In perfect conditions on Sunday 23rd August our U13s took part in the annual Pauline Downey Tournament.
We played 3 group games against Nemo, Douglas & Ballygarvan. We Won 2, drew 1. After finishing level on points with Douglas, there was a coin toss to see which team from which group played each other in the cup semi final.
We played Erin’s Own and after beating them by a point made it through to the final to play Na Piarsaighs. We drew level at the end of normal play time. The game was fast paced and very physical. For a finish we were beaten by 1 score at the end of extra time. Our girls fought till the last minute and we are beyond proud of them, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be our day today.

Thanks to Douglas for inviting us to an excellently run tournament. Thanks to the refs and thanks for our U12 girls whom without we wouldn’t have a team.
U15
Our U15s travelled away to The Glen for a tough and competitive challenge game, with Midleton coming out on top after a hard-fought battle. A great team effort from start to finish. A special mention to our four U14 players Abi, Anna, Eve and Aoife, who stepped up and played brilliantly.
Well done to Ruby, who captained on the night.A big thank you to The Glen for hosting us and for a great game.
Cork U15
Huge congratulations to Aoibhinn Murphy who represented Cork in the Division 1 U15 National Blitz playing every minute of the 4 games. Wins in the group stage against Wexford, Dublin and Clare and beating Tipperary in the final. Fantastic achievement and well done to Aoibhinn and all the Cork team and coaches.
