Community Walk – In Memory of Richard Power
The annual Community Walk in memory of Richard “Richie” Power will take place on Wednesday, 27th December, starting from Glenville GAA pitch at 12 noon.
This walk, organised each year by Sheila, is held in memory of Richie, who was fondly known and greatly respected in the community. It has become a valued tradition in the Glenville and parish calendar, bringing people together to remember him while supporting a very worthy cause.
Taking place during the Christmas period, the walk offers a welcome opportunity for people who may be home for the holidays to meet up, reflect and spend time together. Despite the winter weather, there is always a strong turnout, reflecting the sense of community spirit and solidarity that Richie himself embodied.
The walk has grown into a meaningful and well-supported occasion within Glenville GAA and the wider parish, with families, neighbours and friends coming together in a shared act of remembrance and support. It is a fitting way to honour Richie’s memory while also contributing to a cause that provides vital care and comfort to so many.
All proceeds from the walk will go to Marymount, and everyone in the parish and surrounding areas is encouraged to come along, show their support and take part. Walkers of all ages are welcome, and every contribution, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated.
Well done to Sheila for continuing to organise this meaningful event each year, and sincere thanks to everyone who supports it and helps to ensure its continued place in the Glenville calendar.
Dads and Lads Blitz – Glenville GAA
Glenville GAA will host a Dads and Lads Blitz on Sunday, 28th December, running from 10.00am to 12 noon on the Astro pitch.
Teams from Glenville, Laochra Aéracha, Kildorrery and Russell Rovers will take part in what promises to be a lively and enjoyable morning of football, with a strong emphasis on participation, fun and community spirit.
The blitz will also serve as a fundraiser for Le Chèile Africa, a charitable organisation dedicated to improving health, education and quality of life in communities across Africa. The charity is run by Derry Desmond, a local man from Watergrasshill, who has strong and longstanding links with Glenville GAA.
Derry’s two sons, Andrew and Seán, have both played with distinction for Glenville over the years, adding a special local connection to the event and the chosen charity.
Supporters are encouraged to come along on the morning, enjoy the games and contribute to a very worthy cause. Further details on fundraising arrangements will be available on the day.
