COUNTY U-21 AHC SEMI-FINAL DEC 6th 2005
MIDLETON 3-25 NEWCESTOWN 0-10
Our U-21 hurlers booked their place in the County Final for the second year in a row on Saturday when they had a good win over Carbery champions, Newcestown, on the 4G in Paric Uí Chaoimh.
The starting team saw one change from the quarter-final win over Ballincollig with Max Murphy coming in at corner-back in place of Sean McSharry who was unavailable due to sitting an exam in Limerick.
We came firing out of the blocks, despite playing against a strong breeze and points from Darragh Egan, Cathal Beausang and three frees on the trot from Mikey Finn saw us lead by 0-5 to 0-1 after nine minutes. Newcestown roared back into the game and by the 16th minute further points from Cathal Beausang and Matthew McSweeney saw us lead by 0-7 to 0-5. We won the second quarter 0-5 to 0-1, with our white flags being raised by Conor Morley, Davy Cremin (3) and Peter Barrett, to see us lead by 0-12 to 0-6 at the halfway stage. We really upped the ante after the resumption with Peter Barrett bagging the game’s opening goal inside 60 seconds of the restart, which was followed by points from Cian Stack (2), Eoghan Fraser and Mikey Finn to see us lead by 1-16 to 0-6
Peter Barrett’s second goal followed soon after as did points from Mikey Finn, Davy Cremin and Peter Barrett, before Conor Morley’s goal on 18 second-half minutes saw us comfortably into our second final in a row at this grade and one step closer to hopefully retaining our crown.
In the final, next Sunday at 2pm on the Pairc Uí Chaoimh 4G pitch, we will take on Shandrum (Newtownshandrum and Dromina) after they defeated Valley Rovers 0-20 to 0-18 in the other semi-final. The very best of luck to all involved.
Scorers for Midleton: Peter Barrett 2-2, Mikey Finn 0-7 (0-6 f, 0-1 ‘65), Conor Morley 1-1, Davy Cremin 0-4, Darragh Egan, Cian Stack, Cathal Beausang 0-2 each, Matthew McSweeney, Eoghan Fraser, Cian Lawton, Senan Carroll, Nicky Coughlan 0-1 each.

County Final Dec 4th 2025
Our replayed county final took place in Bishopstown on Thursday last. This was a replayed fixture due to the last match being abandoned with 15 minutes to go due to an opposition player being injured and an ambulance having to be called. Thankfully the Ballincollig lad made a full recovery.
We knew despite our 6 point lead at the time the last match was cut short we were in for a full on battle. Ballincollig started well and found scores easier to come by. We got a number of wides due to being under pressure and ended up going in at half time 1-10 to 5 points down. The lads to be fair put in a massive effort in the second half but Ballincollig knew that we needed goals and they kept us to just a well executed penalty. They kept the score board ticking along even though we cut their lead to 4 points midway in the second half we couldn’t crawl back the lead. The opposition learned a lot from the last game and took their second chance running out 1-18 to 1-9 victors.
Disappointed as the lads were they can hold their heads up high for the effort and skills they displayed not only in this game but throughout the year. Reaching 3 top grade finals and also the second team reaching their final shows that the lads are preforming at a high level and aren’t far away. Hopefully these setbacks will spur the whole group on to better things next year.
Thanks to all the parents, coaches, and in particular the lads for all the efforts in what turned out to be a long, up and down but enjoyable season. Thanks to the u14 players and management for their efforts and help during the year also. Hope to see the everybody at the juvenile social on Saturday next.
Thanks again to everyone and have a great Christmas.
