Killeagh GAA Club Notes April 6th 2026

CLCG Cilliath, Nuacht an Chlub, Aibreán 06, 2026

Beannachtaí na Cásca oraibh go léir – Easter Greetings to all!

TRIPLE CONGRATULATIONS!

  • To our U20 Rebel triumvirate, Barry Walsh, Ben Walsh and Cormac Deane! After a tough loss away to Tipperary in Round 1, the young Rebels got back on the winning trail at home on Wednesday last against Limerick, with Barry top-scoring (2-09, some going) and Ben and Cormac both contributing well on the field of play. With no other club having three players on the panel of 24, we are punching well above our weight!
  • To Alex Fogarty, joint captain of the Cork Red (North and East) Celtic Challenge Team, who defeated Kilkenny in their opening fixture on Saturday last in The Mardyke. Alex played a starring role at centre back in a 0-12 to 0-09 victory. Another star for the future, no doubt!
  • To our Féile footballers who qualified for the semi-final to be played in MTU on Bank Holiday Easter Monday. On Easter Saturday in Páirc Uí Chinnéide, they beat Erins Own and Midleton to qualify. They will play against Mitchelstown in the semi-final with Bantry and Macroom playing in the opposite semi-final. Go n-eirí libh, a bhuachaillí! Many thanks to our club sponsor Niall Guerin for his generosity in helping to supply the all-important “Féile Kit” for the boys.

Ar aghaidh linn anois leis na torthaí agus na scéalta!

ROCA SPORTS EAST CORK DIVISION 2 HURLING LEAGUE, MONDAY MARCH 23rd in Killeagh                          Killeagh 2-13, Castlemartyr 3-18

Our second Division 2 hurling league match saw us host our neighbours Baile na Martra on the last Monday of OLD TIME 2026. An entertaining match saw us ahead by 1-07 to 0-08 at half time, having played with a slight wind. Ciaran O’Rourke was our goalscorer on 13 minutes, with four points from Dan Landers (two from play, two from frees), a brace from Dara Motherway, and one from Kieran Lane giving us our points tally. Castlemartyr scored the first of their three goals on 33 minutes to push ahead, and while Dara Motherway’s green flag on 39 minutes levelled matters, the final third saw a youthful and strong Castlemartyr finishing team outscore us by 2-08 to 0-06, with all our points bar one coming from Dan Landers frees. Given that all bar 6 of our panel of 19 had played either on Saturday against St. Finbarr’s or on Sunday against Ballinacurra, it was somewhat inevitable that the batteries would run out a little. Next up for this team is a home fixture against Midleton on Easter Monday at 1530 hrs. Bígí ann gan teip!

Team: Colm Crowley, Aidan Morrison, Conor Meade, Tadhg O’Connor, Barry Motherway, Brian Collins, Ben Budds, Dylan Coleman, David Kelleher, Jack Merkushev, Kieran Lane, Dan Landers, Darragh O’Connor, Dara Motherway, Ciaran O’Rourke, Diarmuid Buckley, Dale McMahon, Dermot Motherway, Dave Ogbebor.

ROCA SPORTS EAST CORK DIVISION 3 FOOTBALL LEAGUE, SATURDAY MARCH 28th in Killeagh                                   Glenbower Rovers 3-08, Russell Rovers 1-06

A second win in this campaign for our second football team sees us with five points in the table at the mid-way point. Michael O’Donovan got us off to a flier with a goal after 9 minutes, with Cian O’Riordan, Dale McMahon and James Fitzgerald adding points to give us a 1-03 to 0-05 lead at half time. James Fitz, not content with his point-per-game record so far, then added his own goal on 50 minutes to consolidate our lead, with a third goal from Ciaran O’Rourke in the final minutes giving us a comfortable 3-08 to 1-06 victory at the end. Kieran Lane, Ciaran O’Rourke, Eoin Brenner (2) and Eoin Roche were our second-half point scorers, ach ba é John Ogbebor ‘laoch na h-imeartha’ mar gheall ar an méid a rith sé timpeall na páirce. Maith sibh, gach éinne! Níl aon cluiche againn go dtí Aibreán 24, when we travel to unbeaten Bride Rovers for Babhta 5. We have one more home fixture against Aghada before finishing with two matches away to Carraig na bhFear agus Mainistir na Corann.

