BRIDE ROVERS GAA NOTES.

SENIORS GOOD RUN CONTINUES.
As the hectic Club Season is really ramping up our Senior Hurlers played a Draw against Newtownshandrum so we now have three wins and two draws, The Lotto Jackpot was won last Tuesday. Our under 10 hurlers won their Section of the Ballyduff Tournament. Our under 15 hurlers were in Feile action last weekend. Cork teams have a busy, busy schedule coming up and at Club level it’s the same. Preparations for the 2026 Cul Camp are well underway.

WELL DONE LADS. It was back to Ballyduff Upper last Saturday for a 10 o  clock start in the host Club’s Inter County Feast of Hurling. Our lads were in the 9 a side Section. Having beaten Clonea, Castlelyons and Mount Sion the previous weekend the boys were looking forward to more hurling. All the Section semi finals and finals were down for decision on Saturday. The Rovers played Fermoy in their  semi-final.  In a game that produced great hurling the boys won by a single point. We then played Ballycastle (Ballyhooley/Castletownroche) in the final. In what was low scoring game we came out on top by a margin of 4 points, winning by 2.4 to 1.3. The boys played brilliantly throughout the two weekends and were a credit to their club and families.  It’s great to see the manner in which these lads have improved game by game. Their skill level is improving all the time. Special mention to Sean Bennis who gave an unbelievable performance in goal in the first half of our semi with Fermoy.
The Bride Rovers team panel was: Sean Bennis, Patrick Broderick, Senan O'Connor, Bobby Mohally, Oisin Kenneally, Philip Manly, Noah Peters, Tiernan O'Regan, Thomas Finn, Ronan Murphy,  Tom Kearney, Olainn Kenneally, Rory Healy, Darragh Ryan. A huge ‘Thank You’ to the Ballyduff Upper Juvenile GAA Club for the outstanding manner in which they organised the Tournament over two weekends. Their hospitality was just outstanding -so typical of this West Waterford Club.

RED FM CORK SENIOR HURLING LEAGUE Div. 2  (Thursday April 30th)
Bride Rovers 2-18 Newtownshandrum 3-15
Despite the inclement weather and fading light, Bride Rovers and Newtown served up a exciting league match in Round 5 of the RED FM sponsored Division 2 County League at Pairc Na Bríde on Thursday last. Following this draw Bride Rovers moved joint top of the league with Erins Own and remain unbeaten with 3 wins and 2 draws with 4 games to go. An exciting finish to the game saw Bride Rovers come from 5 points down with 5 minutes to play, to take a one point lead following a great goal by Conor O Riordan, but from a quick puck out, Newtown scored an equalising point. The Rovers got one more chance to grab a winner when Adam Walsh played a free to Davy Barry whose shot just tailed off wide.
The opening half was saw Newtown take an interval lead of 2-07 to 1-06. Conleith Ryan had the Rovers opening score with a well taken point. Newtown replied with 2 points and a goal to lead by 4 points. Adam Walsh was causing havoc in the square and was rewarded when he won a penalty which he duly struck to the back of the net. Further points from Conor Barry, Paddy O’Flynn, Adam Walsh & Shane O’Connor completed our first half scoring.
With the light fading fast on a dark evening, both sides agreed to a 5 minute interval. On the resumption Bride Rovers started well with points from Conleith, Conor Barry and an Adam Walsh free reduced the margin to one point. But a goal and two  points from Newtown had them 6 points in front by the 40th minute.
Adam Walsh added a few more points from placed balls and play but with a little over 5 minutes remaining we still trailed by five points. A couple of more points from Adam Walsh reduced the Newtown lead to two pints before Conor O Riordan scored a great goal in the 61sr minute to put us in front for the first time since the opening minute of the game. Newtown grabbed an equaliser from the resultant puck out as the game finished level on a scoreline of Bride Rovers 2-18 Newtownshandrum 3-15.  Team: C Hogan, R. Prendergast, D. Cashman, C O Sullivan, C Hazelwood, C Tobin, S O’Connor, D. Barry, C. Barry, C. Ryan, R. O’Connell, P. O’Flynn, C. Barry, A. Walsh, C. O’Riordan. Subs used: J. Mannix   Next fixtures:

