Killeagh GAA Club Notes June 14th 2026

CLCG Cilliath, Nuacht an Chlub, Meitheamh 14, 2026

CONGRATULATIONS!

  1. To young Fitzy and his band of merry brothers AKA Kingfishr!, for blowing the Cork night sky open on Thursday and Friday night last! Great to see the proliferation of Killeagh jerseys – new and retro, and GAA jerseys of all sorts, dotted across the fawning ‘fishrmania fans of all ages. Now we hear that there’s an American country music star heading to Páirc Ui Chaoimh for a double header next weekend! The Kingfishr trio have made their way gradually from local back gardens in our parish to Cyprus Avenue to support act status, and more recently and more meteorically, partly due to the earworm that is “Killeagh La La La La”, from Live At The Marquee in 2025 to Virgin Media (Musgrave) Park in 2026. There’s just one more step, and while we’d love it to be Páirc Uí Chinnéíde, the reality is that it screams “Páirc Ui Chaoimh 2027”. If Katie gets her wish to box in Croke Park, surely Kevin, Pat and the powers that be up there on De Banks can get this one over the line! You read it here first – July / August 2027!!
  2. Mea maxima culpa on this one, but the trio of congratulations last time out should in reality have been a quartet. So here goes with the catch up – congratulations to the remarkable buacahaillí agus cailíní and staff of Inch National School for doing the camogie / hurling double in Sciath na Scol on Friday May 29th. The buachaillí got the ball rolling by defeating Upper Glanmire in their final, while the cailíní defeated another East Cork school Kilcredan NS to secure the double. Well done to all involved!

Here are the match reports from our adult teams in this past fortnight – a mixed bag!

ROCA SPORTS EAST CORK DIVISION 2 FOOTBALL LEAGUE Cobh 0-13, Glenbower Rovers 3-14

Our final Division 2 football fixture saw us secure a fine win away to Cobh, which put us back on top of the league table at the end of our campaign. However, results in other matches have conspired to see us likely to miss out on a top-two place, as St. Catherine’s victory over Midleton saw them leap-frog us and Glenville are likely to complete their campaign with a win against Cobh to take the other available spot. So four wins, two draws and just the one loss was a good, but not good enough, return from this campaign, where lots of players got game time. This match saw another of the 2008 brigade – Seanan McDonnell – make his adult debut, and as cúl báire, securing a win and a clean sheet is as much as he could expect for his first day out. Aidan McNamee also impressed on his seasonal debut, while MVP for this match was an easy decision, with Eoin Brenner in devastating form, scoring 2-04 in total. He scored a critical goal on 22 minutes which reduced our deficit from 0-10 to 0-02 to 0-10 to 1-02. Cobh had started very strongly with the aid of the westerly gale, and three two point kicks helped them into that early lead, before two late points from George Walsh and Richie Long brought us to within one score (0-10 to 1-04) at David Butler’s half time whistle. We had levelled by 35 minutes, with two points from Dara Motherway and one from Ben Walsh, who was also outstanding throughout. Eoin Brenner put us in front then for the first time, and goals from Eoin on 44 minutes, Richie on 49 and Fionn Murphy on 52 minutes saw us move into an unassailable lead in the final quarter, with Cobh only able to add three points in the final 40 minutes of the match. League done, focus now turns to championship, with Glenville first up on July 26th in Lisgoold at 1130 hrs.

Team: Seanan McDonnell, Pierce Geary, George Walsh, Padraig Leahy, Ciaran Leahy, Ben Walsh, Conor Burns, Robbie Treacy, Dara Motherway, Eoin Brenner, Sean Long, John Ogbebor, Sean Walsh, Richie Long, Fionn Murphy, Diarmuid Buckley, Aidan McNamee.

RED FM DIVISON 7 HURLING LEAGUE Na Piarsaigh 3-27, Killeagh 2-16 in Na Piarsaigh on Thursday June 11th at 1930 hrs

No joy on the Northside on Thursday last, as table toppers Na Piarsiagh’s comprehensive win secured their almost certain immediate return to Division 6 for 2027, having been relegated in 2025. The tight pitch, poor shooting (particularly in the first half when we racked up 13 wides) and a few defensive errors all proved costly, although we were only five points down (2-20 to 2-15) after Dinny Walsh’s goal on 51 minutes. Our opening goal had come from Sean Walsh after eighteen minutes and it put us ahead by 1-06 to 1-05, but Na Piarsiagh finished the half strongly to begin the second half ahead by five -2-10 to 1-08. The pattern repeated itself in the second half as we kept the gap as close as we could, but our hosts pulled away rather easily in the final ten minutes, when we were only able to add one more point in contrast to Na Piarsaigh’s 1-07. Best on a tough evening were Sean Walsh, Richie Long and Dinny Walsh. We welcome Ballinora to Páirc Uí Chinnéide on Saturday 27th June at 1500 hrs, where a win could give us an outside chance of promotion. The performance may be more important than the result on this occasion, however.

Team: Fionn Murphy, Aidan Morrison, Jamie Fogarty, Conor Burns, Robbie Treacy, George Walsh Wallace, Davy Kelleher, Pierce Geary, Sean Walsh, Dinny Walsh, Eoghan Keniry, Andrew Leahy, Shane Kearney, Dara Motherway, Richie Long, Philip O’Neill, Kieran Lane.

RED FM DIVISON 1 HURLING LEAGUE Carrigtwohill  Killeagh in Carrigtwohill on Sunday June 14th at 11.30 a.m.

Our Division 1 hurling campaign’s penultimate league match on Sunday saw us battle gamely but ultimately fall to a strong Carrigtwohill team, who will be among the favourites for the Senior A championship in a few weeks’ time. Playing against the wind, we trailed by 2-17 to 1-09 at the half, with Dave Buckley’s green flag coming at the end of the half. Ryan McCarthy was our chief scorer, with six points including three from play, while Shane Smiddy, Pa O’Brien and Dave Buckley also chipped in with a point each. Hopes of a turnaround in fortunes with the aid of the wind never really materialised, despite Ryan’s goal on 43 minutes. One match left in this campaign, as we welcome the famed Glen Rovers to Killeagh on Thursday June 23rd at 1930 hrs, before attention will turn to the crucial opening championship fixture against Fermoy in Lisgoold on August 1st.

Team: Philip O’Neill, Keane Budds, Jamie Fogarty, Sean Long, Cathal Fitzgibbon, Ben Walsh, Gary Walsh, George Walsh Wallace, John Ogbebor, Andrew Leahy, Pa O’Brien, Shane Smiddy, Sean Walsh, David Buckley, Ryan McCarthy, Richie Long, Robbie Treacy, Padraig Leahy.
