Junior Footballers End League Campaign with Spirited Second-Half Fightback

Glenville's Junior Footballers brought their ROCA Sports East Cork Junior Football League campaign to a close on Thursday evening, travelling to Carrigtwohill where they were defeated by 4-15 to 1-15.

The home side made the brighter start and took control of the opening half, making the most of their scoring chances to establish a 2-7 to 0-4 advantage by the interval. Glenville found themselves with plenty of work to do but refused to let the game slip away.

The visitors emerged for the second half with renewed determination and produced a much-improved display. They raised the intensity around the field, worked tirelessly for one another and played some excellent football, moving the ball with greater pace and purpose. Their efforts were rewarded with some fine scores as they matched Carrigtwohill for long periods and showed exactly what they are capable of.

The character shown by the players after the break was particularly encouraging. Despite the deficit, they continued to battle for every ball, never dropped their heads and fought until the final whistle. Their work rate, commitment and resilience ensured they finished the league campaign on a positive note, even if the final result did not reflect the quality of their second-half performance.

The match also provided valuable game time ahead of the championship, with a number of players making important contributions throughout the evening. There were plenty of encouraging signs for the management team to take from the performance as preparations now turn towards the next phase of the season.

While the league campaign ends in defeat, Glenville can take confidence from the spirit and determination shown, particularly in the second half. Everyone in the club wishes the players and management the very best as attention now switches to the championship, where they will be hoping to build on the positives from this performance.

U7 Footballers Impress at Lisgoold Blitz

Glenville's U7 footballers enjoyed another fantastic morning of football when they travelled to Lisgoold for a well-organised blitz.

The young Glenville players showcased their ever-improving skills throughout a series of enjoyable games, with excellent teamwork, passing, shooting and scoring all on display. The progress being made by the group continues to be evident, with every player contributing and playing with great enthusiasm and confidence.

As always at this age, the emphasis was on participation, enjoyment and developing friendships, and the players embraced the occasion with great energy and sportsmanship from start to finish.

A special word of thanks goes to the U6 players who stepped up to join the squad. They slotted in seamlessly and played their part in a very successful morning for the club.

Well done to all the players on their excellent efforts, and thank you to Lisgoold for hosting a superb blitz. Thanks also to the coaches, mentors and parents whose continued support and encouragement make mornings like these possible.

U12 Footballers Produce Outstanding Display Despite Narrow Defeat

Glenville's U12 footballers produced one of their best performances of the season on Sunday morning but were left wondering what might have been after a narrow defeat to St. Nick's on a scoreline of 5-7 to 2-12.

Played in scorching conditions, the match was a superb advertisement for juvenile football, with both teams serving up an entertaining, high-quality contest from start to finish. Glenville matched their hosts throughout with excellent teamwork, skill and determination, moving the ball with pace and creating numerous scoring opportunities.

The Glenville forwards caused constant problems for the St. Nick's defence, but an outstanding display from the home goalkeeper proved decisive. A string of excellent saves denied Glenville on several occasions, and on another day those chances could easily have swung the result in their favour.

Despite the disappointment of the final whistle, there were positives all over the field. Every player worked tirelessly, supported one another and never gave up, showing tremendous commitment and resilience in extremely challenging conditions. The standard of football on display reflected the hard work the squad continues to put in at training.

The management team can take great encouragement from the performance, which demonstrated the progress being made by this talented group of players.

A sincere thank you to all the parents who travelled to support the team, to St. Nick's for their warm hospitality, and to the referee for allowing the game to flow and ensuring it remained an enjoyable contest for everyone involved.

While the result didn't go Glenville's way, the performance certainly did, and the players can be immensely proud of their efforts.

U15 Footballers Show Great Spirit in Final League Outing

Glenville's U15 footballers travelled to Mahon on Friday evening for their final league game of this phase, where they were defeated by St. Michael's on a scoreline of 4-19 to 4-10.

Despite the result, it was an entertaining and open game, with both sides adopting an attacking approach from the opening whistle. The match was played at a high tempo throughout, with plenty of excellent football and some fine scores from both teams.

Glenville matched their opponents for long periods, playing with great determination and teamwork. The players moved the ball well, created some excellent scoring opportunities and took a number of superb scores, while continuing to battle hard in every area of the field.

To their credit, the Glenville lads never let their heads drop and fought until the very end, showing the commitment, resilience and work rate that have been hallmarks of their performances throughout the league campaign.

While the result didn't go their way, there were many positives to take from the performance, and the players can be proud of the effort they produced in what was their final league fixture of this phase.

Well done to all the players and management for their dedication and commitment throughout the league, and best wishes as they prepare for the next stage of the season.
