Glenville ease into Imokilly Football Cup final

Glenville 3-19 Carrignavar 1-7
Glenville GAA booked their place in the final of the inaugural Imokilly Football Cup with a convincing victory over neighbours Carrignavar GAA on Saturday afternoon.
The semi-final was played on the impressive Midleton 4G surface, with Glenville producing a strong all-round performance to run out deserved winners on a scoreline of 3-19 to 1-7.
This new competition brings together the Imokilly clubs competing at county level — Glenville, Aghada GAA and Cobh GAA — along with the reigning East Cork Junior A Football Championship winners, Carrignavar. The second semi-final was played on Sunday, with Cobh emerging victorious to set up a final meeting with Glenville.
From a Glenville perspective, the outing proved particularly valuable as a number of new faces were introduced to adult football, with the panel making good use of the opportunity provided by this early-season competition.
It was also fitting that the cup is named in honour of the late Pat McHugh of Ballybrack, a proud Glenville and Watergrasshill stalwart who gave decades of unbroken service to the GAA and whose contribution to the game in the area is fondly remembered.

U21 UPDATE
Glenville GAA enjoyed a very positive afternoon as their U21 second team recorded a hard-earned victory over near neighbours Bride Rovers GAA in a lively and entertaining encounter.
Both sides traded scores throughout, with the contest finely balanced at various stages. A see-saw second half kept the large attendance engaged right to the final whistle, but Glenville showed great composure in the closing stages to edge the game on a final scoreline of 4-9 to 3-8.
The performance was particularly encouraging, with strong effort levels across the field and a good mix of experience and younger players stepping up when required. It was an excellent team display and a valuable result in what is shaping up to be a competitive group.
The U21 second team will now turn their attention to their final group outing, a home fixture against Lisgoold GAA, which takes place next Friday night.
Meanwhile, the Glenville U21 A side resume their campaign on Wednesday evening when they travel to face Aghada GAA in Round 2, as both panels continue a busy and encouraging start to the season.
