MATCH REPORTS (JUVENILE)

Rebel Óg Division 1 Minor Hurling Championship County Final October 27th 2025, Killeagh 3-16, Blarney 0-08

Glory, Glory, Killeagh Minors!! At last, a reason to give a blast to Killeagh la la la la! Kildorrery was the novel venue for the County Division 1 Minor Hurling Final where Blarney were our Bank Holiday Monday afternoon opponents. By the way, well done to all in Kildorrery GAA for excellent stewarding and for all their work in promoting Gaelic games, with a beautiful newly-opened astroturf one of the notable features in their fine complex. Our top scorer Ben Geary was sidelined due to a hand injury so Billy Guerin got the nod to start, and what a day to remember for Billy! Anyway, coach / selector / manager Ger Geary has been sending fantastic reports our way about all the minor matches throughout 2025, so here’s his account of this very special day.

Kildorrery was the venue for the County Minor Division 1 Final on Monday 27th October. We started brightly with 2 pointed frees from Cormac before Blarney opened their account. This was followed by a goal from Cormac after a long shot eluded the Blarney keeper. Two minutes later Cormac blocked the keeper, and the ball broke to Billy who produced a superb finish from a tight angle for another goal. Blarney responded with 2 points before Cian struck the first of 3 monster frees in the first half. Andrew and Cormac Delaney finished two great team moves for two more points. Blarney hit a couple of frees before John Ogbebor hit a beauty from the wing to leave us 2-9 to 0-4 ahead at the break.

We started well in the second half. A great score from Alex Fogarty followed by another after a storming run from John Ogbebor left us 13 points up. Blarney came to life and hit the next 4 points before two excellent saves from Adam stemmed the tide. A superb run and pass from Cormac found Billy who finished expertly to the top corner. The lads drove on from here. A converted free from Cormac, two more from Alex Fogarty and a couple from Fionn Brennan saw us run out convincing winners by 3-16 to 0-8. It was a superb team performance by all the lads on the day. Adam and the entire defence of Tadgh, Oran, Rian, Cian, Jack and Cathal were outstanding. Our midfield of Alex and Andrew formed a great partnership throughout the season. Up front the lads worked so hard and used the ball superbly. This is a very dedicated group and their hard work in the gym and the field was rewarded. Joint captains Jack and Oran, who showed great leadership all season, accepted the cup on behalf of a jubilant team. We have one more match remaining, with a league final due against Ballinora to complete the season.

Team: Adam Barry, Tadgh Considine, Oran Cunningham (JC), Rian O’Connor, Cian O’Riordan (0-3f), Jack Coleman (JC), Cathal Brennan, Andrew Brenner (0-1), Alex Fogarty (0-3), John Ogbebor (0-2), Cormac Deane (1-4, 0-4f), Fionn Brennan (0-2), Cormac Delaney (0-1), John Farquhar, Billy Guerin (2-0), Tom Power, Jack Farquhar, Patrick Dineen, Alex Howey, Ronan O’Riordan, Dara McDonald, Ben Geary (injured).

This was the ultimate team performance where the loss of one of our star players was minimised by the 100% commitment of all on the panel to ensure that the cup was won! A just reward for the players and management (Ger, Colin, Brendan and Thomas) who have put in countless hours in training, planning and playing since the beginning of the year. Comhghairdeas gach éinne!

Rebel Óg East Division 2 Fé 16 Hurling Championship Shield Final October 19th 2025, Killeagh 3-10, Cobh 2-11

Congratulations also to our Under 16 hurlers who completed their season by winning the East Division 2 Hurling Shield, beating their hosts Cobh courtesy of a last-minute goal by Jay Geary. Despite missing some key players and playing away from home, our team showed great spirit to claim the victory, which concludes a successful U16 season where we reached two league finals and also won the East Division 2 football championship against the odds, defeating the combination team of Brian Dilons – Delaneys – St. Vincent’s in the final in September.
