RED FM COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 1 12/05/2026

MIDLETON 2-20 BLACKROCK 0-21

Our senior hurlers made it six league wins from six games on Tuesday night when Blackrock were the visitors to a sun drenched Clonmult Memorial Park.

The home side got off to a great start, with the aid of the breeze, and led by 0-4 to 0-0 early doors and then by 0-5 to 0-3 before the game’s opening goal arrived on 14 minutes from Davy Cremin to put us 1-5 to 0-3 in front after the opening quarter.

The Magpies struck for goal number two on 22 minutes when a great burst forward from Sean O’Sullivan from wing back set up Conor Morley at the back post to score his third goal in two games.

All six Midleton forwards scored from play in the first-half as they led by nine points at one stage before the Rockies finished strong to cut the deficit to six (2-11 to 0-11) at the interval in a game played in front of a fine attendance.

Cormac Walsh made it a seven point game within seconds of the restart but over the next ten minutes the visitors outscored us by 0-7 to 0-2 to cut the gap to two but we rallied again in the final quarter to push on for a deserved victory by five, helped in no small way by a string of excellent saves by Brion Saunderson that (along with an excellent display by our defence) saw us keep a third clean sheet on the bounce and a fourth from our six games.

Next up is another home game, against neighbours Carrigtwohill, on Sunday May 31 in Clonmult Memorial Park at 11.30am.

Juvenile

Fé16

Another busy and varied week for the lads as we had 4 games since last Tuesday. Both codes and both teams had fixtures . On Tuesday the 6th we welcomed Mallow to Park South for a Division 4 football league game. Our resources were slightly stretched but the lads put up a good enough performance against a stronger outfit. The lads are definitely improving and the game time chaps are getting is bringing on both the 16s and the 15s. Despite a heart filled fight we left ourselves too much to do in the second half so unfortunately defeat was the outcome.

On the following evening we entertained Bandon in the P2 league. This was our final game in this competition so we really felt we needed a performance. The lads started great and were leading for long periods against a good footballing outfit. We were pegged back to level in the end after everyone on the squad put in a great effort and performance. We were the ones pushing for the win in the end and were unlucky not to come away with both points. It ended 3-12 a piece in an entertaining game.

Then on Sunday morning last we made the short trip to Dungourney to take on Kilta Óg in the P1 hurling league. We were pointless after 2 games. We played with the strong breeze in the first half on a perfect pitch. We took an early lead and despite a spirited and well drilled opposition we managed to maintain a comfortable margin all the way through. Good performance from the lads but everyone knows that we still have a good lot of improvement needed as the year moves on and 16 points won’t win many games going forward. Kilta 0-6 Midleton 0-16. Next up Ballinora away on Thursday.

On Monday the 11th we welcomed Aghada to Park South for our second Division one league match. This was another tough outing for the lads. This team, despite very hard opposition by the club were graded Division one by Rebel Óg. We use this grade to increase participation and to ensure lads not always in 1st team squads to get the games they deserve. These lads are training, interested and willing, so deserve as much game time as we can give them. It is a mighty tribute to the lads involved to keep turning up and trying their hearts out against 1st teams that have champions ambitions in this grade. While improvement in our lads performance was there we were heavily defeated by a team 3 grades up from us. Thanks for the effort lads and don’t get one bit disheartened as ye are definitely improving.

Well done to Will Stokes and all the Midleton lads involved with Cork in getting through the minor All-Ireland q/final.

Camogie

Under 11’s:

On Sunday 11th May our U11’s had an early start in Dungourney when they played a blitz against hosts Dungourney and Youghal, where the girls excelled. Great to see all the girls hard work in training is paying off. Keep up the good work!

Minors:

Huge congratulations to our Minor team show showed incredible grit, determination and perseverance to get over the line in an enthralling League Semi-Final against St. Catherines in Ballynow on Wednesday May 6th.

It was a fiercely competitive battle for every single ball from the first whistle. Both sides refused to yield, and after sixty minutes of high-octane action the teams couldn’t be separated, ending in a draw.

The drama only intensified as we moved into extra time. Under floodlights the girls dug deep, finding a second wind to score two goals in quick succession during the first half. St. Catherine’s showed their pedigree by fighting back, but our girls held their nerve to pull ahead by a single point in the dying minutes with the match ending on a score line of Midleton &:11 St. Catherine’s 4:17.

A sincere thank you to our hosts who were excellent opponents and showed their immense class and skill throughout the evening, making the victory all the more hard earned.

The League Final will now take place on Wednesday May 13th in Castle Road at 7:15. All support is greatly appreciated for these hard working girls.
