Killeagh GAA Club Notes May 31st 2026
CLCG Cilliath, Nuacht an Chlub, Bealtaine 31, 2026
CONGRATULATIONS!
Three again this week, two of whom have featured already in the 2026 Roll of Honour!
- To our teenage star Barry Walsh, for once again showing his class in Cork’s dismantling of the Banner on Sunday last. Another stern test against Limerick awaits next Sunday. No bother to you Barry, bring it home!
- To Colm Crowley, our junior hurling and football manager, player, mentor and recruiter, who added another string to his bow on Thursday evening last, winning the County Cork Poc Fada for 2026, hosted by Araglen GAA. Colm now goes on to represent Cork in the Munster Final on Saturday June 13th in the Galtee Mountains.
- To our social media guru Rory, who added another Cup medal to his National Cup and League medals with his Rebel Wheelers wheelchair basketball team last Saturday in Gormanston, Co. Meath. Not only that, but Rory was named MVP in the final, shooting an impressive 14 points, and was also named Most Improved Player in the country in the 2026 season! Maith thú, arís, Rory!
ROAD RACE A GREAT SUCCESS
Congratulations to all who participated in our Annual Road Race / Healthy Clubs Walk on a beautiful evening on Thurdsay May 21st. We had two course records on a perfect evening for running. Michael Harty was the men’s winner, in a record time of 19:10, while Kealey Tideswell was the women’s winner in a record time of 23:06. Thanks to all the bakers, stewards, volunteers and of course to all the runners and walkers who made this such a great community event. See you all in May 2027!
PLEASE SUPPORT!
We give prominence this week to two very worthy local causes, and ask you to consider supporting them.
Firstly, our dedicated clubman and one of our key Páirc Ui Chinnéide field workers, Eddie Scully, is organising a sponsored walk in memory of his beloved wife Mary (Revins) who passed away last July. To mark her first anniversary, and to acknowledge the great support that Mary, Eddie and countless others have received from Marymount Hospice, Eddie is organising a walk on the Youghal to Killeagh Greenway on SUNDAY JULY 12th, along with a raffle on the same day in The Old Thatch, Killeagh. Sponsorship cards and further details are available from Eddie at 086-1072804. Please support “Mary’s Walk For Marymount” in whatever way you can! See poster attached for further details.
Secondly, one of our parishioners, seventeen year old Cathy Kennefick from Mount Uniacke, has recently been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) and has been undergoing treatment since January 2026. We all appreciate how priorities change when something like this happens to a family, but we don’t always realise the financial impact, and right now the priority for Cathy’s parents Mark and Caroline is to get Cathy well again. Friends of the Kennefick family have kindly set up an iDonate page, and they would greatly appreciate any support from the community in Killeagh / Inch and beyond, no matter how small. Thanks very much!

Here are the match reports from our adult teams in this past week.
RED FM DIVISON 1 HURLING LEAGUE Killeagh 2-15, Blackrock 1-30 Thursday May 28th in Killeagh
The famed Blackrock National Hurling Club visited Páirc Uí Chinnéide on Thursday last and left with two points and a comprehensive victory, with an evident gulf in class between one of the fancied Premier Senior Hurling Championship teams and a Senior A Hurling Championship team yet to make a serious impact at that grade. We got the first goal of the evening from Ryan McCarthy on two minutes, and a second, on 11 minutes from Eoghan Keniry, gradually finding his form at this level on his return, left us 2-03 to 0-07 ahead. However, the Rockies then took control, scoring 1-11 in the remainder of the first half, while we only added three points from Ciaran Leahy, Shane Smiddy, and Dylan McCarthy’s second point. The second half was a more even affair, as we added 0-09 with the aid of the wind while Blackrock added 0-12 against it. As the game petered out towards its inevitable outcome, it was notable for two excellent goal-line saves, firstly from Jamie Fogarty and later from Fionn Murphy. We remain joint bottom of the league with just the one win over our neighbours Fr. O’Neills. Next up we travel to Carrigtwohill on Sunday June 14th for an 11.30 showdown. Victory here would give us a slight chance of avoiding relegation, defeat would seal our fate.
Team: Fionn Murphy, Keane Budds, Jamie Fogarty, Sean Long, Rob Sinclair, Ben Walsh, George Walsh Wallace, Cathal Fitzgibbon, Evan Lane, Ciaran Leahy, Dylan McCarthy, John Ogbebor, Eoghan Keniry, Ryan McCarthy, Shane Smiddy, Sean Walsh, Andrew Leahy, David Buckley.
