Castlemartyr 0-10 Erin's Own 1-4
After Saturday's narrow win over Erin's Own, Castlemartyr know that if they were to win their final group game against Dungourney, a direct passage to the semi finals will be guaranteed in this year's Michael O'Connor Motor Factors East Cork JAFC. However, a draw would be sufficient for Dungounrey to top the group as they have a superior points difference to the reds. This would see both teams finish on five points.
However, at this stage we are ensured of a place in the knockout stages - regardless of the outcome of that final group game on the second weekend of September.
Saturday's game in Shanagarry never caught fire, with both sides going through a barren spell without a score and although we looked the better team throughout the sixty minutes, it took a great late save by Conor Whyte to deny the Caherlag men a share of the spoils.
In summary an early goal conceded saw us drift into an early 1-2 to 0-3 deficit inside the opening ten minutes. However, Erin's Own failed to score again until the 52nd minute at which stage we held an advantage of 0-8 to 1-3. After a bright start to the second half when aided by the breeze, Castlemartyr had their own troubles finding the range, spanning 28 minutes without raising a flag before Jack McGann's late two pointer in stoppage time gave us a three point lead.
In between, despite having plenty of possession, some wrong options and wayward shooting kept the result very much in doubt. This all came on the back of Mike Kelly's early second half two pointer and Jack McGann's 45 meter free, which looked to have set the tone for a more productive second thirty minutes. It wasn't to be and whilst there is a great sense of satisfaction in winning back to back to championship games and ensuring early qualification, there is certainly scope for improvement in a number of areas, following a contest that saw both sides finish with 14 players.

Junior 'C Championship
Castlemartyr 0-9 Carrigtwohill 3-15
Castlemartyr ran into a strong Carrigtwohill team at Paddy Walsh Memorial Park on Sunday morning, with the visitors seizing early control - 4 points up inside 10 minutes, they went on to lead by
1-11 to 0-6 at the break and added a second goal soon after the resumption. to push into a very strong position. The visitors then added a third goal in the closing stages. Depsite good outings by Jack Clifford and the returning Oisin Cantwell in defence along with Dáire Coughlan and Rory Lynch further forward, the task looked beyond the reds long before the last whistle.
.With the group winners and just one runner up to stay in contention in the knockout stages, the outlook does not look positive

Hurling Weekend
So a big hurling weekend now awaits - with both our teams in action.
On Saturday Cloyne will provide the opposition in the Co Op Superstores Premier Intermediate Championship in Carrigtwohill - 7.30pm. Both teams are in the softer seats after their first first day wins, but will be very anxious to follow up with a second brace of points.
Cloyne have shown their worth in recent times - winning the Division 5 League and demonstrating their championship pedigree by rowing in Dungourney's impressive lead in the rematch three weeks ago. Our team will obviously have to reproduce their first round level and more to get the desired result in what is expected to be another close game in this group. Best wishes to the players and management.
Remember, Lisgoold v Dungounrey forms the first part of the double header at 5.30pm .
Junior B Championship
It's back to Carrigtwohill on Sunday morning for our opening game in the very competitive divisional Junior 'B championship, where Lisgoold are our opponents at 11.30am.. They had an excellent win over Midleton the first day out and will go into the game in a good place. Castlemartyr have prepared well under the guidance of Cha O'Neiil, Fergus Lynch and John Whyte - here's hoping we get off to a winning start.
Hosting Senior Game
Later on Sunday at 2pm, Paddy Walsh Memorial Park will host the Senior 'A' match between Na Piarsaigh and Killeagh. A big crowd is set to attend this game, with both sides coming in on the back of solid first round wins. Local spectators are asked to park in the village area and walk to the picture if possible.
