BRIDE ROVERS GAA CLUB NOTES.

WIN FOR CORK -NOW FOR SUNDAY!
The Cork hurlers got their Munster Campaign off to a mighty start in Thurles and will have no fear of Limerick ‘down the Park’ on Sunday next. We had two hurling games on Saturday- both away. The Seniors had a high-scoring draw whilst our third XV were pipped by a point. Cork under 20’s and Minors are motoring along with Cathal and Denis involved. All our Juvenile teams -from under 7 upwards are in action as the weather settles down and the evenings get longer.  It’s truly ‘all systems go’ I think last Saturday seven different Bride Rovers team took to the playing fields all across the County! Next Monday we have our second Centenary Meeting. The Lotto Jackpot is at €7,400.  Details of the Juvenile Club’s Tabe Quiz are out.  There’s a 6K walk/jog/run next Sunday in Bartlemy.

EAST CORK JHL Div 3. Our Junior B hurlers travelled to Ballinacurra on Saturday evening for their 4th round of the East Cork league. This is the first time in several years that ‘the Village’ are back as a hurling Club in the Imokilly Division -Ballinacurra Club was formed in 1925. This was a lively game from the start and Ballinacurra got the opening two scores of the game but a point from Craig and a goal from Darragh settled us into the game. We had the aid of a strong breeze for the first half, but we struggled to use this to build up any sort of a lead as Ballinacurra responded to each of our scores with a point of their own. A point from Jacob and two from Adam saw the score 1-4 to 6 after 20 minutes.
Ballinacurra got the next 1-1 and after playing with the wind we were trailing by three points approaching half time. In fairness the lads rallied well and points from Adam, Ben and Craig with Ballinacurra responding with one of their own saw the home side leading 1-8 to 1-7 at the break
Frank got his opening score at the start of the second half but Ballinacurra responded with two more points before a long-range effort from Frank deceived the keeper and ended up in the back of the net to give us a 2-8 to 1-10 lead. Ballinacurra got the next two scores again but three points, 2 from Adam and 1 from Ben saw into 2-11 to 1-12 lead at the 45th minute mark. Ballinacurra finished the game the stronger, two more points from Adam were not enough as the hosts out scored us by 5 points to 2 in the last 15 minutes to see them out winners on a scoreline of 1-17 to 2-13. In fairness 2 13 is a great score for a losing team but then Waterford scored 4 21 on Sunday last and still didn’t win!
Team & Scorers: S O’Flynn, N Kelleher, A Buckley, C O’Dowd, G O’Connell, J Mannix, J Buckley, B Knox (0-2), A Hayes (0-7), F O’Flynn (1-1), T Macak, S Dowling, C O’Callaghan (0-2), D O’Sullivan (1-0), J Powell (0-2) Subs; S Ahern, J O’Sullivan, J Kearney, M Liddane, B Hogan. Our next game in this league is Sunday May 17th when we travel to Pairc Ui Chinneide to play Killeagh.

UNDER 12 HURLING -Team 2
On Thursday evening our Second Under1 hurling  team commenced the hurling league where we were away to City side  Brian Dillons. We were up against a big physical team where we took time to settle. Once we found our rhythm we started to show our skills the lads got well into the match. The boys upped their work rate in the second half  with some nice points scored which won them the game. Final Score Brian Dillons 2-02 Bride Rovers 1-09. Team Captain on the day Odhran Hogan

RED FM CORK SHL Div 2.  A goal by Carrigaline in the last attack of the game denied Bride Rovers victory in this fourth round game of the RED FM sponsored Division 2 Hurling League. Played on a nice sunny evening last Saturday in Carrigaline, both teams served up an exciting game that was competitive from the first whistle.
Bride Rovers had Brian Roche available for 30 minutes as he continues his comeback from injury. The opening 10 minutes saw a lot of wasteful shooting by both teams before Carrigaline opened the scoring with a point. Cian Hogan struck a long range free to equalise and after Carrigaline regained the lead, Brian Roche struck a wonderful goal to put the Rovers in front. Carrigaline’s Brian Kelleher was unerring from free scoring 4 points before points from Brian Roche, Adam Walsh (free), Conleith Ryan and Cillian Tobin had the sides level at 1-06 to 0-09. The Rovers finished the half strong outscoring their opponents 0-4 to 0-1 with the Rovers points scored by Louie Roche, Adam Walsh, Conleith Ryan and Shane O Connor.
This put the Rovers up 1-10 to 0-10 at half time.
The second half was again competitive with the Rovers holding onto their lead. Points from Louie Roche (2), Cormac Barry, Adam Walsh and a long range effort from Conor Hazelwood kept us in front. However the sending off of Shane O Connor gave Carrigaline the advantage and with Brian Kelleher in scoring form they quickly took the lead. But the Rovers showed great fight and restored their advantage with a super point from Ryan Prendergast followed by more from Adam Walsh. As the game entered its final moments, we had a three point lead but one last attack from Carrigaline yielded them the equalising goal and the game finished all square, 1-21 a piece.
Team: C Hogan, R. Prendergast, C O Sullivan, K Cotter, C Hazelwood, C Tobin, S O’Connor, D. Barry, C. Barry, C. Ryan, B.Roche, P. O’Flynn, L. Roche, A. Walsh, R. O Connell. Subs used: J. Mannix, C. O’Riordan. Our next League game is against Newtownshandrum on Thursday week the 30th of April in Rathcormac at 7.30pm.

UNDER 7 FOOTBALL.  The Bride Rovers  under 7 boys enjoyed a football blitz in Delaneys GAA Grounds on Dublin Hill on the Northside last Saturday morning. We had three teams and played Erins Own , Glanmire, Douglas, Brian Dillons, and Whitechurch in a series of games. It was a great run-out for the lads who train each week. All players showed both the skills and their understanding of the basic rules (hand passing, four-step, etc.) which was great to see. They will next meet on Wednesday evening for hurling training.
Well done to Paul Radley, Donncha Carr, James Bermingham and Andy O'Regan for taking charge of the group on Saturday.

CORK TEAMS.  It’s all hands on deck now both at Club level and on the Inter County Scene. Stephen Benett scored 3 12 for the Decies and they lost! Clare scored 33 points -what’ll be the first big hurling game where we see 40 points scored? Will it become kinda boring? What about the art of defending? Anyhow as Cork prepare for another big game on Sunday the Cork footballers will be back on the road on Saturday. They travel to Thurles to take on Tipperary in the Munster semi final -one certainty there’ll be no 44,000 there!  Cathal Barry scored a point for Cork last week in their victory over Waterford in the Munster Minor (u 17) championship. Cork have lost to Tipp, beat Waterford so it all depends on the last two games in the Provincial campaign -both at home. On May 1st Cork meet Clare and Limerick will be the visitors a week later. Denis Fitzgerald lined out with the Under 20 Cork side in all their games.  These young Rebels lost to Tipp in their first game but have defeated Limerick and Waterford. They face Clare in Cork on next Wed night April 29th. Best wishes to all concerned
