Bride Rovers Notes (11th Jun)

BRIDE ROVERS NOTES.
WELL DONE TERRY.   Truly Bride Rovers stalwart Terry Broderick is a real Ironman -and if we ever needed proof, last week was it! Terry is one of the best players that ever donned the Green, White and Gold jersey of Bride Rovers. In order to honour his late dad, Pat Broderick, and to thank the amazing teams at Mercy Hospital Foundation, Marymount Hospice, and the Irish Cancer Society for their support during his dad’s cancer journey, Terry set himself a week long challenge one could only describe as mind-boggling.  From Tuesday until Saturday Terry swam, cycled and ran each day! His feat comprised  completing the following each day over 5 days; a 1.2-mile (1.9 km) swim followed by a 56-mile (90 km) bike ride, and then  a 13.1 mile (21.1 km) run. The Broderick family have been GAA and Community activists always and this was well demonstrated last week as so many came out to support Terry. He commenced early on Tuesday morning and  finished in Pairc na Bride at 3 clock on Saturday when he and his fellow runners got a fantastic  welcome back to the Bride Rovers HQ. It was an emotional occasion for Terry and his family and friends. The fund-raising goal surpassed 75% of the target after just 3 day which was stunning. The Fund will remain open for another week or so - please consider sharing the Link or donating if you can help reach more people who might want to support this inspiring challenge.  Just go to https://gofund.me/2967f1da4
Terry was helped greatly by the Fermoy based Blackwater Triathlon Club who participated in all the events. Saturday was very special with many young and not so young Rovers people joining Terry in the run at St Colman’s Pitch and on the ‘final leg’ back to Rathcormac.  Thanks to everyone who supported this great Challenge- those who participated, donated and helped with catering or in any way. Pat Broderick was a great Bride Rovers man and Terry was rightly proud to help those who helped the Broderick family in their hour of need. Well done Terry.
MACKEY CUP GOES’HOME’.
Cork will be hoping if they reach this years All Ireland Hurling final ‘will be a case of third time lucky! To date this year the Shannon-siders have beaten us in the League and Munster Finals. Last Sunday at a misty Pairc Ui Chaoimh Cork led for 69 minutes but Limerick finished strongest to win by a single point. As Ben O Connor said later ‘Those competitions are done and dusted now’ so they are and just 6 teams remain in contention for the All Ireland. Cork play Offaly wit the winners meeting Galwy. On the other side Clare meet Dublin- the winners of that joust will take on Limerick. It’s all to play for. Great to see Brian and Eoin Roche on the panel.
CUL CAMP 2026.  Our annual Juvenile Club Cul camp for 2026 will be held from July 27th  to July 31st. With over 200 registered it will be a major event which takes huge planning and preparation. Any Club member who might be able to help with stewarding, traffic control and car-parking please contact Gary Clerkin or Brendan Lyons.
CORK MINOR HURLERS PLAY SEMI.
The Cork Minor Hurlers including our own Cathal Barry travel to the Gaelic Grounds on the Ennis Road in Limerick next Saturday to play the All Ireland semi final. At 2 o clock Cork face Tipperary, the Munster Champions. When the sides met in Thurles on April 17th the home side won well, by 2 17 to 0 16 so this game is a huge challenge for Cork -go for it lads.  Limerick play Galway in Ennis in the second semifinal.
DEATH OF CORK STARS. Just two weeks ago one of Cork’s great footballers, Johnny Carroll of the Dohenys Club in Dunmanway passed away. Johnny was on the Cork football team that lost the 1967 All Ireland Final to Meath. Captain of that Cork team that September Sunday was a young man from the Nick’s Club in Blackpool -Denis Coughlan. He went n to become one of Cork’s greatest ever dual players -sadly Denis passed away last weekend. He was an absolute stylist in both codes with his Clubs, County and Province. A gentleman on and off the field he won Senior Hurling medals in 1970, ‘76,’77 and ‘78 and a football medal in 1973. We offer our sincere sympathy to the Carroll and Coughlan families.
LEAGUE UPDATE. To date we’ve gone well in all our League Competitions. The Senior Hurlers have 2 games to play v Ballincollig, next Sunday and v Newcestown on June 27th. Two wins would probably guarantee us a Div 2 league final place -but it’s very tight at the top. Our Junior Hurlers narrowly missed out on a League Final spot when we lost to Sars by a single point. Our third team playing in JHL Div 4 in East Cork play Midleton next Sunday -a win here could see us in the League Final. In Football we take part in Div 3 of the East Cork JFL. We have qualified for the league Final v Aghada with a game to spare. This Final is pencilled in for Friday June the 3rd.
Cork MINOR FOOTBALLERS ADVANCE.
Well done to our own Micheál Walsh and Vincent Cronin (selector) with the Cork Minor Footballers on their display last Saturday . Following a comprehensive win over Meath, they will now face Derry in the All-Ireland semi-final in a fortnights time. Derry beat  Galway by 3 17 to 0 19 while  the Rebels beat the Royals  3 19 to 1 12. So the semi finals are Cork v Derry and Tyrone v Kildare.
EAST CORK JFL DIV 3 v RUSSELL ROVERS. Last Friday night was cold night with torrential rain and those were the conditions when our Footballers met Russell Rovers in a JFL tie at Pairc na Bride. It was a low scoring first half as we led by just 4 points to 3 -our scores came from Shane O Dowd 2, Nicky Kelleher and Liam Forde.  WE took over in the second half and two great early points from Ronan O Riordan set us on the way.  Shane O Dowd celebrated his18th birthday in style adding a great goal and a point to finish with 1 4. Liam Forde got our final white flag to see us win by 1 8 to 0 3. Eam; Ben Hogan, Cillian O Dowd, Jordan Mannix, Jake Tobin, Ronan Barry, Liam Collins, Cillian O Sullivan,  Darragh O Sullivan, John O Sullivan, Darragh O Farrell, Liam Forde, Nicky Kellehe, Ronan O Riordan, Shane O Dowd  Frank O Flynn. WE were down to play Aghada in our last Group game but with both teams already through to the Division 3 League Final this game needn’t be played. We are fixed to meet Aghada in the Div 3 Final on  Friday July 3rd.