Team: Colm Crowley, Paul Keniry, Eoin Roche, Cullen Ryan Hyde, Brendan Keniry, Dave Ogbebor, Michael O’Donovan, John Ogbebor, Dylan Coleman, Dale McMahon, Kieran Lane, Dermot Motherway, Darragh O’Connor, Ciaran O’Rourke, Diarmuid Buckley, James Fitzgerald, Cian O’Riordan.

ROCA SPORTS EAST CORK DIVISION 2 FOOTBALL LEAGUE, MONDAY MARCH 30th in Killeagh                          Glenbower Rovers 0-13, Glenville 3-04

Our Division 2 football league campaign resumed on Monday last with the first game of NEW TIME 2026, which meant some of the fixture was played in daylight, on a fine evening. In our best performance so far, the match featured three green flags for Glenville and three orange flags for Glenbower – two from Evan Lane and one from Paudie Mackey. It also marked a welcome return to football for Sean Long, who manned the pivotal position at No. 6 in fine style. Ag deireadh an lae, chríochnaigh na fóirne ar chomhscór nuair a shéíd reiteoir Antaine Ó Riagáin a fheadóg dheireanach. Next up we host Ballinacurra on Sunday April 12th at 11.30 a.m., where a win is essential if we are to keep up our push for promotion to Division 1.

Team: Fionn Brennan, Pierce Geary, George Walsh Wallace, Padraig Leahy, Evan Lane, Sean Long, Ciaran Leahy, Rob Sinclair,  Brendan Delaney, Cian O’Riordan, Jamie Fogarty, Eoin Brenner, Paudie Mackey, Richie Long, Fionn Murphy, Eoin Roche, John Ogbebor.

RED FM DIVISION 1 HURLING LEAGUE, THURSDAY APRIL 2nd in KILLEAGH

Midleton 5-19, Killeagh 1-10

Zero from three now in Division 1 of the Red FM Hurling League, but in truth, Rounds 2 and 3 against county champions Sarsfields and runners-up Midleton were always going to be tough assignments. Unavailability of many players from the previous match was a factor also. With a packed injury-affected bench of watching-on players, and Gary Leahy lasting just five minutes before he joined their ranks, our depleted and inexperienced team battled hard but were outplayed from the time Midleton raised their first green flag on 8 minutes. It was 1-04 to 0-03 at the end of the first quarter (our points came from a Ryan McCarthy free, Andrew Leahy and Pa O’Brien), while Midleton had added a further 2-06 against our solitary point from a free by Ryan by the time referee Brian Sweeney blew for half-time. David Buckley, following great work from Fionn Brennan and John Ogbebor, scored our goal just after half-time, but Midleton were in no mood for charity, and they pulled away from there to the end, with our scoring limited to six placed balls from Ryan. Any positives? The return of Eoghan Keniry from his time in the southern hemisphere is very welcome, with Dylan McCarthy also near to returning to action, while our young teenagers Fionn, Jack and John, continue their learning at the highest level possible. Our next game sees us travel the short distance to Aghavine on Thursday week, April 16th. With both teams winless after three games, a victory would do wonders for confidence.

Team: Fionn Murphy, Keane Budds, George Walsh Wallace, Jamie Fogarty, Evan Lane, Gary Leahy, Sean Long, Mikey Fitzgerald, Ciaran Leahy, Ryan McCarthy, Pa O’Brien, Fionn Brennan, Colm Leahy, Andy Leahy, Dave Buckley, Jack Colema, John Ogbebor, Eoghan Keniry, Paudie Mackey, Dan Landers, Sean Walsh.