UNDER 14 HURLING; Bride Rovers 5-14 | St. Colman’s 5-5
Pynes Pitch, Tuesday April 28th
Bride Rovers delivered an excellent team performance to claim a deserved 5-14 to 5-5 victory over St. Colman’s in this under13 Hurling League clash at Pynes Pitch on Tuesday evening.
From the outset, Bride Rovers played with great intensity and confidence, moving the ball quickly and making full use of the wide spaces. Early points helped settle the team, and some well-worked goals gave Rovers control of the contest as the game developed. The forwards were sharp and accurate, while strong midfield displays ensured a steady supply of quality possession.
The Cloyne/Russell Rovers combination showed plenty of fight and took their goal chances well, but Bride Rovers responded each time with scores of their own. The ability to consistently add points proved crucial and allowed Rovers to extend their lead throughout the second half.
At the back, Bride Rovers defended with determination, working hard to close down space and turn defence into attack with pace. The overall work rate and teamwork on display were a credit to the players.
This was a very positive result for Bride Rovers, built on effort, skill and teamwork, and it will provide great encouragement as the league campaign continues.  Squad on the night was: Cian Barry, Theo Skillington, Harry Fitzpatrick, Eoin Burke, Hugh Clerkin, Darragh Feeney, Luke Buckley (Capt.) Tiarnan Lyons, Kayden Freeman, Joey Allen, Dara Murphy, Jack Gubbins, Killian Donegan, Liam Harrington, Daniel Fitzgerald, Elliot Fitzgerald, John Keating, Fionn Purcell.
UNDER 12
Our under 12s completed a busy week with two football league fixtures. Their first game took place at home to Kiltha Óg on Saturday, 25th of April, where they recorded a 5‑9 to 2‑4 victory. This was followed by an away match against St. Catherine’s in Ballynoe on Wednesday April 29th, with the team displaying excellent skill and composure to secure a 5‑11 to 1‑6 win.
It has been an encouraging start to the football league.
UNDER 14 HURLING. Rovers delivered a strong and composed performance to see off Kiltha Óg (Dungourney/Castlemartyr) in this Premier 2 League encounter, building a solid first-half platform before pushing on again after the break. Rovers started brightly and settled quickly, with early points from frees by Adam Hackett and Jack Fitzgerald helping them into a rhythm. While there were a few early wides, the general play was sharp, with good movement and work rate across the pitch. Conor Healy and Tommy Conway added points from play as Rovers began to assert control. The key moments of the first half came midway through when Alex McCarthy struck for two well-taken goals, giving Bride Rovers real breathing space. Kiltha Óg kept in touch with a series of points from play, but the Rovers defence held firm, limiting clear goal chances. At half-time, Bride Rovers led 2-7 to 0-4.
The second half saw more of the same control from Rovers. Jack Fitzgerald and Adam Hackett kept the scoreboard ticking over from placed balls, while Conor Healy and Hackett added further points from play. Kiltha Óg battled throughout and added a couple of second-half points, but Rovers’ work rate, particularly around puck-outs and breaking ball, ensured they remained comfortably in front. Overall, this was a well-rounded team performance with strong defensive work, good distribution, and clinical finishing at key stages.

CORK TEAMS. It’s really all systems go on the Inter County Front with so many games. It’s great to see Cork teams doing well but costing a small fortune for fans with the multiplicity of matches. Firstly congratulations to the Cork nor Footballers on their win over Kerry on Monday night. Our own Michael Walsh is on the extended panel and Vincent Cronin is a selector.  The Rebels are through to the Munster Final with a game to spare v Waterford in Pairc Ui Rinn on next Monday May 11th.  The Munster Final is on May 18th.

INTER-COUNTY HURLING.  Well it’s off to Walsh Park, Waterford next Saturday evening for a Senior Munster Hurling clash with the home side. With two wins Cork are in a good place but Walsh Park has often been a tough place to get a win. With a final home game against Clare  the Rebels should definitely make the ‘Top 3’ and probably the Munster Final.  WE send best wishes to Brian and Eoin Roche and all the Cork Hurlers. Denis Fitzgerald played in defence last week with the under 20’s when they bet Clare which qualified both team s for the Munster semi final which was played in Cork last night. In the Minor hurling Cathal Barry’s team are at home to Limerick on this Friday coming May 8th in Pairc UI Rinn at 7pm. The top two teams will play in the Munster Final and the third and fourth placed teams will also go into the All Ireland series.
CORK v KERRY.  ‘The Rose of Tralee’ and ‘The Banks’ will be ringing out in Killarney this coming weekend as the Kingdom and the Rebels clash in the Munster Football Final. We grew up on Cork and Kerry Munster Finals but not so much in recent years. Kerry are All Ireland champions so it’s huge challenge for Cork, c’mon the Rebels!

GOOD LUCK BRIDVIEW. We say a theatrical ‘break a leg’ for good luck to the Tallow -based Brideview Drams Group in Athlone this week. Last night, Wed May 6th, the group staged their production of Hugh Leonard’s ‘Da’ in the Dean Crowe Theatre in the Westmeath town in the All Ireland Drama Festival. The play is produced by jack Ahern who played hurling and football with Bride Rovers in the 1980’s when he was living in Rathcormac. The results will be announced on Saturday night-fingers crossed for Brideview.
