Juvenile GAA Camogie and Ladies Football Annual Social in Rochestown Park this weekend
Well it’s not the reenactment of the Gene Pitney classic ‘Twenty-four hours from Tulsa”! But just a day now to the staging of the Juvenile GAA, Camogie and Ladies Football Annual Social. You should be organised now. Just run a late check by Niamh O’Donovan, Margaret Fitzgerald or Niamh Pyne re ticket availability. See you in the Rochestown Park Hotel on Friday night.
Juvenile Annual General Meeting
Then just one week later we have the staging of the AGM of the Juvenile Club. That takes place in the main hall of Ballynoe community centre on Friday evening, November 14th at 8pm. Beware the AGM of the parent club will be in Conna hall on Saturday night, November 29th, now getting underway at 7.30pm.
Action from the field of play
Quarter-final McCarthy Insurances County Junior B Football Championship
St Catherines 2-06 Naomh Abán 0-13
It was known in the early part of the week by mutual agreement that it would be 3pm not 1pm as earlier revealed. Then late on Saturday night came even bigger news. We wouldn’t be going to Ballyanley, home grounds of Inniscarra GAA Club. This quarter-final of the County Junior B2 Football Championship relocated and played in Glenville on Sunday afternoon last.
What a start for the Saints. Two Diarmuid O’Connell points, both from play sixty seconds apart to five minutes. Naomh Abán from the western end of the Muskerry division and who wear blue jerseys with white shorts, registering their opening score a full five minutes later. Catherines were dominant throughout the pitch. Fuelled by some excellent fielding and catching from Rory Galving and Eoghan O’Riordan. Largely dominant through the midfield area. Eoghan O’Riordan charging through the middle releasing the ball before a timely O’Connell flick ended up in the net. No let up. Cian Leamy fouled. Before Oisin Fitzgerald goaled the resultant penalty kick. Making it 2-03 to 0-01 to the end of the opening quarter and while not as dominant from there on were still 2-04 to 0-03 to the good by the interval.
It seemed fully justified. Oisin Fitzgerald working hard extending the margin sixty seconds into the turnover. Later adding a pointed free. But the opposition were now much more of a threat. Indeed in fairness weren’t availing of many chances created, be it open play or from frees. They shot nine second half wides. Fourteen in all. A County Junior B Football Championship quarter-final gradually turning in shape. Shane Lynch picked out Aidan Keane for a smartly taken point. Dermot Kelly pointing a placed ball. But the contest turned on a duo of two pointers both kicked over by Liam Murphy from around the middle of the field, first from play then a placed ball five minutes apart to fifty-five minutes. Aforementioned Kelly saw parity restored for the first and only time. Pointing a free from the hands. Which had it at 2-06 to 0-12 on 60 minutes. When in a breakaway attack with the game very much in the melting pot up popped Kieran Lucey who left footed what proved the winning point in the second minute of injury time. They now advance to play Kiskeam (2) or confined champions Ballyphehane in a resultant semi-final. Pitches are still in good condition and if the weather holds up should be able to run off the competition fairly lively.
Scorers: O Fitzgerald (1-00 penalty) (0-03 frees) (1-04), D O’Connell (1-02). Naomh Abán scorers: L Murphy (0-02 frees) (0-04), C Murphy (0-02 frees) (0-03), D Kelly (0-03 frees), S Creed, A Keane and K Lucey (0-01 each).

With substantial cash prizes also going by way of Rathpeacon, Dromtarriffe and Cobh. Sadly no return to St Catherines this time around.
