Killeagh GAA Club Notes June 28th 2026

CLCG Cilliath, Nuacht an Chlub, Meitheamh 28, 2026

CONGRATULATIONS!

We begin this week with two good news stories from our underage teams – our Under 15 Munster Féile winners and our Under 12 stars who brought glory in the past week at home and away. Seo iad na scéalta deasa!

FANTASTIC FÉÍLE!

Killeagh U-15s crowned Regional John West Féile Champions

Our fabulous fifteens, aka Féile 2026 heroes, brought home the bacon from the impressive Staker Wallace GAA Grounds in Co. Limerick last weekend. Perhaps better known as the GAA club beside the home of a certain JP McMansus and Martinstown Stud, our hosts looked after all the visiting teams impeccably, with super efficiency throughout the day. In our opening game, we overcame our hosts Coshlea Gaels  (an amalgamation of Staker Wallace and Effin) by 1-10 to 0-07 and followed up with a 2-05 to 0-05 win over Silvermines from Tipperary. This qualified us for the semi-final where another Limerick club, Killeedy-Tournafulla, awaited us. We managed to win a close contest her by 0-08 to 0-04 and then it was Silvermines once more in the final. A gripping contest that ebbed and flowed saw both teams finish level after both normal time and extra time (Killeagh 1-10, Silvermines 2-07). No penalty shoot-out here thankfully, as per Féile National rules, both teams are declared winners, and we won the toss to keep the cup for the first six months. After two hours of savage hurling in savage heat, where every Killeagh player gave their all, it was a fitting reward. For all the many travelling supporters on the day, they witnessed some fantastic Killeagh scores, unbelievable desire and workrate from all, exceptional saves, blocks, high fielding and pinpoint passes. While there were a number of outstanding individual performances, the true heroes of this year’s Féile were the entire panel. From their first group game in East Cork, on to winning the County and then the Regional / National title, this group has represented the club in the best manner possible over the past two seasons. They deserve every plaudit that has been bestowed on them in this past week. On the way home, hungry boys and coaches stopped off in The Hunter’s Rest in Mitchelstown before returning home in glory. Many thanks to all involved, and to everyone who supported our “Guess The Score” fundraiser which ensured that the boys wanted for nothing on the day. Cilliath Abú!!

Panel: Padraig Murphy, Cian Fitzgerald, Lee Barry, Tomás Rickard Farquhar, Colm O’Regan, Dillon McCarthy, Charlie O’Mahony, Eolann Deane, Ciarán McGrath, Luke Fitzgerald, Alex Kirby, Liam Óg Ahern, Ciarán Barry, Jay Geary, Eoghan Murphy, Kevin Kearney, Dean Foley, Sean Curran, Mikey Curran, Harry Fogarty, Finn Murphy.

TERRIFIC TWELVES!

Killeagh U12 Hurlers Crowned Tournament Champions on Home Soil

Killeagh GAA Club hosted a fantastic U12 hurling blitz on Sunday June 14th welcoming teams from Kilworth, Fr. O’Neills, St. Colman’s, Blackrock and Aghada for an excellent day of hurling in glorious summer conditions. Each team played two group games, with Killeagh facing Aghada and Kilworth. The home side produced two impressive performances to win both matches and secure their place in the semi-final.

In the last four, Killeagh met near neighbours Fr. O’Neills. The lads continued their fine form, delivering a strong display to earn a place in the final. The final saw Killeagh take on St. Colman’s in a thrilling and closely contested encounter. Captained by Tomas McGrath, Killeagh showed great determination, teamwork and skill throughout. In an exciting finish, the home side emerged victorious on a scoreline of 1-06 to 1-02, claiming the tournament title to the delight of the large home support.

Elsewhere, Blackrock and Aghada, who finished third in their respective groups, faced off in a playoff game and provided another competitive encounter. The Shield Final also delivered plenty of excitement, with Fr. O’Neills overcoming Kilworth to claim the shield honours.

It was a very impressive performance from the Killeagh boys throughout the day, with every player making a valuable contribution to the team’s success. Overall, it was a brilliant day of hurling, with Páirc Ui Chinnéide looking at its finest in the summer sunshine. The club grounds were a hive of activity throughout the day, showcasing the very best of underage hurling. Special congratulations are due to the Killeagh players and their management team of Christine Kelly, Conor Cronin, Stephen McNulty and Kenneth Walsh, whose hard work and dedication were rewarded with a memorable tournament victory on home soil.

A sincere word of thanks must also go to the parents of the Killeagh players, whose tremendous efforts behind the scenes helped make the day such a success. From organising and catering to ensuring all visiting teams, mentors and supporters were well looked after throughout the day, their contribution was invaluable and greatly appreciated by everyone in attendance.

