Glenville Capture East Cork U21A Football League Title

East Cork U21A Football League Final
Glenville 0-13 | Colmcille’s 1-8
Glenville were crowned East Cork U21A Football League champions after a determined second-half performance saw them overcome Colmcille’s in an entertaining final.
It was Colmcille’s who made the brighter start and a well-taken goal helped them edge ahead during a competitive opening half. Glenville battled hard but found scores difficult to come by early on and went in at the break trailing by three points, 1-4 to 0-4.
The second half proved to be a different story as Glenville raised their intensity and began to take control around the middle third. With the defence tightening up and the attack finding its rhythm, Glenville gradually worked their way back into the contest. A series of well-taken points saw them chip away at the deficit before moving ahead as the half progressed.
Jack Counihan was Glenville’s leading scorer on the night, finishing with an excellent tally of 0-8 from play. He was well supported in attack by Ciaran O’Leary, who contributed 0-2 from frees, while Liam Foley, Ciaran Linehan and Shayne Curtin each added a point as Glenville turned the game around to secure a deserved victory.
It was a strong all-round team display with the defence standing firm and the forwards making the most of their chances when the game was in the balance. Great credit is due to both players and management for their commitment and determination throughout the campaign as they claimed the East Cork U21A Football League title.
Scorers:
Jack Counihan 0-8
Ciaran O’Leary 0-2 (frees)
Liam Foley 0-1
Ciaran Linehan 0-1
Shayne Curtin 0-1
Congratulations to the Glenville players and management on a fantastic achievement.

Junior 2 Football League
Glenville 1-13 | Ballinacurra 2-6
Glenville’s Junior 2 footballers recorded a fine victory at home to Ballinacurra on a scoreline of 1-13 to 2-6 following a well-contested encounter.
The home side made a strong start and showed great work rate all over the field during the opening half. Glenville took their chances well in front of goal and went in at the break with a 1-7 to 1-4 advantage after a lively first period.
Ballinacurra responded strongly after the restart and pushed hard to get back into the contest, but Glenville remained composed and continued to add to their tally with some well-taken scores.
In the end, Glenville’s steady performance and determination throughout the game ensured they held their lead and secured a deserved victory on home soil.
It was a strong all-round team display and great credit is due to the players and management for their effort and commitment.

Rebel Óg U16 Premier 2 Football League
Glenville 5-13 | St. Nick’s 3-7
Well done to our U16 footballers who delivered an excellent performance to record a convincing win over St. Nick’s in the Rebel Óg Premier 2 Football League.
The Glenville lads played some great football throughout the game, working hard across the pitch and taking their chances well in front of goal to secure a deserved victory.
The draws for the U16 Premier 2 Football Championship were also made on Thursday night, with Glenville drawn in a tough group alongside Clonakilty, Carrigaline, Bandon and Mallow.
Well done again to the players and management on a strong performance.

AGHINAGH EDGE GLENVILLE IN DIVISION 6 LEAGUE CLASH
Glenville travelled to Aghinagh on Sunday morning for their latest outing in the McCarthy Insurance Group Division 6 Football League and produced a battling display in difficult conditions before eventually losing out on a scoreline of Aghinagh 0-16, Glenville 1-11.
The visitors made the better start to the contest and settled well despite the challenging weather. Glenville worked some good scores and a well-taken goal helped them build momentum during the opening period. Their efforts were rewarded at the break as they led by three points on a scoreline of 1-6 to 0-6.
Aghinagh came out strongly in the second half and began to chip away at the Glenville lead. The home side made effective use of the two-point rule, striking three two-pointers, which proved decisive in swinging the momentum of the game. They also added two points from play and two frees to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
Glenville continued to battle hard and remained in contention throughout, but the burst of scoring from the home side ultimately proved the difference as Aghinagh edged ahead in the closing stages.
Despite the defeat, Glenville can take positives from a committed performance away from home in testing conditions as they continue their Division 6 league campaign.

WATERGRASSHILL REACH U21 COUNTY FINAL
Watergrasshill booked their place in the U21 Ladies County Championship Final following an impressive victory over Grenagh on a blustery morning, running out winners on a scoreline of 3-6 to 1-7.
In what proved to be a thrilling contest from start to finish, both sides produced an entertaining and hard-fought game of football. Grenagh provided strong opposition throughout and kept the pressure on, particularly during the second half when they struck back-to-back scores to narrow the gap to just a single point.
However, Watergrasshill showed tremendous character when it mattered most. Despite being reduced to 13 players, the girls displayed remarkable grit and determination, digging deep and continuing to battle for every ball.
Their work rate and willingness to play for each other proved decisive as they managed to outscore Grenagh during that difficult period, swinging the momentum back in their favour and securing a deserved victory.
It was an outstanding team performance in difficult conditions, with every player contributing to a memorable win against a very good Grenagh side.
Watergrasshill now look forward to the County Final against Roscarberry

following a superb display of teamwork, resilience and never-say-die attitude.

€20,000 Rebels’ Bounty Win Highlights Value for Watergrasshill Glenville

There was significant excitement locally last year when a Watergrasshill Glenville member won the €20,000 top monthly prize in the Rebels’ Bounty draw.
The win underlined the potential of Cork GAA’s official fundraising initiative, which awards 30 prizes every month, including a €20,000 top prize and a €100,000 grand prize each December.
For Watergrasshill Glenville, participation in the draw provides important financial support across all sections of the club, from the youngest juvenile teams through to adult level.
Chairperson Peter Curtin said the local win demonstrated the value of the initiative.
“Last year’s €20,000 prize showed that Rebels’ Bounty is a genuine opportunity for our own members and supporters,” he said. At the same time, the funds raised through participation help us to continue developing coaching, facilities and opportunities for players across all age groups. It’s a scheme that benefits both the individual and the club.”
Supporters can enter at https://gaacork.ie/rebelsbounty/ and must select Watergrasshill Glenville when registering to ensure their contribution benefits the combined club.
As last year proved, big wins can happen close to home.
