Glenville Show Character to Overturn Deficit Against Argideen
Junior Football League
Glenville 1-12
Argideen Rangers 1-8
Glenville recorded a hard-earned and well-deserved victory over Argideen Rangers in the Junior Football League in Glenville on Sunday morning, producing a strong second-half display to overturn a five-point half-time deficit.
Playing against a well-organised Argideen side, Glenville found scores hard to come by in the opening half and trailed by 1-6 to 0-4 at the break. Despite plenty of effort and endeavour, the visitors were more clinical in front of goal during that period and made the most of their chances.
However, Glenville emerged for the second half with renewed energy and intent, and their improved work rate and sharper use of possession began to yield results. The defence tightened considerably, limiting Argideen’s scoring opportunities, while further up the field the forwards began to find their range.
A crucial goal swung momentum firmly in Glenville’s favour, and this was backed up by a series of well-taken points as they gradually edged ahead. The team showed great character and composure throughout the second half, maintaining their intensity and discipline to see the game out.
In what was a real team performance, Glenville’s determination and resilience were key, particularly in their ability to respond to the half-time deficit and take control of the contest after the restart.
This was a valuable league win and a performance that will give the squad plenty of confidence going forward. Glenville would also like to thank the referee and Argideen Rangers for a sporting contest, and to acknowledge the excellent condition of the pitch. Thanks also to all the supporters who came out to back the team.

Playing with confidence from the outset, Glenville built up a 1-6 to 0-6 lead by half-time, with a well-taken goal from Shane O’Callaghan proving a key moment in the opening half.
Ballinacurra battled hard throughout and kept themselves in contention, but Glenville responded well after the break. Second-half goals from Sean Callanan and Eoin Fitzgerald came at crucial stages to maintain the advantage and keep the hosts at bay.
Eoin Fitzgerald was particularly influential in attack, finishing the game with an impressive tally of 1-4.
Overall, this was a disciplined and determined display from Glenville, with strong teamwork and work rate across the pitch. A valuable win on the road and a performance that will give the group great confidence going forward.

U14 Football Championship – First Game, First Win
Glenville’s U14s made a winning start to their championship campaign with a well-earned victory over St Catherine’s in Ballynoe on Friday night.
Playing with the aid of a strong breeze in the opening half, Glenville settled quickly and made good use of the conditions to build up a solid advantage by the interval. Some fine teamwork and accurate finishing helped them into a deserved lead at the break.
The second half proved a much sterner test as St Catherine’s, now backed by the breeze, increased the intensity and made it a physical and competitive contest. However, Glenville showed great determination and composure under pressure, working hard throughout the pitch and defending resolutely to maintain their advantage.
Their efforts were rewarded at the final whistle as they ran out winners on a scoreline of 1–8 to 1–3.
This was an excellent introduction to championship football for the group, who will take plenty of confidence and valuable lessons from the performance.
Glenville would like to thank the parents for their continued support and encouragement on the night, which is greatly appreciated.
U12 Division 6 Football
Glenville’s U12 Division 6 side travelled to Nemo Rangers for their second game of the season on Sunday morning, played in excellent conditions.
Nemo proved the stronger side in the opening half and built up a decisive lead by the break. To their credit, the Glenville boys responded well after half-time and produced a much-improved performance, running in 2-2 and winning the second half.
While Nemo Rangers ran out winners on a scoreline of 6-7 to 2-2, there were plenty of positives to take for Glenville. This is a young team gaining valuable experience at this level, and their second-half display showed encouraging signs of development.
Well done to all involved.
U14 Division 4 Football
Glenville and Fermoy served up a real thriller in the U14 Division 4 Football League in Glenville on a beautiful evening for football.
Both sides contributed to a fantastic contest, full of teamwork, skill, effort and determination. While Glenville and Fermoy were both guilty of some wasteful shooting at times, the quality of the play, movement and work rate throughout could not be faulted.
It was a true end-to-end battle, with both teams enjoying good spells and showing great character right to the final whistle. In the end, honours were even as the game finished level on a scoreline of Glenville 3-8, Fermoy 3-8 — a fair result after a cracking encounter.
This was a great advertisement for underage football. Glenville would like to thank Fermoy for a sporting contest and the referee for his fair and efficient handling of the game. Well done to all the players and mentors involved.
U8 Football Blitz – St Michael’s

Fielding four teams, Glenville took on strong opposition from St Finbarr’s, Nemo Rangers, Glanmire, Douglas, St Vincent’s, St Nick’s and Castlelyons. Played in fine conditions, the blitz provided a great opportunity for all players to showcase their developing skills.
Across all games, the Glenville boys displayed excellent energy, teamwork and enthusiasm, with clear signs of improvement week on week. Their work rate and willingness to support each other was particularly encouraging and reflects the progress being made at training.
A big thank you to St Michael’s for hosting a very well organised blitz. Glenville would also like to thank all the parents for their support, especially with the early start, and to the mentors for their continued dedication and commitment to the group.
U15 P2 Football League – Glenville Fall Short Away to Youghal
Glenville 6-03 | Youghal 6-11
Glenville’s U15 side travelled to Youghal for their latest Division 2 league outing but came up short against a more determined and hardworking home team.
Glenville made a strong start and were quickly on the front foot, building an early lead of 1-02. However, a series of turnovers and some loose passing allowed Youghal to gain momentum. The home side punished these mistakes and struck for 3-05 before half-time to take control, leading 3-06 to 2-01 at the interval.
The second half proved difficult for Glenville as two early goals conceded made the task of mounting a comeback even more challenging. Despite this setback, the Glenville players showed great resilience and continued to battle throughout, adding further goals and never letting their heads drop.
While the result did not go their way, there were positives to take from the determination and spirit shown by the team. With plenty to work on in the coming weeks, this group will no doubt learn from the experience as they continue their development.
Glenville would like to thank Youghal for hosting and the referee for officiating.
