RED FM COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 1 Sun May 31st

MIDLETON 3-21 CARRIGTWOHILL 0-25

The Midleton senior hurlers booked their place in the Division 1 County Hurling League Final on Sunday when they got the better of neighbours Carrigtwohill after an entertaining hour of hurling in front of a big crowd.

This was Midleton’s seventh league win from seven games and we are now guaranteed a place in the decider in early July with still two games to play, away to Douglas and at home to Sarsfields.

There was little between the teams in the opening exchanges and by the 12th minute it was the visitors who led by 0-6 to 0-4.  But the home side struck back with three points on the trot from Cormac Beausang, Cárthaigh Cronin and a Conor Lehane free to lead by one, 0-7 to 0-6 after the opening quarter. A minute later Conor Lehane struck for Midleton’s first green flag, which was followed three minutes later by another major from Paul Connaughton before Lehane bagged his second and his side’s third inside four minutes to see the Magpies lead by 3-7 to 0-7 with 20 minutes on the clock. Carrigtwohill responded really well though and struck five points in a row to storm back into the game and at the sound of the referee’s short whistle it was the men in black and white who led by four, 3-9 to 0-14.

The visitors started the second-half brightly and within six minutes of the restart the sides were level at 3-9 to 0-18. Midleton never hit the panic button though and soon hit the front again through points from Conor Lehane, Bríon Saunderson (who also made a number of fine saves on the day), Ciarmhac Smyth and Evan McGrath. There were five points between the sides when Carrigtwohill were reduced to 14 men on 48 minutes and that was also the margin between the sides at the final whistle as Midleton won out by 3-21 to 0-25 to make it seven from seven.

Next up is an away trip to Douglas on Sunday, June 14 at 11.30am.

Scorers for Midleton: Conor Lehane 2-5 (0-4 f), Paul Connaughton 1-3, Cormac Beausang 0-4, Bríon Saunderson (0-1 f), Cárthaigh Cronin 0-2 each, Tadhg O’Leary Hayes, Luke Dineen, Cormac Walsh, Ciarmhac Smyth, Evan McGrath 0-1 each.

No matches for a couple of weeks as most of the lads have the pleasure of doing the Junior Cert. Best of luck to the all of them. The Fe 15s have kindly invited our non exam cohort to attend training with them so they will be able to keep their eye in.

Well done to the Midleton lads involved with the Cork minors, in particular our Will Stokes who qualified for the All-Ireland semi final.. Great achievement and best of luck in the penultimate round.

Fé11

On Saturday 30th May at Park South the U11 boys took on Bishopstown with 25 Midleton players participating. The squad was divided into two teams and played 2 matches each.

The boys delivered excellent performances throughout the day, demonstrating impressive skill, teamwork, and determination. The players showed great enthusiasm from start to finish, working hard for one another and displaying many of the skills they have been developing in training. The players showed great resilience and never gave up, competing for every ball and supporting their teammates throughout the matches.

Most importantly, all 25 players represented Midleton with pride, showing excellent attitude, sportsmanship, and effort. The games provided a valuable opportunity for the boys to continue their development while enjoying competitive hurling against a strong Bishopstown side.

Well done to all the Midleton players for their hard work and commitment, and thanks to Bishopstown for two sporting and enjoyable matches.

Ladies Football

U13

A fantastic display of football from Midleton and our hosts Roscarbery on a misty Saturday afternoon last weekend. Midleton started stronger but it didn't take Roscarbery long to find their feet. A last minute goal for Midleton brought us to extra time. After 20 mins Midleton came away with the win. Nail biting stuff throughout. Thanks to Roscarbery for hosting and putting on a spread after, to the ref and all the supporters for travelling.

Next up is the semi final at home this Saturday in Clonmult at 12.30pm v St Vals.
