Junior A Football League – Division 2
Midleton 0‑08 | Ballinacurra 0‑06
Our Junior A footballers overcame Ballinacurra last Sunday in Round 3 of the Division 2 League in a hard‑fought and competitive encounter. Scores were difficult to come by in the first half, with both defences on top. Excellent defensive work from Midleton limited Ballinacurra’s scoring opportunities, despite several promising attacks. Josh Foley was solid in goal, while Alan Power at full back, corner backs Darragh Codd and Cian Crowley, along with Matt McSweeney, were all to the fore in defence. Points from Sean McSharry, Cormac Walsh and Nicky Coughlan helped Midleton edge into a narrow 0‑03 to 0‑02 lead at half‑time.Ballinacurra opened the second half strongly with a run of points, but Midleton responded superbly. Sean McSharry added three excellent scores, Cormac Walsh chipped in with two more – one a superb strike that proved the score of the game and brought the sides level – while Evan McGrath also found the target.
Midleton saw out the closing stages with composure to secure a deserved 0‑08 to 0‑06 victory at the final whistle.
Next Fixture: Midleton v Aghada Home Friday evening, 10th April
Junior C Football League – Division 3
Midleton 1‑10 | Aghada 2‑09
Our Junior C footballers travelled to Rostellan on Monday evening last to take on Aghada in their fourth outing of the Division 3 League. As with the ‘A’ panel the previous day, there was an excellent turnout, with twenty‑one players available. Aghada made the brighter start, but Midleton soon settled into the contest. Strong performances from Adrian O’Donovan in goal, backed up by Joey Moran, Eoin Ahern and Odhran Rabbitte in defence, provided a solid platform for the team. Scores from Odhran Dennigan, Mark Daly and Adam O’Connor kept Midleton in touch, before Brian O’Sullivan raised green with a well‑taken goal. This left just two points between the sides at half‑time.
The second half proved to be a very even affair, with both teams creating a number of scoring chances. A two‑pointer from Mark Daly, along with a point from Liam McSweeney and two well‑taken scores from substitute James O’Sullivan, kept Midleton within a score of Aghada as the game moved into the closing stages.
Despite a late push, Midleton were unable to find the decisive score, and Aghada held on for a narrow victory.
Final Score: Midleton 1‑10 Aghada 2‑09
Next Fixture: Midleton v Ballinacurra

Fé16 notes
We were back into games again recently after the winter break. We had two football matches on the weekend of 7/8th of March and our opening game in the P1 hurling league on St Patrick’s Day.
On Saturday the the 7th we travelled to St Finbarrs for the first game in the Div 4 football league. We lost the toss and had to play against a strong wind in the opening half. This along with our lack of football specific training we were opened up continually during the opening period and we went in a good bit behind at the short whistle. We had to change things up and call for a complete upping of the effort in the second half. While we were beaten by a good few scores in the end the second half performance was definitely much improved and will give everyone a bit of encouragement going forward.
On Sunday we made the long trek down to Clonakilty for our first game in the P2 League outing.. We were down to the bare 15 players but the lads preformed admirably. We went a couple of points behind early on and despite mighty efforts from the lads we couldn’t pull it back. We played some great football in patches and in fairness to the lads they stuck to the task throughout the match. We went down 1-13 10 in the end but we were trying hard for goals in the last 5 minutes when points were on . Despite the defeat plenty of positives to be found.
On St Patrick’s Day we faced Balllyhea/Milford in our opening match in the P1 league at home in Clonmult Memorial Patk.. Despite never meeting these opponents before from the first few minutes we knew we were in for a real battle. We played with a strong wind in the first half and despite this we were under pressure all over the field. We were lucky to go in at the short whistle slightly ahead. Our opponents really relished the challenge in the second half and continued to outperform us throughout. We ended up going down to a disappointing 2:16 to 1:24 loss. While experiments were tried out this really was a disappointing result and any similar performances going forward won’t put many points on the board.
We have a game for the second team on Tuesday the 31st of March in Division 4 football. Let’s hope the lads can build on the promising 2nd half the last day!!