ROCA SPORTS EAST CORK DIVISION 2 HURLING LEAGUE St. Ita’s 3-14, Killeagh 0-07, Friday May 29th in Pilmore
Picturesque Pilmore was the setting for this match on Friday evening last, where our hosts took some time to get on top (0-3 to 0-1 after 15 minutes), but eventually took command of the fixture. Our team, shorn of at least ten who might have fielded at this level but were unable to do so, kept battling right to the end, with Paul Keniry, Kieran Lane and Tadhg O’Connor all impressing in defence, and Padraic Carroll leading the line well in attack. Two late goals from St. Ita’s gave the scoreline a skewed look, when in reality, we were more competitive than the final score suggests, without ever really being in the running to actually win. Division 3 hurling beckons in 2027 – just one more outing remains, away to St. Catherine’s on Sunday June 14th at 2.30 p.m.
Team: Colm Crowley, Paul Keniry, Conor Meade, Tadhg O’Connor, Shane Kearney, Davy Kelleher, Brendan Keniry, Michael O’Donovan, Dale McMahon, Lee Cooney, Padraic Carroll, Kieran Lane, Brian Murphy, Ciaran O’Rourke, Darragh O’Connor, Danny Fitzgerald, Diarmuid Buckley, Dermot Motherway, Darragh Sheehan.
RED FM DIVISON 7 HURLING LEAGUE Douglas 0-11, Killeagh 1-20, Saturday May 30th in Douglas
In contrast to the results of our first team, the trajectory of our second hurling team (Junior A / Division 7 county league) is going very clearly in the right direction. For a few hours on Saturday afternoon, we were briefly top of the table in this league, before Ballinora defeated St. Finbarr’s to regain that status. With many players unavailable due to exams, injuries and travel, our main focus initially was to ensure that we fielded for this fixture. What a brilliant performance, then, to win again! This was an outstanding victory, with Keane Budds, Robbie Treacy, Sean Walsh, Richie Long, Andrew Leahy and Paudie Mackey all to the fore, as we have come to expect. However, MVPs for this particular match must surely be shared between Colm Crowley and Shane Kearney. Colm, fresh from winning the Cork Poc Fada on Thursday evening, sandwiched a full-hour full-forward exhibition of ball winning, sharing and distributing and even scoring his own point, in between two player-manager stints in goal for our Division 2 and Division 4 East Cork league matches on Friday and Sunday. Even more impressive, probably, is the return to action of Shane Kearney in 2026, after his serious life-changing medical challenges. Shane’s Friday night performance in Pilmore was highly efficient as he hurled loads of ball from wing-back, with his sideline cuts as good as they ever were, and a fine long-distance point from play. On Saturday, playing at right corner forward, Shane had a blistering first half, with a point on 5 minutes, a goal on 18, and a second point just before half time. Not content with two matches in two days, Shane (along with Colm and Diarmuid Buckley) answered the call on Sunday afternoon to play again, this time for our Division 4 team. We’re only half way through the year yet, but that’s surely worth a nomination for “Club Player Of The Year” already! Shane’s versatility (he literally could play in any position from 1 to 15, although like many others, he preferred to steer clear of the cúl báire jersey in recent times) has served him and Killeagh well in the past, and we can add loyalty, resilience and dedication to the list of his attributes. Special mention also to another warrior, Kieran Lane who also raised white flags in Pilmore on Friday evening and Douglas on Saturday afternoon. After losing our first two matches in this league, we are now in a strong position to battle for one of the promotion spots, although two tough assignments await – away to Na Piarsaigh on Thursday June 11th and finally at home to current table-toppers Ballinora on Saturday June 27th.
Team: Philip O’Neill, Aidan Morrison, Jamie Fogarty, Conor Burns, Robbie Treacy, Keane Budds, Aaron Fitzgibbon, Diarmuid Buckley, Sean Walsh, Dan Smiddy, Andrew Leahy, Richie Long, Shane Kearney, Paudie Mackey, Colm Crowley, Michael O’Donovan, Kieran Lane.
ROCA SPORTS EAST CORK DIVISION 4 HURLING LEAGUE Killeagh 0-02, Sarsfields 2-17, Sunday May 31st in Killeagh
Our final outing of May saw unbeaten Sarsfields come with a lively and skilful team on Sunday afternoon. Given that ten of our starting fifteen had been involved on Friday evening against St. Ita’s and three (Colm, Shane and Diarmuid) had also played on Saturday afternoon against Douglas, this was another case of fielding being the success here. Sars were much too strong, but we kept going to the end, with Cullen Ryan Hyde, Ian O’Keeffe, Brendan Keniry, Lee Cooney and Darragh O’Connor leading our efforts. Lee and Darragh scored two fine points as a reward for their efforts. One match left in this league, where we have done well to fulfil all our fixtures to date. Erins Own at home is our final fixture.
Team: Colm Crowley, Ian Landers, Paul Keniry, Cullen Ryan Hyde, Dan Lucey, Ian O’Keeffe, Sean Lucey, Danny Fitzgerald, Brendan Keniry, Darragh O’Connor, Brian Murphy, Lee Cooney, Darragh Sheehan, Shane Kearney, Diarmuid Buckley, Thomas Fitzgerald.
