HURLERS PRE-SEASON. Bride Rovers senior hurlers completed their four-week preseason Hyrox training at DM strength and performance gym in Fermoy on Sunday last with a competitive Half Rox competition. Fourteen teams of two players took part in a series of events that Irelands Fittest Family would be envious of! It was a tough schedule which involved four 500m runs, Sled Push and Pull, Ski, Row, Burpees, Farmers Carry, Sandbag lunges and Wall Balls. Whew! Even writing about it is tough going! After a wonderful competitive performance by all players, Shane O Connor and Cillian Barry emerged as winners of the Bride Rovers Hyrox Challenge 2026. Second place went to Cillian O Sullivan and Oran Kielty and third place to Kieran Kearney and Kieran Cotter. The winners were presented with their specially commissioned trophies on the day. Special thanks to Deirdre Morrison and Rebecca Walsh from DM Strength and Performance Gym for guiding the players through this programme over the last month. Thanks also to Liam and Sean O Brien for sponsoring Protein Milk for the players. Hard to imagine that it’s only just twelve weeks since we won the County Final and now the 2026 season is up and running.
CALENDARS.
There has been a very positive reaction to the 2026 calendar - truly it’s a wonderful production. A very sincere ‘Thank You’ to everyone who has bought the Club Calendar for 2026 to date and also to the many businesses who took advertising on it. PAT BRODERICK RIP. For the last forty years the Broderick name has been synonymous with the Bride Rovers GAA Club and this week we were saddened at the death of Pat the head of a great family who have contributed so much to the Club and the parish. A native of Leamlara Pat and Mary came farming in Monanig in the early 1970’s. The family, following in Pat’s athletic tradition, all played with the Rovers and helped us to some brilliant victories over the years. Initially with the Juvenile Club and later the Adult Club Pat served as an Officer, Selector, mentor, ‘taxi’ advisor and friend to so many. Pat just loved the Club and took great pride in joy in the progress and development of both the teams and facilities over the years. Just a few months ago he was the proudest man outside the Chapel gate at Bartlemy Mass the morning after the Seniors won the County Final. Pat battled his illness bravely and leaves the parish and GAA Club grieving at his passing. We extend our deepest sympathy to Mary and the family. May Pat rest in peace.

GAA SUPPORTS CLUB OFFICERS. The GAA has launched an important new learning resource designed to further support Club Officers in their leadership roles and strengthen the governance standards that underpin every unit of the Association. The online module, titled GAA Governance Essentials, has been developed collaboratively by the Association’s Planning and Training, Audit and Risk, and Financial Management committees – and expertly designed by the GAA’s in-house eLearning team. It aims to give volunteer Club Executive members the knowledge and confidence they need to carry out their responsibilities effectively and in line with best practice. At less than an hour in duration and fully modular, the training allows volunteers to complete it at their own pace - ideal for busy Club Officers balancing work, family, and Club commitments. According to the GAA, the course provides a clear and practical grounding in the key areas that matter most at Club level, including:
- Principles of good governance. 2 Club structures and decision‑making 3 Roles and responsibilities of Club Officers. 4 Managing risks 5Administrative and compliance requirements and 6 Club planning
The initiative forms part of a wider drive to strengthen Club governance and ensure that volunteers are supported when taking on leadership roles. From autumn 2026, completion of the module is also expected to contribute to the scoring system used for GAA Club Development Grants, with designated Club Officers required to complete the training for their Club to receive the associated marks. The GAA believes this will not only help Clubs avoid unnecessary risks but also enhance decision‑making and protect the reputation of the GAA at every level. Speaking about the rationale for the new training, GAA Planning and Training Committee Chairperson, David Denieffe said the resource reflects the Association’s ongoing commitment to supporting volunteers: “Our Clubs rely on the dedication and good judgement of volunteers. This module has been designed to help them in their work and strengthen the structures that make our organisation what it is.” Club Officers can access the course directly via the GAA’s Learning Portal here: https://learning.gaa.ie/GovernanceEssentialsCourse