RED FM DIVISION 7 HURLING LEAGUE, SATURDAY APRIL 4th in Killeagh

Killeagh 0-21, Meelin 1-13

A very welcome win on Storm Dave Day, aka Easter Saturday, in gusty Páirc Uí Chinnéíde, as we welcomed our opponents Meelin from nearly as far away as the Artemis crew! It was obvious from the start that this would be the proverbial ‘game of two halves’, with our boys and Dave totally dominating the opening half. Meelin scored just four points i gcoinne na gaoithe (we only scored three in the second half) while we scored 18 points in the opening half. Fionn Brennan and Sean Walsh were in flying form on their respective wings, both clipping in with four points each from play, while between them Richie Long added five points, four from placed balls and one from play. The full forward line of Padraig Leahy, Dara Motherway and Paudie Mackey added four between them, with Paudie on target twice, while Jamie Fogarty also scored from long distance. A fourteen-point gap ag leath-am. Dave got angrier, but Richie Long made it fifteen before Meelin replied. Then a critical save from Philip “The Kingfishr Yank” on 34 minutes kept our goal intact before Meelin scored three in a row. Keane Budds, George Walsh Wallace, Cian O’Riordan and Jack Coleman were very involved throughout the second half, while Mikey Fitzgerald was outstanding i ngach áit ó thus go deireadh. Eventually our goal was breached on 50 minutes to leave us ahead by eight – 0-21 to 1-10. Would we hold on? Despite failing to score for the final ten minutes, our defence held out well to limit our visitors to just three points before Eoin Coleman’s final whistle. We’re off the mark! Next up we travel to Passage West on April 18th with a 1500 hrs throw in.

Team: Philip O’Neill, Keane Budds, Aidan Morrison, Oran Cunningham, Cian O’Riordan, Jack Coleman, George Walsh Wallace, Mikey Fitzgerald, Jamie Fogarty, Fionn Brennan, Richie Long, Sean Walsh, Padraig Leahy, Dara Motherway, Paudie Mackey, Dylan Coleman, Pierce Geary, Tadhg Considine, Aaron Fitzgibbon.

ROCA SPORTS EAST CORK DIVISION 4 HURLING LEAGUE, SATURDAY APRIL 4th in Ballynoe St. Catherine’s 1-13, Killeagh 1-13

Storm Dara hadn’t finished its impact by the time the committed Division 4 hurlers of St. Catherine’s and Killeagh took to the field on Saturday evening at 1800 hrs. If anything, the wind was even more ferocious than it had been in mid-afternoon. Credit to the players and mentors, and to the few hardy souls on the sideline, for braving the elements and serving up an entertaining game in the circumstances. Brian Murphy was making his first appearance of the season following his sojourn down south, while Lee Cooney marked his debut with Killeagh with a fine score early doors. Dale McMahon scored a brace in the first half but we trailed by 1-07 to 0-05 at half time. Padraic Carroll’s accuracy from frees was vital (four in total) while Harry Donegan had a point in each half. Our goal from Dave Ogbebor at the beginning of the second half reduced the margin and his two late points, along with one from Eamonn Byrne, ensured that the spoils were shared ag deireadh an chluiche. Could have been a win, but we’ll take the draw to preserve our unbeaten record after three rounds. Next up we travel to Midleton on Thursday April 16th at 1915 hrs.

Team: Colm Crowley, Ian Landers, Conor Meade, Cullen Ryan Hyde, Dylan Halligan, Dave Ogbebor, Brendan Kenory, Diarmuid Buckley, Paul Keniry, Eamonn Byrne, Padraic Carroll, Dale McMahon, Darragh O’Connor, Harry Donegan, Lee Cooney, Darragh Sheehan, Ciaran O’Rourke, Ben Budds, Colm Crowley.
