Junior Football Reports

Midleton 1-05 St Catherines 4-04

This game was played at Park South on Saturday, June 6th. Going into the match, we knew that a win would put us in pole position for promotion back to Division 1. St. Catherines have a very strong team, so we were aware this would be a significant challenge. We were able to call on several experienced players, along with several in their first season on the first team, so confidence was high. Unfortunately, we got off to a patchy start. Within the opening minutes, St. Catherines had raced into a 2-02 lead, putting us firmly on the back foot. However, this group of players never gives up and they responded well. Eoghan Collins, Colin Sunderland, Alan Power, and Darragh Codd were rock solid throughout. Aaron Mulcahy (captain), Adam O’Connor, and Evan McGrath began to take control in the middle of the field, while up front Cormac Walsh, Mark Daly, and Odhran Dennigan were all very prominent. By half time we had reduced their lead.

In the second half, we created plenty of chances. Padraig O’Farrell made a number of well-timed runs, while Ross O’Regan, Gavin Reddy, Luke Dineen, Jack Fitzgerald, and Calum O’Brien combined effectively on several occasions as we pushed to overturn the Catherines lead. Ben O’Neill, coming off the bench, scored our only goal.

Thanks to everyone who took part.

Midleton 2-04 Aghada 0-10

Our first team footballers played their final league game of 2026 last Monday evening against Aghada in Park South. Despite a busy weekend of fixtures, there was still an excellent turnout for the match. It was also great to welcome Brion Saunderson back into the squad. Park South once again looked splendid on Monday night, and it has become a welcome trend to hear opposition teams compliment the quality of our sand-based pitch.

We started strongly, with Tadgh Bohan winning the throw-in and driving straight into the heart of the Aghada defence, setting the tone for the first half. Eoghan Collins was solid in goal, while Alan Power and Darragh Codd were immense in the full-back line. Adam Fay and Darragh Egan provided great support, making numerous forward runs from defence. Up front, Cian Lambe, Calum O’Brien, and Eoin Higgins consistently troubled the Aghada defence.

Aghada’s goal led something of a charmed life, and we felt we should have been further ahead at half time. Our two goals came from penalties, both confidently dispatched, by Calum, to the back of the net with precision.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, with us creating plenty of chances. With a little more accuracy, we could have gone on to win the game. There were notable performances from Colin Sunderland and Adam O’Connor in defence, and Brion Saunderson in midfield. Up front, Jack Fitzgerald, Gavin Reddy, and Colin Dowling worked tirelessly throughout. The team also benefited from the introduction of Odhran Dennigan, Ben O’Neill, and Sean Cronin.

The eight league games have flown by. We finished joint fourth, just three points behind the winners.

Thanks to all the players who represented our club over the course of the campaign.

Roll on the championship!

Best Wishes

We would like to wish a speedy recovery to Tommy O Connell who picked up an injury in the Munster Final. We hope to see you back soon.

Cork Senior Hurlers will play Offaly in the All Ireland Senior Championship quarter final on Sunday June 21st at 3.30pm in Semple Stadium.

Juvenile

Fé13

The Midleton Fé13 hurlers travelled to Clonea GAA last Saturday morning for the annual Tommy Finn Tournament, with an early 10.15am throw-in marking the start of what proved to be a highly successful day for the young Magpies. The tournament featured eight teams divided into two groups, with Midleton drawn alongside Passage (Waterford), Ballybacon Grange (Tipperary) and Piltown (Kilkenny). The lads made an excellent start to the competition, producing a series of impressive performances throughout the group stages. Their opening game saw Midleton overcome Passage on a scoreline of 6-08 to 3-07 in an entertaining contest. Confidence continued to grow in the second match as Midleton delivered a dominant display against Piltown, recording a comprehensive 5-11 to 0-02 victory. The final group game against Ballybacon Grange was a much tighter affair, but the boys showed great determination and composure to secure a 3-06 to 0-10 win and finish top of their group.

Qualification for the Cup semi-final brought a meeting with Abbeyside of Waterford. This proved to be one of the games of the tournament, with both sides producing a fiercely competitive contest. Midleton showed tremendous character, converting two late frees to level the match and force extra time. In a titanic battle that went right to the wire, the Midleton lads edged through on a scoreline of 1-12 to 3-05. The Cup Final saw a rematch against Passage. Playing with the aid of a strong breeze in the opening half, Midleton produced some excellent hurling and built up a commanding lead, going in at the break ahead by 2-08 to 1-00. Passage mounted a spirited comeback in the second half, but Midleton defended resolutely and showed great resilience to hold on for a deserved victory, winning by 3-11 to 4-03.

Congratulations to all 22 Midleton players who wore the black and white with pride and represented their club so impressively throughout the day. A sincere thank you to Clonea GAA for the invitation and for hosting such a well-organised and enjoyable tournament. Thanks also to the coaches, parents and supporters who travelled and encouraged the team throughout the day. Magpies abú.

Men's Health Week

International Men's Health Week (MHW) always begins on the Monday before Father's Day and ends on Father's Day itself.  During 2026, it will run from Monday 15th until Sunday 21st June. For International Men’s health Week 2026, everyone in Ireland will be asked to try to improve the health of men and boys one step at a time and to make progress rather than seek perfection. The Men's Health Forum in Ireland (MHFI) coordinates activity on the island of Ireland and the GAA encourages clubs and communities to take part in this very important week. The Men’s Health Forum Ireland has several resources for clubs to use during the week and these can be found at https://mhfi.org/.
