Five adult matches this week to report – here they are in chronological order.

ROCA SPORTS EAST CORK DIVISION 2 FOOTBALL LEAGUE, FRIDAY MARCH 13th in Killeagh

Glenbower Rovers 1-10, Midleton 2-07

Our second Division 2 football league match was an entertaining encounter, with reiteoir Jim Daly i lár na páirce on our well-manicured Clashdermot pitch. This game was partly a story of two penalties, one saved, one converted! A flying start saw us kick four points in the opening six minutes – two from Matthew Murphy, one each from Evan Lane and Brendan Delaney. Midleton replied with a free before Eoin Brenner restored our four point advantage. A Midleton goal on 15 minutes was cancelled out by a clever finish from Matthew Murphy on 20 minutes, with Paudie Mackey involved in the setting up. A Richie Long point was our final score of the half, at the end of which we held a s one-kick advantage – 1-06 to 1-04. Midleton had the better of the third quarter and had reduced the gap to one (1-08 to 1-07) when we were awarded a penalty. However, an excellent save from the Mainistir na Corann cúl báire kept the game close. Two pointed frees from Paudie Mackey on 54 and 55 minutes appeared to be enough to gain the win, but a late, late penalty converted by Midleton meant that the spoils were shared. Well done to both teams and to reiteoir Jim. We welcome Glenville – for a change – to Páirc Uí Chinnéide on Monday week, March 30th, for Babhta 3!

Team: Fionn Brennan, Barry Motherway, George Walsh Wallace, Pierse Geary, Evan Lane, Robbie Treacy, Jack Coleman, Brendan Delaney, John Ogbebor, Sean Walsh, Jamie Fogarty, Eoin Brenner, Paudie Mackey, Richie Long, Matthew Murphy, Eoin Roche, Michael O’Donovan, Kieran Lane.

ROCA SPORTS EAST CORK DIVISION 3 FOOTBALL LEAGUE, SUNDAY MARCH 15th in Ballinacurra                                 Ballinacurra 0-11, Glenbower Rovers 1-08

This was another entertaining game on another well-manicured pitch – Páirc na nGael  i mBaile na Corra, Dé Domhnaigh seo caite, le David Butler i lár na páirce. The first quarter was a slow burner – just one point each with Kieran Lane opening our account with a kicked free. Colm Leahy – unavailable to the Division 2 team on Friday evening due to 21st birthday celebration duties – then kicked his first of two points on his 21st birthday! There’s dedication! Dylan Coleman and James Fitzgerald (continuing his point-per-game ratio for the third game in succession) along with Colm’s second, gave us a 0-05 to 0-02 point advantage ag leath am. Ballinacurra scored twice in the opening three minutes to reduce the deficit before Ciaran O’Rourke opened his account and a Kieran Lane free restored our three point advantage. A great save from Colm Crowley at one end was quickly followed by an excellent finish from Ciaran at the other end – great work from Dylan Coleman and Dale McMahon in the build up – to give us a 1-07 to 0-06 lead. Ballinacurra chipped away at the lead, and while we were only able to add one further point – Dylan’s second – three points in the final five minutes gave Ballinacurra a share of the points ag an deireadh. One loss, one win, one draw so far from our three games, but great experience for our mix of young and not so! Next up we host Russell Rovers on Saturday 28th March at 4.30 p.m.

Team: Colm Crowley, Paul Keniry, Conor Meade, Dale McMahon, Conor Burns, Ben Budds, Eamonn Byrne, Colm Leahy, Dylan Coleman, Ian O’Keeffe, Kieran Lane, Diarmuid Buckley, James Fitzgerald, Ciaran O’Rourke, Darragh O’Connor, Darragh Sheehan, Harry Donegan, Cullen Ryan Hyde, Ian Landers, Segdae Barry.

RED FM DIVISION 7 HURLING LEAGUE, SATURDAY MARCH 21st in Togher

St. Finbarr’s 0-25, Killeagh 1-18

Our second Division 7 hurling league match, our second loss, but a much more positive and encouraging performance with a somewhat depleted team in Blues Land on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Pat Lyons was the man in black. Conor Burns cried off due to injury in the warm-up and was replaced by Dylan Coleman, who had an excellent game. Aidan Morrison and Dara Motherway impressed at opposite ends of the pitch, while our young troupe – Oran, Jack, Fionn and John continued their impressive beginnings to adult hurling, with John and Fionn both scoring a pair of second-half points each. Trailing by 0-8 to 0-13 at half time (three each from Dara and Richie Long, along with points from Dan Smiddy and Aaron Walsh), we had reduced the margin to three by 40 minutes when Aaron Walsh got our goal, with an assist from Barry Motherway. We were level again on 45 minutes (Barry with a fine point) and again on 47 minutes (Fionn’s second) and finally on 50 minutes after John’s second and Richie’s first from play, which left the teams level at 1-17 to 0-20. St. Finbarr’s did have the advantage of a big bench to empty, and they added five points in the closing ten minutes to claim victory, but this was a very promising effort from our squad. Next up we host (thankfully) Meelin on Easter Saturday, April 4th at 1500hrs. A win here – Meelin are also pointless after their opening two games - would be very welcome!

