U16 Premier 2 Football League
Glanmire 3-14
Glenville 4-08
Glenville’s U16 footballers began their Premier 2 Football League campaign with a competitive and entertaining clash against Glanmire in Glenville on Wednesday evening last.
After the heavy rain in recent weeks, it was a welcome relief to finally get a game played in good conditions. Glanmire proved to be a strong and organised side and it took Glenville a little time to settle into the contest. Despite some good passages of play, the home side trailed by four points at the interval.
The second half proved to be a lively affair with both sides trading scores. Glenville grew into the game as it progressed and played some excellent football, keeping the scoreboard ticking over and applying plenty of pressure on the visitors. Midway through the half Glanmire managed to establish a foothold, but Glenville responded well and continued to battle right to the final whistle.
Heading into the closing stages Glenville trailed by just three points and pushed hard in search of a levelling score, but time unfortunately ran out. It was a very good contest between two well-matched teams and a positive start to the league campaign.
Next up for Glenville is a home game against St. Nick’s.

Impressive Glenville U16s Too Strong for St. Nicks
Glenville’s Under 16 footballers produced an excellent display to record a convincing 5-13 to 3-7 victory over St. Nicks in their Premier 2 league clash on Sunday afternoon.
Played in beautiful conditions, it was the visitors who made the brighter start, racing into an early 0-4 to 0-1 lead. However, the Glenville side showed great composure and gradually worked their way back into the contest.
A strong spell before half-time saw Glenville hit their stride in attack, finding the net three times and building a 3-7 to 2-5 lead at the break.
Glenville continued that momentum after the restart, increasing the tempo immediately and adding 1-3 in the opening stages of the second half to stretch their advantage.
With confidence growing, the home side continued to dominate possession and territory, adding another 1-3 late on to seal a comprehensive 5-13 to 3-7 win.
It was an impressive all-round team performance from Glenville, who showed great character to recover from the early deficit and go on to record a deserved victory.
U16 Football League – Division 4A
Youghal 4-09
Glenville 1-06
Glenville’s U16 footballers made the trip to the seaside town of Youghal on Saturday morning for their latest Division 4A league outing.
Played in fine conditions, Glenville travelled with a strong panel of 20 players and produced a spirited performance against a physically strong Youghal side. Playing against the elements in the opening half, Glenville competed well and were unlucky to trail by just five points at the break, with the hosts leading 2-05 to 1-03.
Despite the challenging conditions, the Glenville lads battled hard throughout and kept the contest competitive for long spells in the second half. With a bit more luck in front of goal, the visitors could easily have raised a few more green flags on the day.
It was a valuable and worthwhile outing for the squad, with all 20 players seeing plenty of game time. The effort, enthusiasm and commitment shown by the players reflected the hard work being put in at training.
Well done to the players and management on a strong effort and an enjoyable morning’s football.

Glenville GAA Last Man Standing Update
After five rounds of the Glenville GAA National Football League Predictor Competition, the field has narrowed significantly, with just 63 participants still standing.
The competition began with a strong entry of 366 players in Week 1, but the unpredictable nature of the National Football League has steadily reduced the numbers each week.
Progress so far:
Week 1 – 366
Week 2 – 275
Week 3 – 202
Week 4 – 142
Week 5 – 63
With the next round of fixtures scheduled for the weekend of March 14th–15th, the pressure is mounting for those still in contention as the competition heads towards its final stages.
Best of luck to all remaining participants as they attempt to stay standing going into the final weekend of National Football League fixtures.

Superb Pitch Conditions in Glenville
Great credit is due to everyone involved in maintaining the Glenville GAA pitch, which is looking absolutely fantastic despite the recent spell of inclement weather.
A huge amount of work goes on behind the scenes to keep the grounds in such excellent condition, and it was great to see the surface looking so well under the lights this week.
Our players are extremely fortunate to have such a superb pitch to train and play on, and the club is very grateful to all those who dedicate their time and effort to keeping it in top-class shape.

€20,000 Rebels’ Bounty Win Highlights Value for Watergrasshill Glenville
There was significant excitement locally last year when a Watergrasshill Glenville member won the €20,000 top monthly prize in the Rebels’ Bounty draw.
The win underlined the potential of Cork GAA’s official fundraising initiative, which awards 30 prizes every month, including a €20,000 top prize and a €100,000 grand prize each December.
For Watergrasshill Glenville, participation in the draw provides important financial support across all sections of the club, from the youngest juvenile teams through to adult level.
Chairperson Peter Curtin said the local win demonstrated the value of the initiative.
“Last year’s €20,000 prize showed that Rebels’ Bounty is a genuine opportunity for our own members and supporters,” he said. At the same time, the funds raised through participation help us to continue developing coaching, facilities and opportunities for players across all age groups. It’s a scheme that benefits both the individual and the club.”
Supporters can enter at https://gaacork.ie/rebelsbounty/ and must select Watergrasshill Glenville when registering to ensure their contribution benefits the combined club.
As last year proved, big wins can happen close to home.

The initiative focuses on participation and enjoyment, encouraging children to play alongside their dads while developing skills, confidence and a love of the game. It has proven to be a fantastic way to strengthen bonds both on and off the pitch, while also building a strong sense of community within the club.
