Glenville GAA AGM Highlights Strong Year On and Off the Field
Glenville GAA held its Annual General Meeting on Sunday evening, with an excellent turnout and a positive review of a busy year for the club.
“A huge amount of work goes on behind the scenes, and we’re very lucky with the volunteers we have.”
— Chairperson Peter Curtin
Chairperson Peter Curtin opened the meeting by acknowledging the work of players, coaches and volunteers across all grades. The club fielded three adult teams, showing strong progress in league and championship, while notable success was also recorded at underage level with a Division 1 East Cork title for the minors and an U16 team reaching their Division 1 final.
Off the pitch, Glenville continued major development work, including a planning application for a significant clubhouse extension and ongoing improvements to the playing surface in partnership with Hourihane Sports Developments.
“Our facilities are improving year on year, and this will benefit the club for the next generation.”
— Development Committee Report
A special moment in the AGM came when the Chairperson led a heartfelt tribute to Brendan Duffy, who stepped aside after seven exceptional years as Club Secretary. Brendan was praised for his remarkable dedication, organisation, and calm, steady presence behind the scenes. Peter described him as “quietly efficient, dependable to the last minute, and someone who made life easier for every officer, coach and volunteer in the club.” The meeting gave Brendan a warm round of applause in recognition of his outstanding service.
He also welcomed Conor Mannion, who now steps into the role of Club Secretary for 2026.
A special thank-you was also extended to Tony Sheehan and the Sheehan family for their superb work running the club shop — often at short notice — and for their ongoing support across numerous club activities.
Community activity remained central to club life, with events such as the New Year’s 7s, Dads & Lads and Mothers & Others programmes, St. John’s celebrations, the two-day mini-camp and the establishment of a Rounders club all proving popular.
