Intermediate Hurling

A reminder that our intermediate hurling team are back in action this evening, as they take on neighbours Midleton in their latest RED FM Division 5 league fixture. Throw in at Clonmult Memorial Park is at 7.30pm.

Junior Leagues

Our second string had a tough double fixture last week - away to Carraig na bhFear on Wednesday and another away trip to Youghal on Saturday evening. Both proved difficult assignments, as our squad were without a number of regular starters.

Eoghan Martin scored all our first half points as we trailed 2-9 to 0-5 at half time in Carraig na bhFear, having played into a stiff wind. After his good work, Sean Morgan came very close to a first half goal, whilst there were also other chances of raising a green flag, with Conán Finnegan and Conor Ronayne both central in good approach play.

The home team made the most of their goal opportunities in the second half and despite a gallant effort by our team, closing the gap proved to difficult a task . Peter Feming drove on the Reds from midfield, whilst Oisín and Odhran Cantwell both worked very hard in defence. In the end the hosts ran out comfortable winners by 4-12 to 0-13.

Scorers v Carraig na bhFear-
Eoghan Martin 0-5 (incl 0-4 frees) Conán Finnegan 0-4 (incl 0-3 frees) Darragh Cashman 0-2, Conor Ronayne and Dave Lawton 0-1 each.

Less than forty hours later, Castlemartyr were back in action in Youghal. Tom Fleming's eye catching long range opening point set the early tone, as Ewan Cashman excelled with his superb free taking - scoring seven from seven in that half with a great display of clean ball striking.
Unfortunately, despite an excellent James O'Donovan save in the 18th minute, we conceded two goals just before half time.

Earlier Youghal had shown great accuracy from long distance to lead by five points, but Ewan's sixth free and a crafty score from James Barry had trimmed the lead to just 3 points. Thus, the interval count of 2-15 to 0-9 against us was a tough reflection of our first half show. A stand out performance from Jack O'Neill at midfield was amongst the striking factors of that opening 30 minutes.

The accurate Darragh Cashman raised green flags early and late in the second half, the latter a product of very good work by Jack Smiddy. A welcome return by Cian Murphy saw him add a brace of late points. In between though, Youghal - with a number of seasoned campaigners continued to shoot with great accuracy and finished 15 points winners on a 2-29 to 2-15 scoreline.

Scorers v Youghal - Ewan Cashman 0-8 frees, Darragh Cashman 2-2, Cian Murphy 0-2, Tom Fleming and James Barry 0-1 each.

Castlemartyr now have just two games remaining against St Catherine's and St Ita's and will be looking for vital league points to make a step or two up the table.
The first of these vital clashes is against the Ballynoe side on Sunday week.

Footballers In Lisgoold

Our junior footballers are also in need of a result as they travel to Lisgoold on Wednesday for the JFL1 tie (7.30pm start). They then play Erin's Own at home on Monday next at the same time.

Congratulations Ava

Congrats again to Ava McAuliffe on her "player of the match" display versus Kilkenny in yesterday's All Ireland Under 23 Camogie Final at The Fraher Field. Ava proved a constant menace to the Kilkenny defence and was a very worthy recipient of her individual accolade following her 1-5 contribution. So with an All Ireland medal in the bag, Ava will no doubt be a part of Ger Manley's senior squad for the summer ahead as Cork begin their championship campaign away to champions Galway in a few weeks time.

Work In Progress

Great to see work continuing at Paddy Walsh Memorial Park. Our meeting Room/Kitchen area is now almost complete and in the past week, work has begun for our new gymnasium, with the clearing of the site. Thanks to all our members for their continued support of our Bundles and Rebels Bounty Draw- without your help, such progress would not be possible.
