ROVERS GAA CLUB NOTES.

WINS FOR SENIOR AND JUNIOR B’s AS NEW TIME BECKONS.
Last weekend our Junior B team had an East Cork JHL win on Friday night under lights. On Sunday then the Seniors travelled to Fair Hill on the Northside of Cork City for their second game in the REDFM Co. SHL Div 2.  After a high-scoring contest we won by a point. Juvenile games will be coming thick and fast now that we will have New Time after this coming weekend. The Centenary Committee had their initial meeting on Monday night. Best of luck to all on tonight Thursday  March 26th when the Jan, Feb. and March monthly draws in the Rebels Bounty series for 2026 are held. The GAA community is mourning the loss of RTE’s Michael Lyster.

East Cork JHL Div 4.
Our Junior B hurlers welcomed Watergrasshill on Friday night to Pynes Field fa game under the lights.. We had a good turn out and a strong panel for this game and started the game brightly; two long range points from Adam Hynes and points from Adam Hayes, Seamus, Craig and another great long-range effort from Eldon had us leading 0  6 to 0  2 after 15 minutes.
Adam Hayes got a second point and then after some good teamwork Sean Dowlig burst through the Hill defence and he finished well to get the opening goal of the game to give us a 1-7 to 0  3 lead. Craig added two more points and a third long range effort from Hynes kept the score board ticking over. Sean and Hayes would both add another point each before half time where we enjoyed a 1-12 to 6-point lead.
Scores were harder come by in the second half, and the Hill had the opening two points to reduce the margin. Cillian got a point and when Ben got our second goal in the 45th minute we enjoyed a healthy lead of 2-13 to 8 points. Shane was required to pull off some good saves in the second half but the Hill eventually made the breakthrough in the 50th minute for their opening goal, a point soon after further reduced the margin but the lads responded well and further points from Ben, Sean, Seamus and Adam saw us run out winners on a final scoreline of 2-17 to 1-11 after a good team performance with a great work rate through the team and a very solid defensive performance by our backs.
Our next league fixture is currently scheduled for Sunday the 5th of April against Erins Own but this is likely to be changed to avoid a clash the National league final.

CENTENARY COMMITTEE. The Bride Rovers Club was founded in 1928 so 2028 will be our Centenary Year. A Club Executive discussion recently resulted in a Centenary Committee being set up. The Committee had their first meeting on Monday night last. A general discussion on how to celebrate our Centenary was initiated with a ‘brain-storming’ session.  Around 50 suggestions for events, publications, media coverage, exhibitions etc came forward. These will all be investigated before a Programme for the Year will be finalised. Even at this early stage we are putting out an appeal for old photographs and other memorabilia – yes we have a lot of pictures but perhaps in cupboards, drawers and old presses there may be more! Lately a picture of a hurling team taken between 1889 and 1900 has been found. We think it is a parish team but unfortunately have no names – if you recognise anyone in the photograph please contact any Club Member.

RED FM County SHL Div 2.
Our senior hurlers had to work hard to come away from Na Piarsaigh on Sunday last with 2 league points.
After a woeful start to the game in which we lost Ryan Prendergast and Denis Cashman to injuries and were down 0-07 to 0-01, the lads regrouped superbly to get back in the game. Paddy O’Flynn was on target for our first score, Adam Walsh added four more, two from frees before Cillian Tobin scored a long range point. Jack Mannix added the Rovers seventh point of the half to leave the half time score: Na Piarsaigh 0-09 Bride Rovers 0-07;
A good start to the second half saw the Rovers take control, points Adam Walsh, Ronan O’Connell & Conor Barry had the Rovers in front 0-12 to 0-10 but a goal for Na Piarsaigh in the 7th minute of the half had the home side back in front. Ronan got an equaliser before a brace from Cormac Barry restored our lead. Na Piarsaigh drew level with some pointed frees from Padraig Guest. However a strong finish, particularly from Adam Walsh who scored 3 frees and a point from play secured a great win by the smallest of margins.
Final score: Na Piarsaigh 1-15 Bride Rovers 0-19. Best wishes for a speedy recovery to the lads who got injured in the game.
A minute silence was observed by both teams in memory of Bride Rovers Club Vice President Tommy Barry who had passed away the previous week.
Next Fixture:
Next game in the SHL is against Kanturk in Rathcormac on Thursday 2nd April at 7pm.
 JUVENILE GAMES.
17th March - U14 Hurling Division 4B - Bride Rovers 11-4 Kilworth Araglen Óg 1-2 Bride Rovers’ Under 14 Team 2 made a superb start to their Division 4B campaign with a comprehensive win over Kilworth Araglen Óg in a game that proved largely one-sided, particularly after the break.
The opening half was more competitive, with Rovers building momentum early on. Aidan Carr set the tone with an excellent goal inside the first two minutes, while Darragh Feeney also made a strong impact, finishing the half with a goal and two well-taken points. Additional scores from Ryan Hogan and Sean O’Dowd ensured Rovers held a solid lead, though Kilworth Araglen Óg remained within touching distance at halftime.
The second half saw Rovers take complete control, producing a dominant display across the pitch. A flurry of goals followed, with Tiarnán Lyons and Jack O’Donovan both finding the net, while Liam Harrington struck twice in an impressive contribution off the bench. Darragh Feeney added his second goal of the game, and Eoghan Croke, who  finished with four goals.

Our first football league game will be an away fixture against St. Catherine’s. The group is progressing well, and we’re looking forward to the year ahead.

 21st March - U14 Football Division 4B – Bride Rovers 7-12 Carrigtwohill 3-0
Bride Rovers secured an emphatic victory over Carrigtwohill in what was truly a game of two halves. Despite dominating large spells of the opening half, Rovers found themselves trailing at the break, with Carrigtwohill capitalising on limited chances to net three goals against the run of play. Points from Ryan Hogan (2), Jack Gubbins, and Cian Barry, along with a well-taken goal from Sean O’Dowd, left the halftime score at 3-0 to 1-4 in Carrigtwohill’s favour. The second half, however, told a completely different story. Rovers came out with real intent, with Cian Barry raising a green flag early on. Jack Gubbins then hit a purple patch, adding a goal and a point inside the opening six minutes. Tiarnan Lyons made an immediate impact off the bench with a point, before Gubbins struck for his second goal. From there, Rovers took full control. Darragh Feeney produced a superb moment from centre-back, driving forward to score a goal, which sparked a dominant spell. Further goals followed from Cian Barry, Patrick O’Regan, and Eoghan Croke, while Barry and Lyons also chipped in with well-taken points to round off an excellent team performance.Team:
Joey Allen; Luke Fitzgerald, Liam Harrington (C), Ryan Field; Callum Dixon, Jack Barry, Conor Dorgan; Eoghan Croke (1-0), Ryan Hogan (0-2); Aidan Carr, Sean O’Dowd (1-1), Patrick O’Regan (1-0); Harry Fitzgerald, Jack Gubbins (1-3), Cian Barry (2-2), Harry Fitzpatrick, Darragh Feeney (1-0), Tiarnan Lyons (0-4)

MICHAEL LYSTER 1954-2026. There was sadness across the country last weekend when the announcement of the death of RTE Presenter Michael Lyster. Born in Waterford but living in Galway with many years Michael was an extremely popular and well-liked GAA Sports presenter on RTE Television. As host of The Sunday Game for over 30 years he brought a great new lively dimension to the presentation of GAA games on television. He retired from RTE in 2018. In recent years he had written beautiful articles in the weekly ‘Ireland’s Own’ magazine. Michael was the true ‘voice of the Summer’ on RTE . Sympathy is extended to his wife Anne and family.
