Bride Rovers Notes (11th Dec)
- Dec 11,2025
BRIDE ROVERS GAA NOTES.
‘The Seasons They Go Round and Round’. Many years ago the great American singer Joni Mitchell had a big hit with a song titled ‘The Circle Game’ which saw life and everything about it as a circle ‘game’ that just keeps revolving. So it was and so it is- we are still basking in the wonderful afterglow of our third ever adult Cork County Championship- 1998,2003 and 2025 and already the 2026 season if fast approaching! Our Annual General meeting have been held and plans laid for next year. Arrangements for our Victory Social in February are at an advanced stage with Tickets now on sale. Last weekend work began on resodding the goalmouths in Pairc na Bride to make sure all will be in readiness for the 98th year since our Foundation. By the time you read this our Premier Senior Grouping for the 2026 Senior Championship will be known.
EXTRA; LATE LATE NEWS; Tuesday night at Co Convention the Group Draws for the 2026 SHC were made and we have Midleton, St Finbarrs and Newcestown- isn't it great to be up with the very best?
JUVENILE AGM. Continuing the various Age-Group 2025 Reports we start with Under 15 Hurling and Football. The u15s entered Féile and Under 15 Championship this year as we were joined with the u16s for the rest of the year. Football Féile was held on Easter Saturday in Aghada. We were paired with Glenville and Midleton and got off to a great start with a great win over Glenville after a serious battle! Midleton were up next and to be fair to the lads they put in a huge effort and were unlucky to lose by 2 points. Midleton got to the county final and were narrowly beaten. We hosted Hurling Féile in Rathcormac on the May Bank Holiday Monday. Sars and Shandrum were in our section. We played Sars in the first game but never really got going. We needed a win against Shandrum and the lads really gave it everything against the team who would go on to win out in Cork and lose the All-Ireland Final.
Hurling Championship
We entered Premier2 Championship and were drawn against Ballyhea. The lads got off to a fast start against Ballyhea and controlled the game, getting some excellent team scores. Up next were St Finbarr’s at home in Rathcormac. We had the wind in the first half but probably weren't up enough at half-time. The Barrs reeled us in and won by a few points.
Football Championship; In the football Championship we lost at East Div 1 semifinal stage away to Aghada having beaten Carrigtwohill under lights in Pynes previously. Thanks to the officers of the club for their help throughout the year. Thanks to Denis Ahern and his team for having the pitches in great condition. Thanks to the boys and their parents for their efforts over the year. Thanks to our coaches Damien Healy, Donncha Carr, Charlie Scanlan, Declan O`Donovan and Dermot O`Brien. (John Lynch)
Under16 - Hurling and Football
We had a panel of 39 players combining Under 15 and Under16 players and entered 2 teams for league and championship. Hurling- P2 and D4; Football- P2 and D4. We started back training in late January with leagues starting in late February. There was a 4 week gap in June to allow for the Junior Cert with the season finishing in mid October. In total there were 32 games played between both squads. Season overview:
Hurling P2- Competed well in the league and championship. Hurling D4- Won the D4 championship with a great win over St. Finbarrs in the final.Football P2- Won the league with a great win over Macroom in the final. Lost championship quarter final. Football D4- Lost the championship final v Carrigaline. This was a tough year with so many games being played and some players supporting multiple teams. Playing 2 teams gave each player plenty of game time while we were also able to play some D4 players in the P2 league to challenge them. Winning titles in both hurling and football was a great credit to all players as it showed the ability and consistency required for such a long season. We had 5 players playing with Cork Development squads in Cathal Barry, Finn O'Driscoll, Michael Walsh, Oliver Harris and Cody Scanlan. Two of our coaches are also involved with Cork Development Squads - Vincey Cronin and Riche Cahill. Congrats to Vincey in being appointed as a selector for the Cork Minor Footballers next year. Coaches: Brendan Walsh, Batt O'Connell, Jerome O'Driscoll, Richie Cahill, Vincey Cronin, Charlie Scanlan, John Lynch, Declan O'Donovan. (Jerome O’Driscoll)

We had 31 players that played both league and championship matches. There was 3 challenge games played as well. There were 50 training sessions including gym, football, and hurling. The management team was Joe Delaney, Mark O Connell, Pat Walsh, Alan Barry and Denis Ahern. Wewant to thank the club for the support and the facilities. Huge thanks to Brendan Lyons for his
communication expertise as well as Jerome for 1st aid support. We think the players and families enormously as we asked for a lot and received it. Although we achieved 4 finals, we feel that we under achieved. We felt that there were uncontrollable obstacles in our path that had an impact on games. I personally want to thank each mentor for their time, expertise and knowledge. We wish every panel member every success both on and off the field in their futures. (Joe Delaney).
BRIDE ROVERS CLUB GEAR. Cody was in the clubrooms on last Sun 7th Dec from 5pm - 7pm and was busy taking orders. Both jersies and hoodies are available in beautiful styles which are reasonably priced. Jerseys: Adult: €30, Kids: €25. Hoodies: Adult: €45, Kids: €35. A contribution from each sale goes directly to Bride Rovers GAA Club. For further detail contact Claire (Cody's PA) on 087 749 9140.
PITCH WORK. ‘Never a dull moment’ was surely a phrase meant to reflect every GAA Club’s ongoing work. Maintenance of facilities is vital and December and January are months when pitches ‘get a rest’ and allow some repair work to be done. Constant wear and tear of the goalmouths means they have to be resodded regularly -as someone said recently “Isn’t it mighty to see hundreds playing hurling and football?” and so work began last weekend to ensure all will be right for next year in our HQ, Pairc na Bride . Thanks to all who helped out.