Team: Philip O’Neill, Barry Motherway, Aidan Morrison, Oran Cunningham, Padraig Leahy, Jack Coleman, Dylan Coleman, Pierce Geary, John Ogbebor, Fionn Brennan, Richie Long, Dan Smiddy, Aaron Walsh, Dara Motherway, Paudie Mackey, Colm Crowley.

RED FM DIVISION 1 HURLING LEAGUE, SUNDAY MARCH 22nd in Riverstown

Sarsfield 2-17, Killeagh 0-12

Our trip to county champions Sarsfields was always going to be a test; it was made more difficult by the unavailability of some first-choice players which necessitated the recruitment and subsequent unavailability of key players from Saturday’s Division 7 team. Andy Leahy opened our scoring on three minutes but Sarsfields then took over, leading by 1-05 to 0-02 after twenty minutes and by 1-13 to 0-03 at Pa O’Driscoll’s half-time whistle. A much improved second half performance saw us score 0-09 to Sars’ 1-06, their second goal coming after 35 minutes. John Ogbebor and Fionn Brennan both came off the bench to make their senior league debuts, and John scored a fine point, one of only four from play we scored over the hour. Andy Leahy contributed nine points – eight from placed balls – while Dave Buckley and Gary Leahy were our other scorers. Next up we welcome county finalists Midleton to Páirc Uí Chinnéide on Holy Thursday, April 2nd at 7.30 p.m. They don’t get any easier!

Team: Fionn Murphy, Keane Budds, George Walsh Wallace, Jamie Fogarty, Evan Lane, Gary Leahy, Cathal Fitzgibbon, Mikey Fitzgerald, Ciaran Leahy, Sean Walsh, Brendan Delaney, Shane Smiddy, Colm Leahy, Andy Leahy, Dave Buckley, John Ogbebor, Fionn Brennan, Paudie Mackey.

ROCA SPORTS EAST CORK DIVISION 4 HURLING LEAGUE, SUNDAY MARCH 22nd in Killeagh Killeagh 2-11, Ballinacurra 0-16

The best wine ‘till last! Our Division 4 team garnered our first hurling league win of 2026 in dramatic fashion in sun-kissed Páirc Uí Chinnéide on Sunday morning, with a late Dave Ogbebor goal snatching victory from a committed Ballinacurra outfit, who were making their return to hurling action in East Cork after some years away. Conor Fitzgerald at midfield for Ballinacurra was their stand-out performer. For Killeagh, we had excellent performances from Ian Landers, Cullen Ryan Hyde, Sean Lucey and Eamonn Byrne in defence, with Dave Ogbebor outstanding throughout and Padraic Carroll his usual accurate self from play and from placed balls. We trailed by 0-08 to 0-07 at half time, with Ballinacurra’s inaccuracy letting them down in front of the posts. Padraic’s fortuitous goal from a long-range free on 48 minutes levelled matters, although Ballinacurra led by two with time almost up. A great team move started with Colm Crowley at quarterback and through Sean Lucey in the centre of the field before Dave Ogbebor (kudos to the sharp sideline for a smart positional switch bringing Dave forward) ran at the heart of the Ballinacurra defence and scored a brilliant goal into the bottom left corner. Ballinacurra had two late chances to level the tie but were unable to do so before Ben Daly’s final blow. Well done to both teams for giving the supporters – Ballinacurra brought a large crowd with them – an entertaining morning. All for free as well!!

Team: Colm Crowley, Ian Landers, Conor Meade, Cullen Ryan Hyde, Eamonn Byrne, Ben Budds, Ian O’Keeffe, Dave Ogbebor, Shane Kearney, Diarmuid Buckley, Padraic Carroll, Paul Keniry, Darragh O’Connor, Dermot Motherway, Harry Donegan, Darragh Sheehan, Dale McMahon, Ciaran O’Rourke, Eoin Roche, Sean Lucey, Dylan Halligan.