Congrats to Harry, Cathal Sonny and all the Midleton u16 rugby team on a great if a little nerve racking performance in winning the Munster Cup. Well done lads.
Could we please ask the lads to keep up the numbers at training as much as possible. We are aware fellas have other sports/activities going on this time of year but a good Turnout at training makes it much more beneficial for everyone. A very special thanks must go to Martin McSweeney who took the lads on for the last few weeks in the gym for some really top notch S & C sessions . These were so beneficial to the lads and were carried out so well by Martin throughout.
Ladies Football
Best of luck to our Club player Abi and the Cork U14b squad who have qualified for the Munster final to take place on Saturday against Limerick.

Intermediate League 29/03/2026 Midleton v Rosscrbery
Wet conditions here in Clonmult for round 2 of the intermediate league where opposition today comes from west cork against Rosscarbery. Midleton get off to the perfect start with a goal by Faye Dunlea after 2 minutes from close range. Great defensive play by Sully sees a clearance to Claire o Brien who sends a great pass to Sadhbh who taps in for a second goal inside 7 minutes. What an incredible start for the hosts. Lucy Murphy who started well goes off with an injury after 9 minutes and gradually the visitors start to get going. Rosscarbery score their first after 8 minutes and add a 2nd point after 15 minutes. 2-0 to 2 points. It’s even here possession wise and the slippery conditions are not helping. A bad wide for Midleton on 20 minutes means there has been no score for home side in a long time. Rosscarbery attack and only a brave save by Aoise in goal stops a certain goal to keep us ahead. The Midleton defence line of Rachel, Megan and Lucy are holding steady and this allows our half backs Molly and Kate to drive forwards. Faye gets a lovely point after some great passing by Sully and Rachel Quirke to stretch the lead 2-1 to 2 points on 25 minutes. At this stage midfield pairing Lucy and Claire have the measure of their direct opponents. Rosscarbery score their 3rd on 28 minutes but a massive score by Lucy Wallace from distance on 29 minutes cancels that out almost immediately. Then Rosscarbery miss an easy free to narrow the gap and leaves the scoreline 2-2 to 3 points at half time. Second half gets underway and the Magpies are now playing against the strong breeze. Rosscarbery immediately get into their stride and score a sublime point. 2-2 to 4 points.
A wide by Molly on 4 minutes followed closely by another bad miss by Faye keeps the west cork outfit in the game early doors. Against this breeze we need to steady up and sharpen the shooting.
Sadhbh who is well in control of things alongside Viv and Faye misses a scoring chance on 6 minutes however after some great dispossession play, Lucy Wallace shoots and the parried save sees Faye tap in from close range. 3-2 to 4 points. A healthy breathing space! Better again when from the resulting kickout we gain possession and Faye rattles the net 4-2 to 4 and in a matter of seconds this game looks beyond the gallant visitors. Ross do respond on 8 minutes with another point to make it 4-2 to 5. Ross get a 14 yard free to make it 4-2 to 6 points on 11 minutes and maybe the comeback is on. Sadhbh hits one from distance which goes wide on 13 minutes
but redeems herself with a cracking point a minute later. 4-3 to 6 and thst comeback looks short lived now.
Lucy Wallace sends a great pass to Molly who blasts to the net 5-3 to 6. Despite Rosscarbery doing their utmost to get into it, our backs are very strong Rachel Ryan and Megan Kelly are producing some stalwart defending. With the game looking done and dusted management start to empty the bench which is great to see.
All one way traffic now and Faye bangs in her 4th goal from close range after a well worked move involving Denise and Viv. 5-3 to 6 points. Rachel quirke sends one over on 25 minutes 5-4 to 6 points. Rosscarbery get a consolation goal with seconds left to make the scoreline a bit more respectable, but it has been the home side that's impressed the most with superb displays all round, in particular from former Cork city FC star Faye Dunlea with 4 goals!! Final score at wet and windy Clonmult is 6-4 to 1-6. A big step up in performance from Fermoy last week and the impact from the subs bench was notable too so it’s onwards and upwards for the next game.
Upcoming fixture;
Junior League v Mourneabbey Thurs 02/4/2026 in Park South at 7pm.
