Glenville Notes (10th Nov)

Street Leagues Finals – U13/14 Gaelic Football
There was a fantastic evening of football in Glenville as the U13/14 Street Leagues finals took place, with all teams showing tremendous skill and spirit despite the wet conditions.
In the Cup Final, Team 3 edged out Team 2 by a single point after a thrilling contest that kept spectators on their feet until the final whistle.
The Shield Final proved equally close, as Team 1 claimed victory over Team 4, also by the narrowest of margins – just one point separating the sides.
All four teams produced excellent football, with great effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship on display throughout. While the rain made conditions challenging, it certainly didn’t dampen the enthusiasm, and the energy from start to finish was outstanding.
Congratulations to the winners, Team 3 and Team 1, and well done to runners-up Team 2 and Team 4, who played their part in a memorable evening of football.
A sincere word of thanks to the coaches, referees, parents, and everyone who helped organise and support the Street Leagues this year. Your time and encouragement make all the difference to the players and to the continued success of our underage football in Glenville.
Glenville Dads & Lads – Friendly vs Kildorrery
The Glenville Dads & Lads footballers made the short trip to Kildorrery on Saturday evening for what proved to be another hugely enjoyable and competitive game of football under lights. Both sides served up a lively contest full of energy, skill, and good humour — everything that makes the Dads & Lads initiative such a success.
Glenville lined out with Johnny Barton between the posts, and he was in fine form, pulling off several excellent saves and keeping the defence well organised throughout. In front of him, the experienced backline of Declan Gleeson, Niall O’Connor, Timmy O’Callaghan and Derek O’Reilly were rock solid, breaking up attacks and showing great composure on the ball. Denis Buttimer produced a storming performance in midfield, covering every inch of the pitch and linking play superbly between defence and attack.
Up front, Michael Murphy, John O’Connor and Michael Dinan combined brilliantly, creating chances and taking scores with confidence. The teamwork, communication and effort from everyone in black and amber were a credit to the group — a real reflection of how much this team has come together in recent months.
What made the evening even better was the spirit in which the game was played. Every player gave their all, but always with a smile, a laugh and respect for their opponents. The atmosphere was relaxed, good-natured and full of camaraderie — exactly what Dads & Lads football is all about.
After the final whistle, both teams gathered for a chat and refreshments, rounding off a great evening of football and friendship. A sincere word of thanks to Kildorrery GAA for their warm hospitality, generosity and sportsmanship — it is always a pleasure to visit such welcoming hosts.
This week also marks four years since the Glenville Dads & Lads group first began, and it continues to go from strength to strength. The initiative has created lasting friendships and offers a fun, social way for men of all ages and fitness levels to get back playing football without the pressure of competition.
New members are always welcome. Anyone interested in joining can contact John on 085-7102290 or keep an eye on Glenville GAA’s social media channels for updates.
Re-Turn Bins – Please Empty All Liquids
A huge thank you to everyone who continues to support our Juvenile Section through the orange Re-Turn bins. This simple initiative has become an excellent fundraiser for the club and helps us greatly in supporting our underage teams and activities.
However, we need to address an issue that has occurred on more than one occasion. Recently, one of the Re-Turn bags was soaked in liquid, which spilled over a volunteer’s car and caused damage. Unfortunately, this is not the first time this has happened. Our volunteers give their time freely to help the club, and they should not have to deal with this kind of mess or expense.
From now on, we are asking everyone to take a moment to check every item before placing it in the orange bins:
Bottles and cans only – with the Re-Turn logo
Make sure they are completely empty before putting them in the bin
Replace caps where possible
Do not pour liquids or drinks into the bin or bag
No general rubbish or non-Re-Turn items
This fundraiser works brilliantly when everyone plays their part, but one careless act can undo a lot of good work. By taking a few extra seconds to empty your bottles and cans fully, you are showing respect for the people who volunteer their time and vehicles to collect them.
Let us all do our part to keep the Re-Turn bins clean, dry and safe to handle, so that we can continue to raise funds for our juvenile players and make this initiative a success for the entire club.

Rounders Comes to Glenville GAA
Glenville GAA is delighted to announce the formation of a new Rounders section within the club. Rounders, one of the GAA’s four official sports, is fast, fun, social and open to absolutely everyone.
The new section has already been set up and is now welcoming new members. Adult male, female and mixed teams are being formed, giving people of all backgrounds and abilities the chance to get involved. Whether you have played before or are completely new to the game, Rounders is easy to learn and great fun to play. One team bats, one team fields, and runs are scored by hitting the ball and making it around the bases – a little like baseball or softball, but quicker and lighter.
It’s the perfect way to stay active, meet new people and enjoy a relaxed, social atmosphere within the club.
No experience is needed – just enthusiasm and a willingness to take part. Anyone interested in joining can contact John on 085-7102290 for further details.
