Midleton Notes (22nd Dec)
- Dec 22,2025
COUNTY U-21 AHC FINAL
MIDLETON 1-17 SHANDRUM 1-20 Dec 21st 2025
Our U-21 hurlers took on Shandrum on the Pairc Uí Chaoimh 3G on Sunday last bidding to make it back-to-back county final wins at this grade for the first time since 1989. The Newtownshandrum/Dromina men got off to a flyer of a start and led by 0-3 to no score after three minutes. But three points in four minutes from Davy Cremin, Mikey FInn and Peter Barrett had the sides level after eight minutes of play. By the end of the opening quarter it was Shandrum who led by 0-8 to 0-5, with our fourth and fifth points coming from a Mikey FInn ‘65 and Peter Barrett.
Our second quarter points were provided by Cian Stack, Evan McGrath and three placed balls by Mikey Finn which meant that we went in trailing at the half-time break by three points on a scoreline of 0-13 to 0-10. Shandrum increased their lead to four in the opening minute of the second-half but then we scored 1-4 on the bounce through points from Mikey Finn, Cathal Beausang, Davy Cremin and Darragh Egan and a goal from Peter Barrett to see us lead by 1-14 to 0-14 after ten second-half minutes. Shandrum struck for their only goal of the game on 47 minutes to put them back in the lead on a scoreline of 1-16 to 1-15. Unfortunately we only scored two points in the final quarter, one from play from Conor Morley and a ‘65 from Mikey Finn and when Mikey Finn’s late late ‘21 was saved our chance was gone and it wasn’t to be our day.
A big thank you to all the players and management who put in a huge effort over the last number of months and made it three East Cork titles in a row along the way.
Midleton scorers: Mikey Finn 0-7 (0-4 f, 0-3 65), Peter Barrett 1-2, Davy Cremin, Cathal Beausang 0-2 each, Darragh Egan, Evan McGrath, Cian Stack, Conor Morley 0-1 each.

Facilities
A very busy year is coming to an end , the operation of both facilities at Clonmult and Park South now depends on the support of so many people. Thanks to Denis Mc Sweeney for his role in overseeing great work done on a weekly basis in particular at Clonmult grass cutting, pitch lining, painting, cleaning and much more by George, Anto , Vincent, Sean, John, Dermot and Maurice.
At Clonmult we will see some welcome improvements over the coming months with the installation of an Electronic Scoreboard, new pitch fencing at the Railway and Supervalu ends and at the Mill Rd side and the introduction of a Robotic Mower for cutting the main and side pitches. We have also applied for Planning permission to redevelop the old dressing rooms and adjoining storage area’s , hopefully works on this will take place in the Spring.
Many thanks to Pat O Brien and Tracy Ryan for managing the Bar, thanks also to Pat for the great work he has done with the rental of our facilities on a weekly basis.
Our multi million project in Park South has seen remarkable progress in the past year, in particular the opening of our fantastic 3G floodlight pitch has been a “game changer”. We have been fortunate to host a variety of games and training throughout the year, the last few months have seen the facility in use on a daily and nightly basis when grass pitches have been unavailable.
In the coming year we hope to make further progress with the opening of the Sand based pitch and the next phase of our development which will involve walkways, pitch drainage, road sub surfacing and the Dressing room / Ball Wall building.
Thanks to John Fenton for overseeing the regular work in Park South and to Liam, Donie, Ciaren, Jim, Pat, Pa, Dave , Paul and others for all of their continued work and support.
Thanks to everyone who helped throughout the year in many different ways, stewarding at games, opening/closing up, cutting grass, traffic management, etc it is all very much appreciated. Finally thanks to all in the Facilities and the various other committees for all your commitment and cooperation, here’s hoping for another great year both on and off the pitch.
Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas and a Healthy New Year.
