RED FM COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 1 FINAL 10/07/2026

MIDLETON 2-16 SARSFIELDS 2-17

After nine straight wins from nine games in the county hurling league, our senior hurlers tasted their first defeat of the season on Friday night when they went down by a single point to Sarsfields in the league final in front of a big crowd on a glorious evening in Carrigtwohill.

After exchanged early points from Killian McDermott and Barry O’Flynn, Sarsfields then struck for two goals in very quick succession to see us trail by 2-1 to 0-1 inside four minutes.

Five points from Conor Lehane (four from frees) and one from Mikey Finn saw us trail by four at the break (2-8 to 0-7).

We got off to a great start to the second-half when sideline dissent by Sarsfields saw our free being brought forward to the 20 metre line and Conor Lehane made no mistake in burying the ball to the net to put us right back in this game.

Two points from Davy Cremin, six from Conor Lehane and one from McDermott kept us in touch but when we trailed by six, 2-15 to 1-12, with only a few minutes to play it looked a lost cause but a late cracker of a goal from Conor Lehane reduced the gap to a single point in stoppage time, after Davy Cremin had been dismissed on a straight red card, but there was no time for an equaliser as the men from Riverstown held out to lift the league title for the fourth year in a row.

Our attention now turns to the championship. We begin our campaign on Friday, July 31 at 7.30pm in Pairc Ui Rinn against St. Finbarrs. Before we play Newcestown (again in Pairc Ui Rinn) on August 22 and we finish our group games against Bride Rovers in Caherlag on Sunday, September 6.

Scorers: Midleton: Conor Lehane 2-11 (1-8 frees), Killian McDermott, Davy Cremin 0-2 each, Mikey Finn 0-1.

MIDLETON: Bríon Saunderson; Luke Dineen, Tadhg O’Leary Hayes, Tom Dunlea; Evan McGrath, Killian Burke, Sean O’Sullivan; Mikey Finn, Cormac Walsh; Davy Cremin, Alex Quirke, Killian McDermott; Pa White, Conor Lehane, Ross O’Regan. Facilities

A massive thank you to our Senior & Intermediate hurlers for rolling up their sleeves and tackling two jobs that definitely weren't in the training plan !

The pitch perimeter is looking a million dollars after the paint job, and the mountain of blocks has mysteriously disappeared thanks to ye.

Who knew ye were as handy with a paintbrush and wheelbarrow as ye are with a hurley?

Your hard work is hugely appreciated. The club is lucky to have a bunch who'll graft on and off the pitch.

Thanks again, lads and to Pat, Donie and Frank for the supplies !

Many thanks to Terence McCarthy and all at Aeseal who are our current featured Friend of the Magpies. Your continued support is very much appreciated.

Ladies Football

U16 14/07/2026

Well done to our U16 ladies who overcame a strong Inch Rovers side on Tuesday eveining in a very competitive game in Park South. Great credit is due to both teams who played some great football in very warm conditions.

Minor 16/07/2026

Our Minor Ladies played another game in their league campaign against St Catherines on Thursday evening. It was certainly a game of two halves. Having found ourselves on the back foot in the early stages the girls regrouped at half time and started the second half with more determination and suddenly we clawed our way back into the game. We are delighted with the performance despite having no experienced goal keeper and missing a number of girls due to holidays. We came within 4 points of our opponents. A big thanks to all those who travelled especially our U16 players that stepped up.
