Glenville GAA Quiz Night & Raffle This Friday
Glenville GAA will host a Multimedia Quiz Night in Kades Kounty on Friday 27th February at 8.00pm, with all proceeds in aid of the Glenville GAA Juvenile Club.
This promises to be a fantastic night of fun and entertainment with a modern twist — no pens, no paper, just your phone to take part. Tables of four are €50, and organisers are encouraging members, supporters and friends of the club to get a team together and come along for what should be a very enjoyable evening.
A major attraction on the night will be a raffle packed with an impressive range of prizes. Top prize is a luxury escape to the five-star Lyrath Estate in Kilkenny. There are also cash prizes of €200 and €100, additional cash prizes, and €50 vouchers for Rathcormac Tyres, Tirlán Glenville, Centra Watergrasshill and Roca Sports.
Other generous prizes include bottles of wine and premium whiskeys (including Redbreast), a handcrafted coffee table, a Glenville/Watergrasshill GAA History Book, a lunch voucher for Murphys Rock, a four-week online coaching and nutrition plan, two maths grinds, a crafted clock and a club lotto yearly ticket.
True to Glenville character, the raffle also includes a few light-hearted prizes that are sure to create plenty of talk on the night — a bag of spuds, a bag of “Kerry” turf, five slices of ham, a large umbrella, a pair of wellies and an Ann Summers voucher kindly donated anonymously.
The club would like to sincerely thank all members, local businesses and friends of Glenville GAA who contributed prizes. The support has been outstanding.
All funds raised will go directly towards supporting the Juvenile Section. For the first time ever, Glenville now fields two teams at every grade from U12 right through to U18, along with two U21 teams and three adult teams. The club also has a vibrant and growing U6 to U11 section full of future stars.
These fundraising efforts help provide equipment, coaching, facilities and opportunities for every player in the club — from our youngest nursery members to our senior teams.
Raffle tickets will be available on the night, and anyone unable to attend but wishing to support can do so through the club’s online fundraising page.
Support the night. Support the raffle. Support the future of Glenville GAA.
Impressive League Win for Glenville
Glenville made an excellent start to their Junior Football League Division 2 campaign with a comprehensive 3-13 to 0-4 victory over Midleton in Glenville.
The home side were in control from early on and established a strong platform before the break, leading 1-8 to 0-1 at half time. Glenville combined disciplined defending with sharp attacking play, limiting Midleton’s opportunities while converting efficiently at the other end.
Further goals at key stages of the second half ensured there was no way back for the visitors, as Glenville maintained their intensity and work rate throughout.
It was a real team performance, with strong defensive organisation and clinical finishing proving the difference on the day.
A very encouraging start to the league campaign.
Glenville Fall to Russell Rovers in Division 3
Glenville’s third team were defeated by Russell Rovers on a 1-9 to 1-2 scoreline in their Junior Football League Division 3 encounter.
It was always going to be a difficult challenge, and while the result did not go Glenville’s way, the players showed great commitment and honesty throughout the contest. The work rate and effort were evident right to the final whistle.
These fixtures provide valuable experience and development opportunities for the panel, and there were positives to take despite the outcome.
The club also extends thanks to all who remained to support both Glenville teams over the course of the day.
Brave Display by Glenville U21C
Glenville’s U21C side bowed out after a narrow 4-8 to 2-10 defeat to Lisgoold in an entertaining and hard-fought contest.
Glenville led 2-6 to 2-4 at half-time following an impressive opening period, with the side showing real determination and attacking intent. The game remained closely contested throughout, but Lisgoold edged ahead in the closing stages to secure victory.
In their first year fielding a second U21 team, this group has more than proven its value. Competing against first teams from other clubs, they recorded one win and suffered two very narrow defeats — a testament to their quality, effort and resilience.
The attitude, commitment and work rate displayed over the past number of weeks has been excellent and is a credit to the players and the club.
Sincere thanks also to the management and mentors for their time and dedication. The work being done behind the scenes continues to strengthen underage football in Glenville.
Plenty to be proud of and plenty to build on for the future.
Inaugural Pat McHugh Imokilly Cup Final in Glenville
Glenville will host a historic occasion on Sunday 1st March when the McCarthy Insurance Group Division 6 Football League fixture between Glenville and Cobh will also serve as the Final of the inaugural Imokilly Football Cup, now named in honour of the late Pat McHugh.
Throw-in is at 11.30am in Glenville.
Pat McHugh was a great clubman who gave outstanding service to Glenville GAA as both a player and a selector. His contribution to the club over many years left a lasting legacy, and it is fitting that this new competition will carry his name. The McHugh family remain deeply involved in the club, with his sons continuing that tradition of commitment and service.
On the field, both sides come into the final in strong form. Glenville secured their place in the decider with an impressive 3-19 to 1-7 victory over Carrignavar in the semi-final, while Cobh edged Aghada by a single point, 1-15 to 1-14, in the other semi-final.
With silverware on the line and the added significance of honouring a respected club figure, a strong home support is encouraged for what promises to be a memorable occasion.
Also on Sunday, the Rebel Óg North Fe18 Division 1 Football League fixture between Glenville and St. Colmcilles will now throw in at 1.45pm in Glenville.
A significant day for the club, both on and off the field.
