RED FM COUNTY HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 1 Sun May 3rd

MIDLETON 2-17 CHARLEVILLE 0-12

The Midleton senior hurlers made it five wins from five games on their return to the top flight of Cork’s hurling league system on Sunday morning last in atrocious conditions as Charleville were the visitors to Clonmult Memorial Park.

Played in driving rain from start to finish, the opening half was a cagey affair with never more than a point or two between the sides with Charleville leading for most of it before the home side finished the stronger to take a narrow lead to the much needed shelter of the half-time dressing room on a scoreline of 0-8 to 0-7.

Midleton’s first-half scoring was done by two each Mikey Finn (frees), Killian McDermott and Davy Cremin and one each for Conor Lehane (free) and Cormac Walsh.

It was in the third quarter that this game was won as the Magpies upped the ante considerably on the restart and pulled away from their North Cork opponents.

It was Charleville who struck the opening point of the second-half but Midleton then took control, hitting 1-7 without reply. Two points from Killian McDermott and one from Cormac Walsh saw us lead by three before that lead was doubled on 41 minutes when Conor Morley billowed the net with just his second touch after coming off the bench.

That lead was soon out to ten points thanks to two white flags each from Conor Lehane and Cormac Beausang. Charleville hit back with their first score in over twenty minutes before a lovely delivery from Sean O’Sullivan was finished to the net by Conor Morley for his second major.

Our final scores were provided by Killian McDermott, who hit five from play on the day, and Conor Lehane as we ran out convincing winners.

Next up are Blackrock, once again at home in Clonmult Memorial Park, on Tuesday night next, May 12, at 7.30pm.

After that we will have just three games remaining. At home to Carrigtwohill (May 31), away to Douglas (June 14) and at home to Sarsfields (TBC).

Scorers for Midleton: Conor Morley 2-0, Killian McDermott 0-5, Conor Lehane 0-4 (0-1 f), Cormac Beausang, Mikey Finn (0-1 f), Cormac Walsh and Davy Cremin 0-2 each.

MIDLETON: Bríon Saunderson; Thomas Dunlea, Ciarmhac Smyth, Seannaidh Smyth; Carthaigh Cronin, Tadhg O’Leary Hayes, Cormac Walsh; Mikey Finn, Killian McDermott; Evan McGrath, Cormac Beausang, Davy Cremin; Cian Stack, Conor Lehane, Pa White. Juvenile

Fé16

On Monday our combinesd Fe15 and Fe16 second team made the short trip to Lisgoold. If there was ever a case for a team being put in the wrong grade by Rebel Og this was it. While the lads tried to the end the difference between a team being favourites for this division 1 grade and a team that despite great efforts made are realistically a division 4 side this was it. We were unfortunately well beaten on the night. On the positive side we got game time into all our lads and this will bring them on and there was a few good performances also.

On Wednesday our P1 hurling team made the trip to Ovens to face Eire Óg in our second league outing. This ended up being a disappointing night also. The lads now realise that our 2 league games have ended in defeat and we will have to up everything to improve results.

Get well soon to Liam Cronin who unfortunately broke a bone in an accidental collision during this game, don’t worry Liam you will be back in business for the junior cert!!!

Hard luck to the Fe 15s in the recent feile.

Fé15 Hurling Féile 2026

We entered two teams into this year's Fé15 Hurling Féile that took place last Saturday. Our 1st team in the Premier 1 competition hosted by Douglas in the morning and 2nd team in the 2nd team competition hosted by Ballincollig in the afternoon. The weather didn't disappoint and nor did our magpies on the field of play showing great skills, determination, commitment and effort throughout. In this format of short games, 10 minutes aside, you need a bit of luck on your side and unfortunately it wasn't to be on the day. All games were tight affairs - Our 1st team beat Douglas in the opening game by 5 pts, 0-07 to 0-02, lost to Sars in the second by a single point 1-05 to 1-06, beat The Barrs in the next by a point, 0-07 to 1-03 and narrowly lost to The Glen in the final game in a winner takes all match by 2 pts, 1-04 to 0-09.

Our 2nd Team lost the opener to Sars 2-06 to 0-03, beat Watergrasshill in the second game by 2 pts, 1-03 to 1-01, lost to Ballincollig in the third by 3 pts, 0-04 to 0-01, and beat Aghada in the last game by 7 pts, 0-07 to 0-00.

All our players really wore the jersey with great pride and we are very very proud of them all.

Thanks to all the players, both u15 and u14, to all the coaches (it was a long day from 9am to 7pm) and to the parents and supporters for your support as always.

Ladies Football

Commersations to our Ladies Football Féile team who narrowly lost by 3 points in the final of the County Féile which was held in Rosscarbery on Bank Holiday Monday after a tremendous campaign.

The girls showed great determination throughout the competition, progressing from a tough group that included Kinsale, Newmarket and Bishopstown. They carried that momentum into a strong semi-final performance against St Mary’s to book their place in the final against Donaghmore.

At halftime in the final, we trailed 1-4 to 0-1, but this group never gave up. They dug deep, showed incredible heart, and battled right to the final whistle. As the clock ticked down, they pushed hard to close the gap but unfortunately just ran out of time. We couldn’t have asked for any more from this outstanding team. Their effort, commitment, and teamwork across every game were a credit to themselves and their club. They represented us with pride and gave everything on the pitch.

A huge thank you as well to the parents for their tremendous support on the day—it meant so much to the players and helped drive them on throughout.

While the result didn’t go our way, this is a special group with a lot to be proud of.

Camogie

Under 13’s:

Our U13s played host to Sars on Thursday 30th April on the Astro in horrendous conditions. Captained by Fiadh, this was the 3rd match out for the girls in this competition. The girls battled but were unable to get a grip on the game against a very slick and strong Sars side. Not to be their evening but we will regroup now and hopefully perform better V Watergrasshill next week.

As always, huge thanks to the younger girls for helping us out. Thanks to ref Ciara Daly and Sars for travelling on such a bad evening.

Minors:

Best of luck to our minors who take on St Catherine’s on Wednesday 6th of May in the Minor League semi final at 8 pm away in Ballynoe.
