Match Time ...Maybe
After a long break - it seems match time is finally coming nearer- (weather permitting of course). Things are only very slowly improving and hopefully at least some if not all of our forthcoming games will go ahead as planned. As you see from the fixture list earlier it's a busy start to the playing season, with our junior footballers having the honour of being the first team to take to a pitch this season.
Youghal - our scheduled visitors in Sunday's JFL1 tie lost their opening games 6-8 to 2-8 away to a strong Erin's Own team. Our game against Carraig na bhFear was postponed that weekend, so this weekend's listed match if it goes ahead, would be a first start for the new management team of Timmy McGann, Donagh McCarthy, Pat Walsh, John O'Flynn and Noel Curtin. We wish the team and selectors every success as they go out on the new season.
Next up for them will be an away game ein Lisgoold (2.30pm) on Sunday March 15th. AN UPDATE ON THE STATUS OF THIS WEEKEND'S FIXTURE WILL FOLLOW LATER THIS WEEK.
In between football weekends, we have a big hurling weekend as both our teams will have their first outings. It's a home start against Midleton in JHL2 for the juniors under the management of Cha O'Neill on Saturday week March 7th (3pm). The following day our intermediate team make their seasonal debut away to Tracton at Minane Bridge at 11.30am.
Both our hurling teams will be back in action two weeks later - the intermediates host Cloyne on Sunday 22nd at 11.30am whilst the juniors travel to Killeagh on the following evening for the 8pm start.
Finally, in terms of fixtures the long awaited search for a dry pitch might end for our Under 21 footballers as they are due to eventually engage Youghal at Club Arás on Thursday March 12th - 7.30pm. The winners of this tie will meet St Colman's on St Patrick's Day.
Membership Bundles
Thanks to those who have signed up so far for our membership bundles - we again greatly appreciate your support.
However, there is more work to be done and we appeal to all our members to play their part.. As per previous years there are gold, silver and bronze packages costing €40, €33.50 and €21 per month respectively for full club family membership.
The gold and silver packages include both the Rebels Bounty and the Community Lotto, whilst the bronze package includes the Rebels Bounty ticket.
Meeting Room
Despite the unfavourable weather, it's good to see considerable progress being made in recent times in the construction of our new meeting room area, which is now at the roofing stage.
Scór Quiz
Best of luck to our team in the adult Scór County Quiz which takes place this Thursday evening at Pairc Ui Chaoimh. Jim Mullins, Donal Enright, Brendan Cronin and Liam McCarthy will no doubt do us proud again, having only lost last year after several tie breaks to the Milstreet team, who went on to win the All Ireland Final.
Last Person Standing
Well, 77 are still standing after a few strange results at the weekend with Chelsea's draw and Villa's failure to win also costing a good few no doubt. It's getting more difficult with two series of games coming up inside the next week and options probably looking limited for many. The craic should be good. Best of luck to all still surviving.
Allianz Hurling League
The Allianz hurling league resumes for Cork on Sunday as they face an away game against Kilkenny. With changes likely, it is expected Ciarán will feature for the first time this season after injury. A win for the visitors would put them in a very strong place, with a League Final looking a strong possibility if the two points are brought back to Leeside.
