Castlemartyr GAA News

Under 21 Football League

Castlemartyr have been bracketed with St Catherine's, Youghal and St Colman's in the new Under 21 football development league. Our first game was scheduled to be played over the past weekend but the heavy rain of the past seven days led to postponement of the match. A keen eye will be kept to the weather forecast over the next few days to see if our away game in Youghal the coming weekend gets the green light. The following weekend we are due to play away in Cloyne against St Colmans. As it stands the St Catherine's game has been put on the back burner.

This year sees eight new players join the Under 21 ranks from Under 16 level - we extend a special welcome to Colm Smiddy, Conor Leahy, Daniel Walsh, Jamie Crowley, Jamie Fielding, Luke Falahee, Luke Keane and Ryan Cremin. The management are delighted to have this group on board for the forthcoming football and hurling season.

Once the current football league is completed, under 21 action will not resume until September for the football championship, with hurling championship to follow in October.

League Games

Meantime, the opening games in the East Cork Division 1 Football Leagues are listed for Sunday February 15th and will continue with the second hour of action two weeks later. Our first game in the division 2 hurling league is on the weekend of March 7th/8th which will also see the Intermediate campaign get under way. Fundraiser

The players group once again encourages people to support their "Last Person Standing" Fundraiser. Remember it's just €10 euro to enter and pick your team for the opening weekend ahead of next Saturday's Premier League fixtures. (The way the results are going lately, it could be a bit of a lotto) But please take your chances as for a contribution of €10 - you could win €500, Contact David Lynch, Mike Cosgrove or Daragh Joyce for further information.

Wednesday Walking

Well, Wednesdays were supposed to be a walking night, just like the past few years, as the club has hosted a regular a get -together from 7pm to 8pm. However, following three successive postponements and with more rain also forecast for this Wednesday, we have decided to cancel this year's venture.

Juvenile Club

With the well documented changes in the Kiltha Og set up, a new structure has been set up at under age level and a new Castlemartyr Juvenile Club has been formed in the past few weeks. Thankfully, there are extremely dedicated people within the club who have taken on the task of forming the club with a new committee headed up by chairperson Barra O'Tuama. Tracey Swayne has been elected to the secretary's role, with Eoin Finn as treasurer, Caroline Flynn - Children's Officer, Shane Carroll - Registrar and Elaine Bowens as interim P.R.O. A coaching officer will also be appointed.
The club will cater for the age groups spanning from under 6 to under 11, with the existing arrangement remaining in place under the KIltha Og banner from Under 12 to minor level. We wish everyone involved the very best of luck in the months and years ahead.

Building Progress

Despite the inclement weather which has blighted the January calendar, progress continues to be made in the construction of our meeting room /kitchen area, which when complete will be a big plus for all strands of the club. Also in the immediate development plan is the new gym, which will be located next to the ball alley.

Camogie/LGFA Social

It’s that time of year again when people come together for a special night for the girls of Castlemartyr Camogie and LGFA. A night to celebrate and recognise the hard work each and every one of them has put in throughout the year. From the wins to the losses, every moment has mattered, and every effort deserves to be acknowledged. Sunday evening next at Garryvoe Hotel should be a special occasion, with plenty of reasons to be cheerful after the exploits of 2025.

Meanwhile, the ladies football group is thrilled to be selected as one of only twenty clubs nationwide to take part in the LGFA Gaelic for Teens Programme 2026 . This exciting programme focuses on keeping teenage girls involved in Gaelic games in a fun, supportive and inclusive way
