Laochra Aeracha 2-07

Glenville’s Junior footballers produced an excellent team performance to record an impressive victory over Laochra Aeracha in the Frank Halbert Cup.

Played in persistent rain, the difficult conditions demanded plenty of hard work and commitment from both teams. Glenville adapted particularly well, moving the ball effectively and producing some excellent passages of football over the course of the contest.

This was very much a collective effort, with every member of the Glenville panel making a valuable contribution. Experienced Stephen Ryan gave the team a dependable presence, while veteran  Michael “Silage” Murphy, Fionn Fitzgerald, youthful Will Sheehy and Dylan McCarthy all worked tirelessly and played their part in a strong defensive display.

Pierce Maloney and Michael Murphy combined their defensive duties with a point apiece, while the evergreen Denis Buttimer also played very well and got forward to add his name to the scoresheet. Rob McKenna delivered a powerful performance and contributed two fine points to Glenville’s total.

Shane O’Callaghan and Conor Gowen worked hard throughout and were rewarded with a point each. Adam Hennessey also impressed, registering two points during a very good personal performance.

Eoin Fitzgerald led the scoring with an excellent contribution of 1-4. His goal was one of the highlights of the game and came following a tremendous assist from substitute John O’Connor, whose delivery created the opening for Fitzgerald to finish.

Brothers Moss and Liam Keane both produced excellent performances and raised green flags for Glenville.

Moss finished with 1-0, while Liam added a point to his goal to complete a contribution of 1-1.

The substitutes also played an important role. Conor McHugh and the ageless  Paddy O’Sullivan made a strong impact after their introduction, scoring two points apiece, while John O’Connor’s tremendous assist created Eoin Fitzgerald’s goal. Brian Cosgrove also made a valuable contribution on his return from injury, producing a fine performance which showed that age is no barrier.

The wide spread of scorers, with 11 different players contributing to the final total of 3-18, reflected the quality of Glenville’s overall team performance. Every player worked hard, supported one another and played their part in securing a well-deserved victory.

Credit must also go to Laochra Aeracha, who continued to compete throughout and contributed to a sporting contest despite the challenging conditions.

Thanks to Laochra Aeracha for the game and to the referee for officiating. The club would also like to thank everyone who came out to support the team in the rain. Their support was greatly appreciated by the players and management.

Under-10 Footballers Enjoy Three Games Against Aghada

Glenville’s under-10 footballers were in action against Aghada on Saturday, with the clubs playing three very enjoyable and competitive games.

The young Glenville players produced some excellent football across all three matches, displaying great teamwork, determination and skill. There was plenty of good passing, strong defending and some excellent scores, with every player making an important contribution.

It was particularly encouraging to see the players supporting one another and continuing to put into practice the skills they have been developing at training. All three games were played in a sporting spirit and provided valuable experience for everyone involved.

Well done to all the Glenville players for their effort and enthusiasm. Thanks to Aghada for three excellent games, to the coaches and referees for facilitating them, and to the families who came along to support the teams.

Cork Masters Reach Final

Congratulations to Glenville’s Paudie Cahill and Cliona Cotter, and to the Cork Masters team, following their 1-14 to 1-08 victory over London.

A great achievement by everyone involved, and we wish Paudie, Cliona and the entire Cork team the very best of luck in the final.

The Great Glenville Run Returns

Watergrasshill Athletic Club and Glenville GAA will once again join forces to host the Great Glenville Run on Sunday, November 22.

The four-mile road race will begin at 11.30am and will be chip-timed, with the course accurately measured by Jones Counter. An AAI permit has also been granted.

Entry costs €17.50, with individual and category prizes on offer. Whether you are an experienced runner chasing a fast time or simply looking to enjoy a local road race, we would be delighted to see you taking part.

The Great Glenville Run is always a fantastic day for the local community, bringing runners, walkers, volunteers and supporters together for a very enjoyable occasion.
