Junior A Football Championship Round 2: Match Report – Midleton 0-11 V Carrigtwohill 0-11
Our Junior A footballers faced Carrigtwohill in the second round of the Junior A Championship in Ballinacurra on Friday, August 14th. Following an impressive first-round victory over Lisgoold, our footballers were looking forward to the challenge of taking on a strong Carrigtwohill side, who had defeated Aghada in their opening fixture.
Playing with the benefit of the evening breeze in the first half, Midleton settled into a competitive contest from the throw-in. Early exchanges were end-to-end, with both teams creating scoring opportunities. Cain Lambe, Calum O'Brien and Tadhg Bohan were particularly prominent in attack, with Calum opening Midleton's account with a well-taken 1-pointer.
Evan McGrath then made a significant impact, striking an excellent two-pointer before quickly adding another point from play. At the other end of the field, Midleton's defence was outstanding throughout the half. The hardworking full-back line of Cian Crowley, Alan Power and Darragh Codd provided a solid foundation, while Aaron Mulcahy, Matt McSweeney and Daragh Egan ensured that Carrigtwohill had to work hard for every scoring opportunity.
Midleton finished the half strongly, with Seán McSharry contributing two points and Calum O'Brien adding his second point of the game.

The second half began with Midleton's midfield once again proving to be a key strength. Tadhg O'Leary-Hayes and Bríon Saunderson controlled possession for long periods and have been magnificent throughout our two championship games, making a huge contribution to the high standard of Midleton's play. Carrig were making headway with a few scores but Midleton continued to battle hard, with scores from Evan McGrath, Mark Daly and Tadhg Bohan keeping us in touch. Midway through the half, Jack Fitzgerald and David Cremin were introduced in place of Tadhg and Calum, both of whom had worked tirelessly and given everything for the team. With just two minutes remaining, we found ourselves trailing by three points. Showing tremendous character and determination, our boys battled back and reduced the deficit to just a single point as the game entered its closing stages.
With time almost up, a superb move involving David Cremin, Jack Fitzgerald and Evan McGrath created one final opportunity. The move ended with Evan being fouled, earning Midleton a crucial free.
Seán McSharry, who finished the game with 4-points, stepped up and calmly converted the free, ensuring the game finished all square and securing a well-deserved draw for Midleton.

We travelled to Rathcormac on Monday evening for our P1 hurling semifinal against Ballyhea/ Milford. On a very gusty evening we played with the elements in the first half. While we weren’t playing under par we definitely left scores behind us in that first period and it was pretty much tit for tat throughout. On the resumption our lads were putting in a ferocious effort but the rub of the green was just not going our way. They got the crucial green flag midway through the half and that gave them a cushion. The lads tried so hard to reel our opponents in but we never got a run on them and they responded to each of our scores. We were so close a number of times to getting the goal we needed but the ball just didn’t run our way. In the end the lads, and the large Midleton crowd in attendance were disappointed with a 1-18 to 17 points loss. Great credit must be given to all the squad entirely for the efforts shown, the commitment to training and the attitude shown all year. While we are all disappointed as a group it is obvious that all the lads have improved greatly all year and definitely left it all out on the pitch. Thanks to everyone involved throughout the year. Despite our disappointment we have to congratulate Ballyhea/ Milford in reaching the P1 final in their first year up, they were understandably thrilled with the win but were also very gracious in their victory. They go on to play Ballinora in what must be a novel pairing in the top grade.
On Thursday last we played our 3rd Division 4 football game against Glenville in Park South. The lads started fantastically and had 8 points to their 1 after 10 minutes. But unfortunately our grip on the game slipped in the 3rd quarter and they started playing and scoring, goals in particular. We ended up despite some great performances losing on a score line of 5-9 to 17pts. While this was a disappointing loss scoring 17 points was impressive and all the lads played well.

Well done to our u13 girls who finished off their 10 week football pdp with a County Blitz in Clonakilty. Great work girls fantastic to represent the Club and East Cork.
Intermediate Championship

Premier Junior ChampionshipTracton V Midleton Wed Aug 19th in Minane Bridge

Our Premier Junior Camogie team got their championship off to a great start with a hard fought win in Tracton on Wednesday, 19th Aug. This was a proper championship match right from the start. Midleton started well and raced into a 5 point to 1 lead early on , Faye Dunlea , Vivienne Gleeson and Sadhbh Beausang all on the scoresheet . Tracton fought back well though and at the break Midleton led 7 points to 5 . A brilliant save by Jill Connaughton kept the Midleton goal intact and 2 great saves by the Tracton net minder from Sarah Goulding and Sadhbh Beausang ensured no green flags were raised . Midleton again started well in the 2nd half and 2 more points from Vivenne pushed us out to a 9 to 6 lead. Tracton came again though and with a fortuitous goal they took a 1 point lead. Again Midleton upped their game and brilliant points from Sarah Goulding(2) , Lucy Murphy and Lucy Wallace pushed us 2 points clear . In the fast failing light Tracton reduced it to a 1 score game but a late free, 7 minutes into Injury time, saw Midleton win a great game by 2 points. Jill in goals and all the defenders played really well , and with scores hard to come by the fact we had 6 different scorers from play augurs well for this team as we move on to our next opponent , Youghal in Midleton on Wed Aug 26th.