Finally, Killeagh GAA Club would like to extend sincere thanks to WALLS for their generous sponsorship of the tournament. Their support helped make the event possible and contributed to a memorable day for all the young players, mentors, families and supporters involved. Cilliath Abú arís!

Here are the match reports from our two adult hurling teams in action this week.

RED FM DIVISON 1 HURLING LEAGUE Killeagh 3-19, Glen Rovers 4-25 in Killeagh on Thursday June 25th at 1930 hrs

Our Division 1 hurling campaign for 2026 came to an end at home in sun-kissed Páric Uí Chinnéide on Thursday evening last where patrons were treated to an exciting game of hurling with no fewer than 51 scores (22 for us, 29 for our visitors) and 22 wides (13 for us, 9 for the Glen). It was also a match played in the best spirit, with Willie Wallis in control and well up with the play from start to finish. The new dissent rules definitely appear to have their desired effect even at this early stage, with everyone inside the white line and patrolling the sidelines much better disposed to good behaviour! Glen stormed into an early lead, with 0-08 on the scoreboard by the 12th minute to our 0-03, at which point they struck their opening wide. Eoghan Keniry had scored our opening two points, while cúl báire Fionn Murphy added a monster 100 metre score on 11 minutes. Our second quarter was much better, with a Dinny Walsh point from play, four frees from Dylan McCarthy, and an excellent penalty struck by Ryan McCarthy on 25 minutes after he had been upended in the parallelogram. Trailing by 0-15 to 1-08 ag leath am, Glen scored first before we got four on the bounce (Dylan with one free and one from play, Ryan and Eoghan) to trail by just one on 35 minutes (0-16 to 1-12). Then Glen scored their opening goal and we never managed to close the gap for the remainder of the game. Andrew Leahy (2), Dylan McCarthy (2), Sean Walsh, Colm Leahy and another free from Dylan saw us trail by 1-19 to 3-24, with the Glen’s two goals on 48 and 49 minutes puncturing our comeback attempts. The final three minutes saw three goals, the first of which saw a great team move begin with input from the three 19-year olds (Fionn, debutant Oran Cunningham, the seventh first cousin to feature on the night, and Cian O’Riordan) all the way up the right wing until Ryan finished to the net, while Dylan added another goal in the final play. All in all, this was one of our better performances in the league, giving hope for the coming weeks as we prepare for F-Day against Fermoy in Lisgoold on August 1st.

Team: Fionn Murphy, Darragh O’Brien, Sean Long, Cathal Fitzgibbon, Brendan Delaney, Gary Leahy, Ciaran Leahy, Andrew Walsh, John Ogbebor, Dylan McCarthy, Pa O’Brien, Andrew Leahy, Dinny Walsh, Ryan McCarthy, Dinny Walsh, Cian O’Riordan, Robbie Treacy, Sean Walsh, Colm Leahy, Richie Long, George Walsh, Oran Cunningham.

RED FM DIVISON 7 HURLING LEAGUE Killeagh 3-12, Ballinora 2-19 in Killeagh on Sunday June 28th at 1130 hrs

The crazy Division 7 league drew to a close on Sunday morning with a home defeat to Ballinora in an exciting game. Before this weekend’s fixtures, there was a miniscule chance that we could finish second and get promoted. Having struggled to get going in this league early doors, that would have been a remarkable achievement. However, two opening losses were bookended by two closing losses which ridiculously saw us fall to eighth position in the table, in spite of having 9 points, just one win away from fourth place. The match itself saw us lead at half time by 2-06 to 1-06, with our goals coming from Dara Motherway and Sean Walsh in the closing five minutes, adding to Andy Leahy’s four points from frees and one point each for Richie Long and Dinny Walsh. Our visitors were much more efficient than we were in the second half, adding 1-13 to their tally while we could only match their first half score of 1-06, with Dara goaling again, and two points each from Richie and Andy, along with one each from Cian O’Riordan and Dinny Walsh. So we maintain our Division 7 status for 2027, with journeys to Kinsale and Mayfield also a possibility next year.

Team: Philip O’Neill, Aidan Morrison, Mikey Fitzgerald, Pierce Geary, Robbie Treacy, Cian O’Riordan, Andy Walsh, John Ogbebor, Dinny Walsh, Sean Walsh, Andy Leahy, Kieran Lane, Richie Long, Dara Motherway, Michael O’Donovan, Killian Treacy, Diarmuid Buckley, Dylan Coleman, Dermot Motherway.
