EAST CORK U-21 AHC SEMI-FINAL
MIDLETON 1-22 CARRIGTWOHILL 1-20
Our U-21 A hurlers opened their championship account for the season on Sunday morning last in front of a big crowd at a sunny Caherlag against near neighbours Carrigtwohill, who came into the game on the back of a big win over Sarsfields in the quarter-finals.
There has been very little between these clubs at this grade in recent years and this was the case again on Sunday as Midleton needed two late Mikey Finn frees to book their place in a third East Cork Final in a row at this level. There was very little in it early on but then the Magpies struck for 1-4 without reply, the goal coming from Conor Morley, to lead 1-6 to 0-3 after the opening quarter. There was nothing between the teams in the second quarter and at the midway point it was the men in Black and White who led by five, 1-12 to 0-10.
Midleton, through a fourth from play from the impressive Darragh Egan in midfield, had Midleton seven up early in the second period and points from Cremin, Finn and Barrett had Midleton firmly in the driving seat as we led by nine with 11 minutes to go and few could have imagined the manic final 15 minutes or so that were about to unfold. Carrig struck back with six points on the bounce to leave just three between the teams with five minutes remaining before Mikey Finn made it a four point game heading for the end of normal time. In the first minute of time added on Carrigtwohill hit the net from a 21 yard free and the gap was down to just one. A minute later the sides were level at 1-20 each and it was all down to who could hold their nerve and eek out a precious win. Midleton held their nerve and David Cremin and Peter Barrett won vital frees that were both cooly slotted by Mikey Finn to seal a two point win. Midleton are now into the East Cork Final where they will meet either Erins Own or Bride Rovers who clash this Saturday in the other semi-final.
More details on the final in next week’s notes and on our social media when we have them.

Juvenile
Fe15
Another very busy week for the lads this week. We were out in 3 separate football competitions. First up we had a league semi final in Fe16 Division 5. We set off up to Douglas the hosts last Wednesday night in what must be termed as bonus territory in getting this far. We came up against a very strong outfit that completely outplayed us in the first half and the match was really over as a contest at the short whistle. At the break we really asked the lads to up the performance as it was well below par up to then. In fairness to the lads they did up the work rate, skill levels and determination on the resumption and the second half was a lot more of a contest. In the end though Douglas ended up comprehensive winners
Then on Saturday the one opponents we didn’t want to face were our opponents in the 1st round of the Fe15 Division 4 championship as we entertained Douglas in Park South on Saturday. With a strong wind that we had to face in the first half Douglas got a run of scores early on that took them away from us. Despite good performances from the lads Douglas were that bit stronger than us and again ran out comprehensively beating us.
On Monday evening our P2 lads played Erin’s Own in the quarter final of this year’s Championship. This was a wet and windy night in Park South so hard work and determination were to be the order of the night. With the wind in the first half we played some very good football and our conversion rate definitely improved since our last victory. We went in a bit ahead at half time but we knew that these opponents would come back at us big time with the elements. We did manage to curtail them in the second half and crucially not conceding any green flags while tacking on a few ourselves to run out deserved 4-8 to 9 point victors. Well done lads, on now to the semi final in a few weeks.
Thanks to all the lads for the great efforts for both teams. I know the second team football campaign ended disappointedly but we had loads of games and hopefully the lads enjoyed the year. Thanks to the u14s for contributing greatly over these busy weeks.
All systems go now as both our hurling teams out this week.