REBEL OG UNDER 14 HURLING (Caherlag) Bride Rovers secured a hard-earned one-point victory over Erin's Own in an exciting Premier 2 Hurling Championship clash on Wednesday evening. In a game that ebbed and flowed throughout, Rovers showed huge resilience and determination to come from behind and claim a valuable championship win.
The hosts made the brighter start and struck for an early goal inside the opening two minutes. Erin's Own continued to apply pressure during the early stages, but Rovers gradually settled into the contest. Dara Murphy responded with an excellent goal from play, while Adam Hackett's accuracy from placed balls kept the Rovers firmly in touch. A key moment arrived midway through the first half when Adam converted a free to the net. Erin's Own continued to threaten and they edged into a narrow 1-7 to 2-3 lead at the interval.
The second half was every bit as competitive as the first. Erin's Own continued to keep the scoreboard moving, but Rovers began to gain a foothold around the middle third and showed great composure in possession. Points from Conor Healy, Jack Fitzgerald, Tiarnán Lyons and Adam Hackett ensured the visitors remained in contention as the game entered the final quarter. As the game entered its closing stages, Rovers managed to edge in front through a series of well-taken scores, with Hackett continuing to punish any indiscipline from the opposition. Erin's Own pushed hard for a late equaliser, but the Rovers defence and goalkeeper Noah Collins stood firm under pressure and saw out the final minutes to secure a deserved 2-10 to 1-12 victory. It was a performance that demonstrated the character of this Bride Rovers group. After falling behind early, they responded superbly, showing composure, determination and no shortage of work rate to emerge victorious by the narrowest of margins.
Bride Rovers: Noah Collins, Scott Lynch, Dara Feeney, Cameron Hoare, Luke Fitzgerald, Alex McCarthy, Dennis Skillington, Jack Fitzgerald (0-1), Conor Healy (0-2), Matthew Finn, Adam Hackett (1-7), Tiarnán Lyons (0-1), Eoghan Croke, Dara Murphy (1-0), Thomas Hegarty, Ryan Hogan, Oisín Dorgan, Harry Fitzpatrick. Next up is a league game v Mallow on June 19th.
CLUB EXECUTIVE . We had a lengthy Club Executive Meeting on Monday night. In total around 33 items were up for discussion. Reports from all the Sub Committees were held. An IT meeting will be held shortly to update our communications. It was agreed that in future Items of Correspondence coming up for discussion will be emailed to Executive Members prior to the meeting.  Votes of sympathy were passed to the Lane family on the death of Sr. Mona Muphy, also to the Collins, Kenny, Cotter, Baylor, Manley and Hazelwood families on their recent bereavements. The next meeting was fixed for Monday July 6th.

TONY WALSH CUP 2026.  We had arranged the 2026 Final of the Tony Walsh cup for Sunday week June 21st with West Waterford side Fourmile water providing the opposition. With Cork playing Offaly that day we’ll have to rearrange the fixture -possibly on the evening of Saturday June the 20th.
FIRST AID COURSE. The Healthy Club Committee have organised a two-hour First Aid event for mentors involved with our teams in the GAA club and LGFA and Camogie club. This will take place on Saturday week  June 20th in the clubrooms. As team mentors are often the first people to respond when an injury or emergency occurs, it is important that each age group/team has at least two mentors trained in Sport First Aid to support the immediate needs of our players. The course typically costs between €40-€50 per participant but is being fully subsidised by the GAA, and LGFA and Camogie clubs. Please note that if the course is over-subscribed, the organisers will prioritise to ensure at least one mentor from each age group can attend. The closing date for registration is imminent. To cater for as many mentors as possible, two workshops have been organised for that day. You only need attend one -either the morning or afternoon session. To register for the AM Session - 9.30am to 11.30am, contact the lead mentor for your team/your child's team or a club officer to register for the PM Session - 12pm to 2pm, contact the lead mentor for your team/your child's team or a club officer. At Monday night’s Executive meeting it was reported that 26 of the available 44 places were filled.
PAINTING. At Monday night’s meeting it was decided to paint the entrance walls to Pairc Ui Chaoimh, the yellow lines on the terracing and the gaol-posts. Cleanup night continues each Thursday night in the main pitch
