Important Hurling Win
Castlemartyr secured a very important brace of points in the RED FM Division 5 League, when coming from behind to win Saturday's away game in Kilbrittain by 1-20 to 2-15 and in the process produced arguably their best thirty minutes so far this season to turn around a 2-10 to 0-7 deficit at half time. The character shown and the manner of the win made the outcome extra significant and pushed the team up to 6 points on the table with two matches remaining. Youghal at home on Saturday week and Ballygarvan away in their last encounter will conclude the campaign.
Wind played it's part on Saturday as the home team moved into a 1-7 to 0-6 advantage inside the final ten minutes of the opening half and then kicked on to lead by nine at the interval. The margin flattered them somewhat , as Castlemartyr had their chances and could have been closer to their arrivals at the short whistle.
So to the second half. KIlbrittain moved ten ahead early on, but a quick 1-2 from the Reds saw them gather instant momentum. Joe Stack , who starred with a personal return of 1-4, cracked home a superb goal. With Mike Kelly scoring freely in a top class display and the hard working Ciarán Sice really busy in the middle, things continued to evolve quickly.
Niall Madden hit an eye catching 0-3 on his return to action and further back Cathal Martin and Peter Fleming were defensive standouts in a rearguard that been forced into an early reshuffle due to an injury to Barra O'Tuama. Liam Martin, making a welcome return from injury slotted in at wing back and Mike Cosgarve assumed the pivotal role.
Overall, a really encouraging result, which made the journey back home an enjoyable one.
Team Jack McGann, Cathal Martin, Peter Fleming, Odhran Cantwell, Richard Burke, Barra O'Tuama, Mike Cosgrave, Mike Kelly, Ciarán Sice, Niall Madden, Conán Finnegan, Michael Dwyer, Cian Murphy, Joe Stack and Andrew Kelly.

Midleton Reversal
The journey to Kilbrittain came on the back of a 1-22 to 1-13 reversal to Midleton at a very wintery Clonmult Memorial Park earlier in May.
The Midleton goal on 38 minutes seemd to knock the stuffing out of our challenge and gave the Magpies a lead of 1-13 to 0-9, having only had a two point lead (0-9 to 0-7) at the interval.
There was some good play by an understrnegth Castlemartyr side in that first thirty monutes with Billy McGann, Daire Coughlan and Mike Kelly posting the scores on the board. Our defence featuring some very good displays by Peter Fleming, Darragh Joyce and Darragh Leahy had coped well with the lively Midleton attack.
The aforemntioend goal was a big jolt to our challnge and we drifted 1-18 to 0-11 in arrers. However second half subs Declan Kelly and Darragh Cashman did leave their mark. A neat finish by Darragh found the net and trimmed the margin back temporarily backto six, whilst Declan contributed a brace of well taken points.

Footballers Conclude League Campaign
Our junior footballers concluded their ROCA Sports Division 1 campaign with two games in recent weeks and in the end the win in Lisgoold proved to be the pivotal result of thie season.
Their 0-12 to 0-9 win against the hosts moved the Reds up to six points on the table - where they joined three other teams. However, it also left them still in fear of the drop on points difference.
As it transpired despite the 3-8 to 0-13 defeat by Erin's Own...we survived on scoring difference at the expense of Fr O Neill's. Erin's Own moved to ten points and got the nod to play Carraig na bhFear in the decider - as they have the head to head advantage over Carrigtwohill.
The football league campaign has seen the new management minus several playerss for many of the games, but it presented the opportunity to introduce some newcomers to the set up , with Rory Lynch, Jack O'Neill and Jack Clifford a making very favourable impressions. Here is a brief summary of the conlcuding two games.
Castlemartyr 0-13 Erin's Own 3-8
We trailed by 1-3 to 0-5 at half time, as both sides spurnned good opportunities to raise a few more flags in the opening thirty minutes. Castlemartyr net mider Conor Whyte kicked a great two pointer from a free, whilst Peter Fleming and Andrew Kelly also produced accomplished finishes on the back of Mike Cosgrave's opening score. Mike enjoyed a very industrious hour in the middle of the field and constanlty took the challenge to the opposition with his surging runs, which saw him rewarded with two further points in the second half.
Rory Black too caught the eye in attack adding an early point in the second half and then soon after a two pointer again off his left foot. By then, Erin's Own had hit two more goals to lead 3-7 to 0-10.
Whlst Castlemartyr did not do enough to turn the result around, points from Eoin Cashman and Rory Lynch allied to Mike Cosgrave's third point did enough tp keep the margin tight enough to survive. In genrral the defence, in which Decaln Kelly had another super match, acquitted themselves well in a game when young players Rory Lynch, Richard Burke and Jack Cliifrod formed a very new look half back line.
As a mixed campaign came to a close the focus will next turn to the championship fields in mid summer.

Lisgoold 0-9 Castlemartyr 0-12
Castlemarty had nine different scorers as they gathered that vital brace of points in a hard fought enounter in Lisgoold.
Quality first half points from play by Mike Cosgrave, Jack O'Neill and the hard runnning Conor Ronayne had us on parity at 0-3 each in a low scoring first 30 minutes in which Lisgoold threatened to get on the goal trail on a number of occasions. Subs James O Donovan, Sean Morgan and Eoin Cashman all made vital second half contriubtions as scores began to flow more freely.
We led 0-8 to 0-5 entering te last quarter and in the end were good value for the three point success as all the team displayed great battling qualities producing some gritty defending late on.
Newcomers, Jack Clifford and Jack O;Neiil put in great shifts, whilst fellow rookie Rory Lycnh had an outstanding hour in defence on his first start .
