MULCAHY STEEL EAST CORK U-21 AHC FINAL Nov 23rd 2025

MIDLETON 2-15 BRIDE ROVERS 0-17

Our U-21 A hurlers made it three East Cork hurling championship titles in a row on Sunday last in Aghavine with a hard fought victory over Bride Rovers.  After a close semi-final win over Carrigtwohill, we came up against the Rovers in a repeat of last year’s decider in front of a big crowd in perfect conditions for this time of year.

After winning the toss and opting to play against the strong breeze in the opening period, we got off to the perfect start with just 90 seconds on the clock when Conor Morley set up Peter Barrett for the game’s opening score, a green flag.

The Roves hit back and the sides were level twice in the opening quarter before the men from Rathcormac/Batlemy kicked on with the breeze in the second quarter and with four minutes to play in the opening period they led by 0-12 to 1-3.

But crucially for the Magpies, joint-captain, Davy Cremin struck for two lovely white flags in the dying stages of the opening half to cut the deficit to four at the interval, 0-13 to 1-6.

Points from Evan McGrath and Darragh Egan ensured a cracking start to the second-half for the men in Black and White and with Mikey Finn flying from frees and sidelines we hit seven of the next eight points to put us in the driving seat but the Rovers refused to go away and with the clock deep in stoppage time they had the gap down to a single point and extra-time was looking a distinct possibility when Senan Carroll struck for a game clinching goal.

Carthaigh Cronin intercepted a stray line ball before finding Mikey Finn and when his long delivery was touched down by Dara Scanlon, Senan Carroll burst onto it and had only one thing on his mind as he rattled the net to send the Magpie supporters wild.

A great finish to a great game. Well done to all the players and management and backroom teams on a great win.

Next up we begin the defence of our county title with a Quarter-Final clash with Ballincolling on the Paric Uí Chaoimh 4G pitch on this coming Saturday (November 29) at 1pm. It will be followed at 3pm by the other Quarter-Final between Glen Rovers and Valley Rovers.

Best of luck to all involved.
